I've been getting tattooed by Port City's newest artist, Kevin N., for over 10 years now. He's done two full sleeves/chest shields, two half-legs (knees down), and my full back. I had previous work done by other artists at other shops, and 99% of any previous work has now been covered up by Kevin. He can do everything, but my legs, sleeves, and chest are all full-color Japanese. My back is a full, black/grey photo-realistic, military tribute piece and there is nothing I would change or improve on any. His line work is some of the best I've seen and I'm going to be bummed when I'm all out of skin for him to work on. Read Less

I came here on a Sunday afternoon without an appointment but really wanted to get a tattoo. I came in to Port City and asked if they had anyone available and they looked at what i wanted and told me they could do it! I love how they have you check in. it's all electronic and they send you after care instructions right to your email. they set up the station and it was completely clean before they had me go back. Came in as a walk-in, I'm not sure who initially helped me out (he was really nice!) but Jesse did my tattoo. It's my first tattoo, something in honor of my grandma. He said it would take about 20 min, told me to let him know when I needed to take breaks, but it ended up only taking maybe 10 minutes max! He did a really great job. I was really nervous and I talked his ear off to distract myself. Sorry Jesse, thank you for being able to stay focused despite that! It really wasn't that painful-- it felt like a flu shot, but you just keep getting the flu shot again and again, haha. After it was done, I realized there was a weird thing in the design, where the knuckle in the hand kind of made it look like a 6th finger. He brought back the design and we confirmed it was just a knuckle, everything was ok. It's something you notice when you're nervous and overanalyze it. He reduced the price though considering I had a brief scare. 100% would recommend. The vibe is really calm in there, everyone's very professional and accommodating. First ink ever at Port City Tattoo!!Went into the shop a few months prior to look at samples of each artist's work. I ended up going with Frankie (Death Cloak) and scheduled my appointment 2 months out and dropped off my $100 deposit. Frankie was quick to answer any questions through e-mail we had regarding the design of our tattoo prior to our appointment. When the day finally came, I was antsy and nervous but it all went super well and Frankie made sure the first line he drew was tolerable before he went on. My piece was small and ink time only took 25-30 minutes but we were there for about an hour and 45 minutes for consultation/sketch/prep time. My husbands piece was a little more intricate/detailed and Frankie also did such a great job on it. He really took his time to make sure all the shading was perfect.$5 fee for credit card charges! Highly recommend! Anyone I hear looking for a tattoo, I always refer Port City.  Ive gotten work done by Erika in both this location and Long Beach. Staff is friendly and incredibly talented.  The website displays the various artists gallery, so you can get more of an idea of their work and those that fit your taste before you go.  The shop is also impeccable, and prices are def justifiable for the talent available.  I also liked the added bonus of shop help walking around checking in on the clients on the table.. asking if they needed water, etc.  personable service is a major plus. Absolutely worth the 2 hour drive to get here. Frankie was beyond cool, mellow, and a hell of an artist. Worked with me on a variation of his iconic all seeing eye motif, added in some cool techniques, and we were off. It came out better than what I had pictured in my mind. He rules. The shop itself is a super relaxing environment, from the music to the artwork adorned walls and ceiling. Everyone was really nice - even when I collapsed a table when I sat on it! This is where I got my first tattoo. I had to do this questionnaire thing, which just tells you what's going to happen and if there will be complications and the process of having and getting a tattoo. I read it carefully,and signed it. Note: they have a 5 dollar surcharge. My tattoo artist was name Jesse. I told him what I wanted. Showed him pictures. He did a very good job. It literally only took like 30 minutes. Overall, it was a good first time experience getting a tattoo. Pretty painful, but I had my bf hold my hand the whole entire time to help me get through, which helped a lot..."Thanks babe!" But anyways, service was great. The tattoo place had so much beautiful art work displayed everywhere. Inside was very bright, very open and clean. Music was poppin, as my bf would say, lol. My old tattoo parlor shut down, so I needed to find a new parlor for my third tattoo. My friend recommended Port City Tattoo in Costa Mesa. Even though it was a bit of a drive from my house, I thought I'd give it a go.I walked in at 11:00am on a Friday and there were no other customers. I was greeted at the front desk by Buzzy. He told me they were just getting set up, but gave me a price on the tattoo I wanted. I thought the $200.00 asking price was high for a 4.0 x 2.5 tattoo in black only..I agreed to pay the full amount though.I didn't have to wait long for Buzzy to call me in. He was very professional and made me feel relaxed. He knew what he was doing and did a phenomenal job! After he was finished, he took a photo of my new tattoo so I could send it to my friend. Very happy with my wave tattoo made by Jesse!This was my first tattoo so I was pretty nervous as first but Jesse was great with making me feel comfortable and very understanding with how I wanted my tattoo! Tim McAlary I am SO incredibly stoked on my tattoo!!!My best buddy ever of 13 years, Einstein, passed away a couple weeks ago and I received his ashes and paw print today. I decided, rather than cry all day, I'd go get his paw & name tattooed on my forearm. I went in with a not-so-great picture of his paw, the clay print from after euthanasia, and his dog tag. I had an idea in my head on what I wanted it to look like (I didn't want the typical paw print), and tried to explain the best I could that I want my Einstein's paw print, uniqueness.Tim 150% nailed it! He even put Einstein's name in the exact same font from his dog tag. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! It is SO perfect and makes me SO happy!Sharing a picture of the tattoo right after completion and the photo I brought in. The color will lighten up in about 5 days and look like Einstein's hair color.I can't express in words how absolutely stoked I am with Tim's ability to turn Einstein's paw into this beautiful piece of art!!! Tim took the time to answer my questions about my existing tattoos, so I appreciate that.He did have a client and I was a walk in, so I was inked by someone else.After he finished doing an OK job on my arm, and before even bandaging me, walk-ins customers came.  