This is probably the best tattoo shop I've been to. I came here while on vacation, based off such great reviews. I wanted a chest tattoo, that was pretty detailed. I came in and right away was greeted. The shop is also very clean. Justin made the time to see me just about 15 minutes later. Not only did he listen to what I wanted but executed it perfectly. Then made time for me two days later for a half sleeve on short notice and again very detailed. extremely disappointed by the studio. I called early asking if I could come in and get my tattoo since i live 30 minutes away and they said they would definitely be able to do it and i even mentioned i would be there in 30 minutes and they said that was no problem. I immediately got in my car and arrived after driving 30 minutes and when i got there there was no one getting tattoo'd and there were three artists there. i asked if i could get my tattoo (note it wasn't a large tattoo it was just on my bicept) and they said they were closing early to go home and watch game of thrones. i am very disappointed after they didn't mention in the phone they were closing early and they told me they were definitely able to get me in today. so after driving 30 minutes there and them saying no just to watch game of thrones i'm very disappointed. Today I got my very first tattoo at Gold Rush, and I could not be happier with my experience. After reading all the positive reviews on Yelp, I decided to go with Brynne. I'm SO glad I did - she was very friendly, easy to talk to, and accommodating with my wanting to make color changes to the original design. She put me at ease immediately when I was nervous, and boy did she work fast!! With this being my first tattoo, I wasn't really sure how long it would take (I thought maybe 2 hours because of the detail, color, etc.); Brynne finished in 45 minutes! I originally wanted to check this place out because of their 5 star rating. I messaged them and they gave me as much info as they could but suggested I come by and meet them so I could show them more the style I wanted. Eventually I did come in and Marc's work stood out to me so we talked about what I wanted, I left a deposit and made a date for the following week. I was really impressed with his attitude- he took my ideas seriously and did not treat me like some dumb blond mom who was asking for a unicorn on top of a rainbow. Tattoo took about 2 hours, came out so much more detailed than I had imagined, and really wasn't that painful. This was my first. A really fun and friendly shop, great atmosphere. Marc Jackson literally is the man and is beyond talented. He has done every tattoo I have, including covering up some lame tattoos I had before going to him. I LOVE all of the work he has done. Not at all impressed with this shop. I'm a local girl and was excited to go to a local shop. I wanted something intricate and delicate looking. Like a flower bouquet. when I walk when I was trying to explain to the guy he was showing the stuff that was very old school thick lines and not intricate at all so he referred me to a lady. After the introduction she said okay let me go draw something and didn't really even listen to what I was looking for and walked off without introducing herself. Then while I was waiting all the artists we're in a room just ajar to the salon and we're using explicit language and being really loud and it just seemed very unprofessional. I've been wanting to get another tattoo for a while so a few years ago I spent a lot of time researching the best shop and artist in OC. Gold Rush Tattoo and Joel were at the top of my list. At the time I unable to get a tattoo for personal reasons. A few years later I did extensive research again and came to the same conclusion. I finally got my tattoo at Gold Rush Tattoo with Joel and I LOVE IT!The staff at the shop is very friendly and knowledgeable. It was easy to make an appointment and they answered all of my questions. Joel is the best tattoo artist I've come across. He has many years of experience and knows his craft. He loves what he does. My tattoo took about five to six hours and I was watching him work the entire time. This was my first color tattoo and I was fascinated about the process and color application. My tattoo healed really well and it's amazing. I won't go to any other artist and I've already recommended Joel to my family and friends. I constantly get compliments on my tattoo; and even people who don't like any tattoos said that it's beautiful. I can't wait to get another tattoo done by Joel. Had a fantastic date night going in to do the get what you get for $100. My husbands 1st spin was a winner. He got a sweet looking scorpion. My 1st spin I got a cool Bert Grimm sun but it didn't quite match my other tattoos so I wanted to try my luck on a 2nd spin. They were super cool about it and I didn't feel any pressure to get something permanent that I wasn't 100% on. Nick tattooed my husband and One Lung Justin tattooed myself. They were both friendly, professional and took a lot of pride in their work. They did not rush through and treated this the same as they would have with any other tattoo. I debated writing this negative review for over a year now because I really don't like to criticize artists. I'm fairly certain I went to Lindsey. At the time it was whoever was sitting in the 2nd chair from the front. That article was a girl and she looked like she was doing amazing work. So, when I got there I already had everything done up from "DaDoftcom" BEST site ever to play around with you tattoos, different sizes, fonts etc  That last tattoo I had was at Agape across the street but my usual artist wasn't there so I researched until I came to find this place and the reviews were awaking so I thought I'd give it a try. From the moment I walked in, it didn't seem really "welcoming", but that was ok, as long as I got my tattoo done well. They asked me if they could take my iPad to see the tattoo I wanted. I was then told they were tracing  it off my iPad. What? Why not just pull up what I wanted directly from the DaFont.com website. That's what they did at Agape. Anyway, I thought the artist was so experienced he could just eyeball it (it wasn't complicated). Well...Turns out there were many mistakes made nothing too traumatic God forbid However it was very disappointing to say the least that the cute details I wanted were completely left out not to mention the tattoo itself on the underside of my forearm is not straight. Another thing to mention is that Lindsey's "bed side manner" is non existent, not friendly at all but that didn't bother me