I came to get a tattoo today done by Luis. It was a last minute idea. He was very attentive and the whole process was very quick. I came with two friends and he was super chill about them coming in with me. He made me feel very comfortable and on top had a very light hand I honestly didn't feel any pain. I recently moved to California and was looking to get a new tattoo done. I came across Luis's Instagram page @gratefulartist and really was impressed by his work. The tattoo shop was really easy to find and there was free parking -making my trip experience hassle free. (Especially for me since I don't know the area very well yet.)The shop is very clean and the atmosphere is very laid back and friendly. They play music in the background at a decent level where you can still have a conversation and not shout. I brought in a tattoo idea that I found online and Luis was able to help me modify a bit to make it my own. He's very down to earth,and you can tell he takes pride in his work. He's super easy to talk to(and I'm very introverted) that you can almost tune out the pain of the needle.My tattoo turned out great and it's exactly what i wanted. Very beautiful work! First time at this shop. I found it by following Luis Islas on IG. @gratefulartist. He just started at this shop this month. The shop is in a strip mall, the parking lot has seen better days but the shop itself is super clean and with ample room for many tattoo artists! The waiting area is big and is set up with artists' book with samples of their work.  There were two other artists (including the owner of the shop) there at the time working on others. Luis was was nice and patient with all of my ideas and he made some great recommendations on what would look best and placement. He worked out a few different sizes of the sketch to fit my body and we agreed on the same one! (Great minds!) He was very professional and check on me every few minutes while tattooing to make sure I was tolerating the very sensitive spot. He kept his work station clean and changed gloves often. Once done he was kind enough to snap a few shots for me and he made recommendations to add on and adjust some other work I currently have. Came in here in a Saturday morning hoping they had someone available for walk-ins and luckily me and my sister got there early around 11:15 amd talked to Rafael (rascal) I beleive was his name. Could not be more helpful then he was that day. I went in with 2 designs in mind I was hoping to get and decided on a quote on my right upper shoulder. Thats about all I had In  mind and he was so helpful he said he would draw up some some sketches and even showed me some font ideas and we left and walked around the target thats right across the street. He texted us when he was ready and so began the process. It was my first tattoo ever so you can bet I was nervous imagining the worst pain but he was soooo gently and quick!! He had estimated my tattoo would take 2 hours I honestly did not feel the time plus the warriors movie was playing In  the shop so that defiantly helped. in 3 hours max he did me and my sisters tattoo and it looked amazing!!! The shop was so clean...everyone was super friendly.. he cleaned up after my sister and set up for my turn and most of all he took my really simple almost no thought tattoo into something I didnt even know I wanted!!!! The 2 stars are for the friendly environment they provide.I came here for the Friday the 13th tattoo deal. I was really excited when I got a number and then moments later they were turning everyone away. I waited 2 hours and when my number was finally called I filled out the form and was ready to get my tattoo. I sat on the table and the artist talked to me about placement and was knowledgeable about the best place for my tattoo. I noticed that he didn't wipe my leg down with an alcohol pad or even shave my ankle. I should have been wary when I didn't see him open up new needles either. After he finished he told me to keep it covered for 2 hours. This was my 11th tattoo so I know how important it is to listen to the artist. I listened to him and took care of it like it took care of all my other tattoos My tattoo was still red 3 days after I got it. It worried me because none of my other tattoos looked like this (ribs, foot, wrist, arm, back, behind the ear, thigh) but I figured since it was my ankle this was different. It's been almost a week and it began to ooze. I went to urgent care right away and they told me it was infected. So I got an infected tattoo here. Read Less

