This was my very first tat and the experience was great. There was hardly any pain at all just a slight sting and Ashely did a fantastic job. She's really cool and a phenomenal artist. I've gone here for all 6 of my tattoos and I don't have a high pain tolerance so the fact that the artist Shane and Ryan were able to do such a great job with me moving quite a bit and never once got impatient with me especially Ryan with my 3 hr leg session. I came across this shop after having a bad experience with my nostril piercing from a different place. Riley took me in and looked at my sinking piercing. She was honest and told me that she couldn't remove it that I needed to go to the ER or doctor to have it removed.  After getting it removed, I called Riley and let her know that I was ready to have a new nose piercing on the other side. She made sure that there would be ample time between the removal of the first piercing and the new one. She did a WONDERFUL job! She explained step by step what she was going to do before the actual actions. Very little pain for just a few seconds. We used a labret type of post. I loved this idea because I knew it wouldn't just slide out. She gave very good aftercare instructions and even emailed them too so I would have a copy!I plan on going back at the end of December to have her do a Monroe piercing and changing the long bar in my nose to a shorter one. Meh....I had been coming here since it opened and I've watched it go through a lot of changes (good and bad, positive and negative). My last few visits have left me all but impressed. First when I went in to add to my fathers memorial tattoo on his birthday and the artist who was tattooing me, while I'm laying on her table getting tattooed and trying to have my therapeutic process, begins spewing out the mouth that she's all white pride! WTF!? Mind you NO ONE asked nor where we even on the topic of such and as an African American/ Jamaican and Native American Women, I don't care nor do I want to hear such garbage while I am grieving and trying to heal my grief!! NOT OKAYI return (mostly due to the fact that I know the owner and I'm loyal to a fault) to have my daughters bridge piercing done and order myself some jewlery. The piercer messed up and my daughters piercing was very noticeably crooked so she pierced her AGAIN. I get that "things happen" what I don't get is why nothing was done or offered in the way of an apology for the screw up, it was shrugged off and we where still charged full price. And I'm STILL waiting for my jewlery 2 months later I return AGAIN (like I said loyal to a FAULT) this time to have my little ones ears pierced and surprisingly it went well and they where happy.I will say that the place is clean, neat and well kept. Had an appointment for my birthday yesterday and also for my 78 year old dad... so it was quite an exciting yet quite an effort for my crippled dad. I was told Shane was going to do our tattoo's and would also be the muscle for my dad to get up and down. When we got there they were overbooked, Shane ignored us the ENTIRE time, never once acknowledged us, not even when we walked in, yet he yelled across the room to greet a girl who peeked her head in asking for the old owner and to use the phone. After about 10 minutes of waiting and being ignored finally another employee showed up, I assume Tiff and had to be the bad guy and tell us to wait 5 hours or to come back the next day. I've been here before to get piercings/work done with other artists and they do a great job!.. but Ive had a bad experience with one artist there, Ray. My sibling and I went to talk about getting a tattoo done by Ray and she flat out told me my drawing was horrible. Business hours posted are not to be relied upon.  I went in on a Saturday at 11:30 and the light on the "OPEN" sign was not turned on.  When I asked why, the guy at the front desk was unfriendly and didn't answer.  I asked for Joey and he said that was him.  Again I asked about the sign and he said they just got in.  No smile or "How may I help you?" According to Joey, the business now is only him and some other guy that was at the drawing table.  The nice guys that USED to work there were very accommodating and professional with my daughter's piercings but they are no longer there.  I'm not sure what Joey's problem was but he came across as very arrogant and I would not trust nor recommend their service to anyone! We went in on Sunday to get my 7 year old nieces ears pierced. I was definitely uneasy as I'm not comfortable in tattoo and piercing places. I had my 6 year old in tow. I cannot recommend this place enough. I was so impressed. Everyone was friendly. The piercing area is in a separate area/room from the tattoos. Joey was amazing with the girls. Explained the process, answered every question the girls could throw at him and was so sweet with them. The process they use is so safe and clean, very little pain and I feel it's going to be a much better system to change out the earrings (posts stay in the ear, the pretty tops can be changed out). Highly recommend Joey and this establishment. (Because Joey takes his time with each client, a simple ear piercing can take over an hour. I have been going to Joey at Utopia Tattoo for my arm sleeve and each and every step he does is simply amazing work. He actually draws the tattoo by his own imagination on my arm and tattoos. The colors and design he's chosen all the way through have been incredible!!! Hes very professional and very reasonable in my opinion. So this review is long overdue!! A few months ago, I had a coverup done by Shane. I had a tribal butterfly from my 20's on my lower back, that was dark and large and I thought it'd be a miracle to overlay anything on it...yet, I thought I'd at least ask if it were possible! I came to Utopia first by a recommendation, so let's put that out there...and I'm so stoked I did!! Scheduled a consultation with Shane, and brought pictures of what I wanted. He said it's not an easy task, yet he felt confident he'd be able to cover it with the owl and tree I wanted. And a week later, cover it he did!!! Please don't waste your time going here! I went in for the Friday the 13th piercing special.. waited 2 hrs with my small kids in tow. Did not have anyone else with me. Filled out paperwork, when it was my turn she came out and told me my kids can't go back with me and they can't sit here. They aren't even allowed in the shop! So someone couldn't have said something in the 2 HOURS I waited?! Im beside myself how rude that was. Unbelievable. She didn't want to wait for me to find someone, so I left. I liked this place, and had gone to Utopia a couple times. Called in today to see if they could do a piercing for me and when I called it went to a soundless voicemail thing, so I hung up and called again, same thing happened.