either as long as he was doing great work. So, cut to me leaving and imagine my (slight) horror that this tattoo wasn't what I wanted at all. Obviously I called to see if anything (a bunch of little things, but those little things make all the difference. I knew it wouldn't take mote than 15 minutes to fix the little details yet when I called the very next morning I was told they couldn't fit me in until after 5ish. I explained I had a flight leaving at 4 so I asked if there was anyone who see me. Nope, nothing available. The last but not least and best part of the story is that when I called and explained to whoever answered the phone, I mentioned that I'd see someone else because Lindsey (?) wasn't very friendly and the guy on the phone said, and I quote, "Yeah, he can be very stern". With that, Lindsey got on the phone and instead of showing an concern or sympathy, he went on to lecture me about his he has kids and they don't think he's "stern", meanwhile, it wasn't even me who called him that it was one of his own co-workers. At that point I was so disgusted I just found a place back home and they were able to fix the mistakes and add the details in other places to give it the same effect. When I showed the new artist what it was supposed to be, he said, Wow, his did he (Lindsey) miss all this. Lindsey has may excellent reviews which is exactly went there. Maybe he was having a bad day or I was a fluke. What ii learned most from this experience is scrutinize the sketch/transfer they put on you. I trusted Lindsey so much, I never even thought to check that he may have done anything wrong. It was a basically lettering tattoo. Now I'll check EVERY DETAIL. It wasn't bad enough the tattoo wasn't what I wanted and that is wasn't straight either. As I said, always triple check that the image sketch they transfer onto you before inking it. Read Less

This is the ONLY shop I go to when I want a piece done. Everyone that works here is extremely professional, talented, and kind. My first piece was a monster and took 7 hours to complete; Colin was my artist and I asked him to make the concept idea I had his own, and he blew it out of the park! Wonderful artist. I had Joel do a small rib piece for me, and Brynn recently did a forearm floral walk-in tat for me. Everyone I've worked with has been unbelievably wonderful to me. The facility is super clean too. A good tattoo doesn't come cheap, no matter how small, but the pricing here is super fair! Not exactly cheap, but you're not being insanely overcharged. If you go to any shop expecting super cheap prices, then you'll end up with a super cheap tattoo. I recommend this place to anyone that asks for a tat shop! Read Less

Such a great experience that I had to jump back on Yelp after a 5+ year absence. I've wanted to get a tattoo for years, but have always been a bit apprehensive. When I saw Joel Bones's work on Instagram I decided to reach out because it was so clean and realistic, which is what I'd been looking for. Joel was a superstar. He had me come in for a consultation and walked me through the entire process. The place was clean, comfortable and relaxed. You almost don't even feel like you are in a tattoo parlor (and I mean that in the best way possible). Joel was extremely responsive in our back and forth emails going over the design and he doesn't start the tattoo until you are 100% comfortable with how the sketch looks on your body. I did roughly two three hour sessions and I couldn't be happier with the result. He takes breaks when you need and keeps you informed as he goes. Awesome Shop!!!I came across this shop following one of my friend's IG accounts, where she was tagging her tattoo artist for one of her pieces so I inquired with her on his work & eventually DM'd the artist to set up an appointment.  I came in initially for consultation with Marc to give him idea of what I was looking for.  He took his time to listen to my request, drew up a small sketch which I was pleased with and then I left a deposit to follow up with my appointment.  The tattoo came out awesome and captured every element that I wanted.  Marc does great work and has a great personality which made the whole transaction pretty effortless.  I recently came in for a Friday the 13th tattoo and was able to get Marc again, and of course he did an amazing job.  Everyone in the shop is pretty chill and they make you feel very comfortable being there.  I would highly recommend this shop & obviously Marc would be my go to. I really enjoyed the service in this shop! I had a friend who wanted to get her first tattoo on her 20th birthday and I asked a round for suggestions. This shop was recommended by many of our friends and did not disappoint. Going in as walking before we had work, we went in right as the doors were opening and we were greeted very politely! Came in to get a palm tattoo, my first tattoo, and was promptly told that's a "f***ing stupid idea." Apparently palm tattos can smudge and fade (through no fault of the artist), and also hurt quite a bit. Nevertheless, I found their candor charming, and was undeterred. So after signing some additional waivers they humored my palm tattoo, and I can safely say it has turned out great. I then went ahead and booked an appointment with Brynn, and she made the process that much better. I was a tattoo virgin and never thought I'd ever get one.  Then I saw one on the the arm of a co-worker and suddenly, I couldn't get it out of my mind!  My friend came to Gold Rush to see Arlene and hers was so cool. How I happily ended up artist of my dreams - by accident. A few years ago i walked into Gold Rush - I was looking for an artist that had previously worked at Gold Coast who was no longer there & ended up as a "walk in" with Lindsey Carmichael. As fate would have it, I ended up in the chair of man who has put the most beautiful art on my body- for that I am forever grateful. His sheer artistic talent - clean lines and bold color schema across diverse styles and ranges- his creative process from start to finish - professionalism & genuine mutually respectful code conduct make me loyal to end. The shop is a clean, professional environment - which can a challenge to find - especially as a woman who wants the freedom to have tattoos anywhere on her body. I got my first tattoo last night. Brynne was my tattoo artist and she was great. I was very nervous about the entire thing and I emailed her the font a week before. She totally delivered and it came out better than expected. She was very informative, paid attention to detail, super professional and clean, and she was fast.