He left me standing there, blood coming out of my arm, and proceeded with answering their questions with detailed answers. I thought that was very rude!!I was left standing there, with tattoo exposed and blood all over, for a few minutes.Not too impressed!People here say "very cool and friendly people," I failed to feel that while over there.Ok-good job!Will do the rest of my tattoos somewhere else.*** UPDATE***Less than a couple of months later, tattoo looks bad.  My advice to people who want to use this shop, go with the more experienced ones.  Don't rush it.  I did mine with a guy that worked as a tattoo artist for only two years... but I thought to myself, he's working at a good place, I'm sure he's good or else, he wouldn't be there.  Big mistake on my part.  Check their portfolio and make an appointment. My girls and I do "inner circle" tattoo weekends every so often, where we go together to get whatever tattoos speak to each of us at that moment in our lives. It's a very solidifying, reaffirming, empowering experience to do with the people closest to you. This year, we decided on Port City Tattoo for 6 of us to get tattoos, including one girl's first ever tattoos. We all booked in with Jesse, who was patient, friendly, and professional. We came in at 11am and left at 5pm with 2 tattoos each on 2 girls, and 3 on another three. I came back 2 days after and got 2 more tattoos with  my other friend who also got 2. That took only an hour. Jesse is fast and has a steady hand. He is happy to place and replace tattoos to make sure you're happy and that they look right. He walked our newbie tattoo girl through the process and made sure she felt comfortable. Port City is a great shop, and they have lots of talented artists. Was referred here by a coworker after searching around a few local shops and not being satisfied with what I was finding. Especially with this being my first tattoo. But after being told about Port City Tattoo I decided to stop by and that's where I met Carlos (Los). Los was super friendly and very open minded to what I wanted done which was a geometric solar system. I felt very comfortable and welcomed and knew this was the place to get my tattoo done. Since the arch of the crescent moon is hard to get right/neat, we spent a good month looking for the right place and person. We saw the reviews and pictures on Yelp for Port City (specifically of Jesse's work) and decided to see if they took walk-ins. They did and luckily, Jesse was available for us. I love my new tattoo!! I recently decided to make my dreams come true and commit to a half sleeve. The original artist I visited had more of a traditional technique which wasn't what i had envisioned. We got just the outline down in our first session because I could not make it through a minute more of his heavy handed work. I decided to look for a new artist to save my tattoo from going a traditional direction. And then I found Buzzy!! He's talented and he can tattoo whatever you put in front of him. Woo! So happy with my dainty tattoo from here! Excellent customer service, clean, and a great overall experience.Context: I wanted this super small, dainty tattoo in my inner wrist/mid forearm (My knowledge of anatomy is horrific, sigh). I looked through their Yelp and saw a lot of good reviews and decided to do a walk-in on a Tuesday around 7 pm.Pre-tattoo:- Called them to make sure they take walk-ins, which they did.During visit:- Walked in, showed them what I wanted and signed a release form on their computer. Someone helped me at the front desk and relayed the message to my artist, Stacey, and she was super patient with me even though my design was hella small. - Stacey positioned my tattoo many times, was super clean about the whole process, and made the whole experience comfortable. I barely felt any pain as she was talking the entire time. I also had to talk to someone on the phone before and she was patient and waited while I finished up my conversation- Stacey went over the whole after care process and they send you an email about it as well.- I'm obsessed with my tattoo! I had a GREAT time here getting my tattoo!! I'd been following Stacey on insta for a while and finally decided to get my tattoo done. First tattoo, ever. Researched very extensively before committing, as this is a lifelong commitment.Stopped by just to get a quote, ended up just doing it on the spot.  I got the piece done by Buzzy Jenkins.  I initially came across his instagram and saw his work, loved it, but instantly thought, "there's no way I can afford this," and moved on with my research.Buzzy ended up being the one to help me out, he gave me a very reasonable price.  He was very nice and very accommodating.  Had me go eat first as he worked on my stencil, I had him do a mock up of a winking eye and both eyes open. I was being pretty pick about little lines and shades here and there, but he assured me it was fine and made me feel comfortable and kept reminding me, "you're the one that's wearing it, you tell me."Finished in about three hours, he was very clear with after care instructions and answered all my questions, I had a lot as it was my first time, and said to email him if I had anymore questions.I'm already planning on coming back in a few weeks for another piece.  Would I recommend this to a friend?Yes I would. After wanting a tattoo from Marc Nava for years now, I finally got the chance to go to Costa Mesa from New Mexico to become a collector of one of his pieces. I couldn't be more happy with the work he did, he was so nice and humble, he executed the design with not much direction from me. I just wanted him to do something he would enjoy doing because I trust his artistic skills and as I expected.... He drew out absolute perfection! Tattooed it to perfection as well! I LOVE my tattoo and I get so many compliments. He was so comforting while I was in pain and helped me get through it till the end (I'm a wimp)...... Decided to get a tattoo spontaneously between classes. They open at 11am vs the usual noon opening time so that was super convenient. I called and asked if they did walk ins and they said it was first come first serve. So I headed over and immediately got helped. Everyone was very professional, polite, and kind. I was a tattoo virgin until I met Erika. As a first timer most people have a small piece done. Not me. Its my entire upper arm. So we did 2.5 hours first day and decided to stop let it heal and come back in 2 weeks and finish it up so I have a good experience. I was a walk in and wanted a really large piece. They were so kind to me, so accommodating. Marc squeezed me into his schedule for a 4 hour sitting that day. These people are the best of the best, and they couldn't be more humble and kind in the process. The shop is super clean and bright.
