It's our 11th wedding anniversary and my husband and I are getting tattoos to commemorate first meeting in 1987. First he went to Touch of Ink and they were closing the shop early because it's Halloween and he didn't want to miss trick or treating with his children. We totally understood that. He was nice enough to call another shop and ask if they could take care of my husband, Nick said yes, so my husband headed over immediately. When he arrived, he showed him the photo of what he wanted. It was very simple, wouldn't have taken long, and was tasteful. Nick stuck his nose up at him and said he "doesn't do tattoos like that" and said he couldn't help him. Never have I ever heard of a tattoo artist, hair dresser, dog groomer etc, turn away a client because they didn't like their choice of haircut or tattoo. Neither of us could believe it. Getting a tattoo is a very special and personal experience. It's something that will be around a lifetime, so, honestly, I'm glad he turned him away. I would hate for him to have gotten a tattoo by this rude, inconsiderate "artist" and had to remember the negative experience every time he looked at it. I have worked with people for a long time, and you never know what someone has been through or are going through when they come to you for a service. You can either make or break their day, and there is never any reason at all to treat someone like that. He's at Mad Dog Tattoos right now and they are taking really good care of him. I'm going after he gets home to get my anniversary tat with them! It's not JUST the quality of the tattoo, but the ENTIRE experience that matters most. I haven't gotten pierced by Madii yet but I've literally had ALL of my troubled piercings switched out with some higher grade metal by her! Weeks after making the switch my piercings were trouble free and finally healing smoothly! This is definitely one of the best tattoo shops I have ever been to. For one they treat you great like you're part of the shop itself. This is the cleanest tattoo shop I have ever been to. Everyone is super friendly and fun. Plus you have a pool table! Right now Jeffrey Collins is working on my tattoo on my neck. He's doing a great job super light handed, and extremely professional. I took my 17 yo daughter and myself to get piercings (she got her Cartledge and I got my daith). Maddie was our piercer she was amazing! Very clean, sanitary, knowledgeable, professional, and just really a nice person. I wanted my daith pierced because I suffer from severe headaches and migraines when I asked Maddie about piercing for migraines she was completely honest and said "there is no scientific evidence that the piercing would help and she didn't want to say it would just to get my money" I appreciated her honest answer and went forward with the piercing because I figure it is worth a shot.... and it's cute! . I love the tattoo I got today! It was exactly what I wanted. Nick Manning does beautiful artwork and beautiful tattoo work! He was so gentle with me it was the least painful tattoo I've ever had. Usually the last hour when they're wiping the ink off your skin becomes excruciating, but it never hurt once. He used such a light touch on me. He was very hospitable and made me feel very welcome. What an awesome shop! Got a little tattoo here yesterday and will definitely be back! The place smelled like bleach,febreeze and glade plug-ins....bumping throwback jams from 80s & 90s while Nick Manning (tattoo artist extraordinaire) TRIED to sing along...lol! Such a great vibe. I really love this place. We called in and everyone had appointments already. Which i was like darn it but could completely understand. Then shortly after i received a call saying they could see us! They changed the music to our liking (even though when i requested Usher he cringed a little lol) When i was cold they turned the air off. Like wow who does that?? Well, my guy Evan C. moved over here from another local shop and now when I am in town visiting from Seattle, I usually get more work done if I've got a few hours to spare. Evan is awesome and he always listens to input on what I'm wanting for my art. I always am happy to add to my tattoos. The location of the shop is great, it's just west of downtown and easy to find just off of Oak St. Parking can be sort of tough during peak hours, weekends especially, since they are right next door to Jake's restaurant (the shop is located on the 2nd floor, by the way). If I could give these guys no stars, I would.We made an appointment for a Friday over a weeks notice. Gave the guy a sketch of what we wanted and he said he'd have his version ready. Friday came and we showed up, this guy was tattooing someone else at the time of the appointment and said he had forgot all about my girlfriends appointment. So he asked us to come back in a few hours. We asked to see his sketch and he said he hadn't done it yet. Meaning he was going to sketch something up fast. I'm sorry but if I'm paying 125 an hour and this guy's just going to sketch something up fast I'm getting ripped off. Highly recommend that you go elsewhere. Read Less
