Stop searching! This is the shop you want!So a couple friends and I came here on 10.13.17 for some small 13 pieces. Paul Henry helped us out and was super friendly and helpful. He heard the story for my friend's reason for his pick (skull and crossbones) and was super moved and decided to pay it forward by making his piece on the house! Fast forward to today, I came in to get a new nose ring since I lost my last one. Amy Von was able to help me out and even helped me refit it as it was starting to close up. The whole thing took like 2 minutes. On my way out, Paul Henry recognized the piece he did couple months back and wanted to see how it healed. After checking it out, he asked if he could touch it up FOR FREE. Now as somebody who has a few pieces, I have NEVER had an artist charging nothing for a touch up! These people are TRUE ARTISTS. They want to ensure that the work they do is up THEIR standards. And from my personal experience here in Bako, that's rare. My friend and I decided to get tattoos . Not matching. I got a cross she got a bible verse. The guy who tatted us answered some basic questions . I was weary on the answers but I figured who messes up a simple cross ? Right? Wrong . He doesn't have a book to show for his work. When asked where he worked... he said everywhere. Then when asked how many years he's been working he said since forever . My friends verse is spelled wrong. Looks like gibberish honestly I can't read what it says. My cross well, thought a cross would be simple but it looks uneven . The owner should let experienced tattoo artist in his shop . I told my friend, SHOULD HAVE GONE TO MAD DOG! It has been years since I've had any sort of piercing done. My last one was done in a mall tattoo shop- not the greatest environment. I came to Modern Electric with a friend who planned on getting her nipples pierced and already knew the piercer she wanted to see. I decided on a whim that I wanted to get my septum pierced. I loved the inside of the shop! It was super clean, organized, and extremely spacious. Once we approached the counter we were given the appropriate forms to initial and sign and our IDs were photocopied. It didn't take long for Amy to set up and we were ready to rock and roll! To be honest, I was extremely nervous. Despite the fact that I have three tattoos and have had three different piercings, I was STILL nervous! I think Amy could tell because she was very reassuring and explained everything that she was about to do. She sanitized the area, told me I had an awesome septum, and used the clamp on the area (which was worse than the needle, to be honest). She instructed me to take a deep breath and as I was exhaling, she pushed the needle through. Before we left, she gave us both detailed aftercare instructions which also included her email and social media. She also said that we could text her if we had any questions and that no question was a stupid question. She also gave me some sterile q-tips before I left for cleaning my piercing. I highly recommend this shop for tattoos and piercings. I also highly recommend Amy. She will be the person I go to for any future piercings I may want to get. Hello all!  I've never given a 1 star review of anything so I'm kinda nervous about it.  My name is David-Michael Blake. I am an Air Force veteran who served overseas during Operation Allied Force in Europe.  I recently had 2 pierecings done on my lower lip by Ashton at Modern Electeic Tattoo.  He is a wonderful,caring,smart man.  He suggested that I put my piercings a little higher than I wanted because the labrets(fangs) i was going to install later, were long and he thought they could give me problems hanging so low.What happened was any time i ate afterwards my teeth would grab the back of the studs and cause me intense pain and swelling.  They weren't going to heal anytime soon.  I was eating a grape at my moms house when my stud and ball popped out!  I freaked out and put the stud back in and put a band aid over it.  Drove to modern electric and arrived at 2100 hours.  They were closed.  I thought to myself, what kind of tattoo place is closed at 9 oclock on a Friday night?? I tried to call them and no answer.  I was nervous now.I called mad dog tattoo and asked if they do piercings.  He said yes!  I said, on my way.  I was immediately seen!  C.J. Sat me down, inspected everything, gave me a list of problems and then offered to pierce me for free because he was embarrassed that someone in his industry would do this to someone.I ended up chatting with a cool guy Justin A. And he repaired a Tattoo that I have been embarrassed about for years!  It took ablol while and hurt like a motherfucker but now I can be proud again!!!THANK YOU MAD DOG TATTOO FOR BEING THERE WHEN I NEEDED HELP!I met the owner of Modern Electeic yesterday. Bill.  I asked for a refund and he balked!  He walked away and he called for Ashton.  Ashton couldn't refund my money but it wasn't his fault.  I told Ashton that he was a hood man and shook his hand.  I told him that I see who he works for and that he needa to find another shop.  