Huero did two stars on me. One on each shoulder. He was talking on the phone when he did them, and the lines are completely off. These were my first tattoos, and they came out horrible. I had even asked him about getting a Lakers logo tattoo on my leg, and he said he couldn't incorporate the "Los Angeles" part because the ink would run, and make it blurry. I ended up getting my Lakers logo at another shop, and as the tattoo artist was finishing up, he asked me I wanted him to fill in the voids Huero had left in my stars. He did. Took my just turned 18 cousin here for matching nose piercings. I'm from San Francisco and this place was the only place I called and was friendly and great price. Our piercer (Lina) was amazing she took the time to explain the procedure. I have my septum done already from a different shop so I knew most of it. She also helped me with placement because I would wear studs and rings and I didn't want the ring to stick out. Couple months down the road now and my ring looks amazing on placement. They get five stars for me because I went and got my ears pierced in 3 different places somewhere and whoever pierced it did not put the right earrings in as a result the year was so swollen that it started to basically and golf the back of the earring that was initially pierced with my ear. Long story short they gave me a really good deal and fixed all of the piercings for me and were very nice about it very empathetic and very gentle with my poor swollen ears. I really appreciate the lady who worked with me she took the time to listen to what I was saying and then did everything in her power to fix it because she really did feel bad. Such a rad place and environment, the team here is so helpful and friendly with whatever questions you have and don't make you feel stupid when you ask them. I had been want to get my nose pierced after getting done at a different shop years ago, sadly It never healed and was painful, I found Southbay Tattoo & Piercing while searching on yelp called and Lina was so helpful so I came in the same day got my nose done and a couple of days later my nipples. I just got my first tramp stamp @ Southbay Tatoo and they were great. Very easy going. Attitude @ this tatoo shop. The artists are well trained and sensitive to the pain you are going through as you get your ink on. The price runs from $50 deposit to 100 bucks an hour for a small design. What a great piercing experience!!! Lina totally took care of me! She assisted me with placement, color choice and explained aftercare instructions. The shop was very chill. Everyone was just doing their thing, tattooing, drawing, listening to music...The pricing was great and I didn't feel like I had to buy expensive jewelry. I came upon this shop while looking on instagram of any Friday the 13th special. I wanted some few piercings and the prices were unbelievable for a poor (and cheap) student like me. After I got off work at 9:30pm, I came to the shop as fast as I could. They weren't accepting any people anymore because it was so pack but they were able to squeeze me in for my piercings. I had to wait for two hours but it was worth it! The day before, I called the shop because I had some questions. The phone was having a static sound to it so Lina called me through her phone. She was so kind and explained everything to me clearly. She said I could shoot her a message if I had any questions. I was her last customer of the day and I felt a bit embarrassed because I was making her work so hard hahah! But she was so so SO kind and chill, she helped me relax and calmed down. She explained a lot of things to me that I didn't know before. FYI, I am such an anxious and indecisive person but she had so much patience with me and I can't be thankful enough. That made such a huge difference for a person like me. She was so kind even though she had work practically all day! I give salute to all the workers that pulled through! I would have been exhausted!The lady in the front was so adorable and friendly. She was sociable with everyone that came in and made them feel like friends. I've came here for my belly piercing & nose piercing. My belly piercing was done by mondo I'd recommend him if u want any piercings because he tries to make a conversation and actually gives details on how to care for your piercing. I think it was around $40 for it. The 2nd time I have no clue who did my piercing he didn't introduce him self and didn't talk the whole time i feel he was trying to just get me out the way cos it was kinda busy that day. My piercing is fine n all but he didn't tell me when we was gonna put the needle in till I opened my eyes and saw the needle next to my eye. Then after it was done, he didn't say anything on how to take care of it or when I can change it nothing at all. It was $30 for my nose. Overall this place is decent but always ask for mondo! Came in to get my nipples pierced and I LOVE them. I got them done by Mondo who made me feel completely comfortable. He let me know about the process and kept it real. He told me it will hurt but its super fast. He let me have the choice on closing the curtains or not which is great because it feels alot more private. I got a tattoo done here. The artist said he could cover up an existing tattoo so I went for it. Bad decision! The artist did not completely cover up the existing tattoo and used white ink to try to cover it up which did not work. Also, he quoted me $200 and wound up charging me $400! What a rip off! I was met by another guy who was obviously a prejudiced redneck and was told it would take at least 3 hours at 100 an hour. Are u kidding me? I wanted a few flowers to cover the scar I sustained from my seat belt when I was hit by a head on collision with a drunk driver. I truly believe it was because I'm black that I didn't get served.
