Had a really good experience getting my tattoo with Matt. He captured the concept and spirit of my memorial image for my dad really well, and was responsive to feedback on the initial drawing. Only thing that missed the mark a bit was communication - next time I'd like to see the ideas before we're ready to apply the stencil, and would have re-sent if the inspiration images didn't make it through. We found Agape about 2 years ago when searching for an artist who could fix some work my husband had gotten a few years prior from out of state. We were searching for a long term artist. This is where we found Jake. It began with emails, then was a pleasant phone call, followed by his appt. My husband has had at least 100 hours under the needle, and I have 8 of my own tattoos - so we've had a lot of experience with typical tattoo shops. Let me just say; Agape is NOT typical. They are the most warm and welcoming shop. Jake & the rest of the staff are so incredibly personable, friendly & patient, not to mention insanely talented- (I will add pictures.) We're back today to continue the killer sleeve that my husband gets 5 compliments a day on & I realized I never wrote a yelp review for Agape- which is such an injustice since they really are the best out there. Even today I told Jake as a few teenagers approached him with a picture on a phone, with a budget - he was so patient in explaining what he could do for them. The kids were so excited. At 18-19 I remember being totally blown off at other shops- then leaving so defeated. Again, this is NOT the experience you'll receive at Agape, quite the absolute opposite- which is why we have been back several times!We will continue to come here as long as Jake will have us :) I cannot recommend Agape (or any of their artists, but of course we're partial to Jake) more for anyone! I got my first tattoo here! Matt was so kind and and sweet to me and my friend . We called late and they made time for us,  took us as walk-ins. Matt was super dope not only did it not hurt but he was super patient!! He is awsome at what he does ! He didn't make me feel like an idiot!!! (being that I was nervous getting my first tattoo even tho it was a little cross behind my ear) Matt drew out "sunshine" for my friend (she got it on her trap/shoulder area) It looks sooo good. I had the best experience at Agape and felt right at home! I would go there again no doubt !! Can't wait for my next one! Matt your dope! This place is so far beyond trash. I moved right behind this place Feb 2015, later that year I came in for my 1st time for some piercing jewelry. I walked in and was met with the feeling of why are you in here from the employees. I walked up to the jewelry counter and another employee called out the shop piercer to help me out. I explained the type of piercing I'm using it for and the type of jewelry I was interested in. 1st thing out of this guys mouth was, "don't expect prices like you'd see online", in a very hostile tone. Then points out what I'm looking for, but wants more than anywhere else. I told him it's a little pricey and he flew off the handle and chased me out. Later I found out he was fired for drug use and not being friendly to customers.Second experience:I had just gotten one side of my lip pierced a couple months prior to this visit over at another shop in my home town from the piercer I've been going to for 10 years. My home town is far away and I really wanted the other side done, but didn't want to wait until I visited home again. I decided to come in (early 2016 sometime) and give them a shot. I walked in and this creepy guy with a fedora and a Cpt. Hook style waxed mustache was creeping on some girl as she walked out, following behind her with a grin and hiding behind the door watching her as she walked to her car. He then turns to me as says "damn, she's so fine! I was trying to get her to come back so I can pierce her again! Haha". I just shrugged it off as just a creepy dude that needs to get some. So then I find out he's the "new" piercer they replaced the previous guy with. I inquired about my service and I was told it would be $65, $20 more than I paid for my other side, but in OC I expected it to be more anyways. So after the formalities and some explanation of the procedure we went to the piercing room. There he cleaned and sterilized the area for piercing. Then he clamped me so tight I though my lip was going to explode. I'm not sure what hurt worse, the piercing or the clamp. After I looked in the mirror and it was so jacked up, crooked, misaligned, and waaaayyy too high that he actually peirced into my lip and not right under it. The ring stuck out much further than the other one. When I called him over to look at it and show him, he looked nervous and said oh no it's fine, it's just the swelling. Then I find out he's only been piercing for 6 months!!!!!!! I tried to deal with it for a couple days, but it was awful and my lip was bruised pretty bad. I went back in and explained that this is not placed right at all and needs to be redone. He told me "let it heal (with the ring in) and I can just move the inside hole by re-piercing through the existing front hole". This made me feel super uncomfortable so I ended up driving 2 hours back home to see my regular piercer. He was shocked they had someone doing work like this in a shop and had me immediately remove it to let it heal completely. 2-3 months later my piercer re-pierced it for me and now it looks great. I really can't believe this shop (Agape) can keep its doors open to tell you the truth..I just want it to be known that I'm writing this review a year+ later because I literally lived right behind this shop and I'd see the employees regularly as I walked to and from the establishments in the area. I recently moved again so now we don't have to cross paths awkwardly after me writing this review. I also want it to be known that I never had any tattoo services done here, and the only positive note I left with from any of my visits here was from one of the artists who saw my right sleeve and asked who did the work, I told him, he said he's heard of my artist, complemented me and went on his way. I stopped in on a whim since wanting to get my ears stretched and my septum pierced. Peter walked me through the entire process altogether while ultimately keeping me satisfied with the entire experience. He's very knowledgeable and courteous nonetheless which really made me feel calm, cool and collected. I came to find that the entire staff and personnel were all very helpful,inviting and personable! Friend and I came here around the time it opened and was greeted immediately. She got a double cartilage piercing for $80, which isn't bad for the price, and they were done by Sal. He even changed out the jewelry for two of my piercings at no extra charge. That was super nice of him.I also got my very first tattoo done by Frank Ball Jr. It was an absolute pleasure having him as my artist, and I fell in love with my piece the moment he finished.I would definitely recommend this shop for anyone looking to get a tattoo. The shop: This is a pretty big tattoo shop compared to a lot of locations. The shop is SUPER clean and has a great vibe. There are TVs, music (obvi), a pool table and enough seating for the person getting tattooed to bring a "buddy." Artist: Jake is my artist and he has done a huge favor/project for me which was a half sleeve cover up. It meant a lot to me and my self esteem to see that old tattoo gone and out of my site! He really cares about his work and to make sure you are happy and I couldn't be happier with my results. I ended up going for a full sleeve, and I get so many complements on it.