I also told him, THIS PLACE WILL NOT LAST LONG HERE.  He nodded and I saw his frustration on his eyes.I've been there.  I've worked for greedy people. First of all, the shop itself is large, clean, well organized and inviting. You immediately feel at ease because it is obviously a professional environment. I walked in unannounced on a Sunday and asked for two tattoo's, a birthday present from my step-daughters. Chris immediately took us in, looked at what I wanted and took me back to his station. He was very thorough in explaining what he was going to do. He explained that because of my 'older, thinner skin' there might be some blowout but not to worry, he would fix it without any additional cost. Sure enough there was significant blowout on one of the tat's and he took care of it as promised. I do not have tattoos or weird piercings. (I have my ears pierced)I am giving this shop 5 stars because of my daughter. She wanted to wait until she was 18 to get a nose piercing. She's a Straight "A" student and doesn't party. For her to ask for a nose piercing was the least of my worries. I work a few doors down from this tattoo shop and have heard only great things about it. It is a very clean and nicely kept shop.  I spoke to Amy and explained to her that if anyone was going to pierce my daughters nose, it might as well be someone that knows what they are doing. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and Amy was out sick. :(We got Ashton instead.This young man was very professional and knowledgeable. He answered any questions I had and he put my daughter at ease. I searched the web for all of the tattoo shops here in Bakersfield and read the reviews to all of them. Modern Electric Tattoo had the best reviews so I decided to go check the place out. The place was very clean and I loved the atmosphere there. I discussed with Brian how I wanted my tattoo and he answered all of my questions. Since this was my very first tattoo ever I had a lot of questions. Brian did a fantastic job and he made it exactly the way I wanted it to be. The staff there are very friendly and super nice. I asked to see a portfolio only to be told one was "lost" (of the artist that was there) and the 2 little books that were there had crap work in them....then told they were closing up for the night after the "artist" finished up whatever it was he was doing.....and their other artists were out sick. OKAY. SO. I've been looking for a really decent artist in town for ages. I felt compelled to get a tattoo a couple of weeks ago. Well, three but. Whatever. So anyway, I've heard good things about M.E. and called to see if they could take a walk in. They said they could! I told him I would be there in 15 minutes. When I showed up he was designing a piece for somebody else who had walked in. I was irritated-- you knew I was coming, why go ahead and do that? He was the only artist available. He said he was calling somebody in and they'd be right over. I waited. Thirty minutes. An hour. I was getting mad. Then he said three o'clock. Another 45 minutes, wtf? I can't believe I still waited. When the guy FINALLY showed up he was nothing but nice. We got along really well and my tattoos turned out gorgeous. Line work is amazing, etc. It took way longer than I expected but this was a Sunday walk in thing and I don't think this would have ever been the case had I made an appointment. I also found out the guy had basically been on his way to LA and came back for me. Budah (I think is the way he spells it? I know it's not Buddha)-- is awesome. Like, true artist awesome. Deciding where to go and who to trust with your body is no easy task. After much research and recommendations from my friends I decided to go to Modern Electric for both a tattoo and piercings. Jsin, the piercer was amazing. He was informative, attentive, and understood my nerves. Because I was getting pierced where I had already been I had lots of questions about scar tissue. He completely put my mind at ease and made removing my top a non-issue. Chris fixed up an old tattoo for me that was done by a non-professional (I was young and dumb). Prior to speaking with him I was concerned that the tattoo was so far gone it would never look like I wanted it too. He was able to adjust the outline to even it up, fill in a lot of gaps, and make the entire thing black (previously a multicolored tat). His work is awesome and I intend on going back to him for another cover up. As far as the shop goes it was very clean. My experience with tat shops have been standard - not everything is in its place and the walls are covered in standard flash. Not Modern Electric. While there is art, it's fairly obvious that the pieces were drawn by the artists - a huge selling point. And while it was clear that I was in a sterile environment, it didn't feel as cold as a hospital. All the staff I had the pleasure of speaking to were warm, kind, and friendly. Overall, regardless if your new to tattoos and piercings or an old pro there is nothing about Modern Electric that you won't appreciate. Read Less
