Came in on a whim, this Monday, with my wife to get tattoos. We were impressed by the decor on the walls and how clean they kept the place. We felt very comfortable there. Niles greeted us and set us up for an appointment on Thursday. We showed up on time and he was already setting up. He showed us a design he had made for us during the week. It was well thought out and exactly what we were looking for. Niles held a conversation with both of us the entire time making sure my wife and I were comfortable through out. This place is rude as hell! I called to see about a nose ring and the girl who answered the phone had a attitude 5/18/18 at 2:45pm. She told me they do not do piercings (with the most snobby attitude) then she just hung up on me  two suggestion black tie affair tattoo 1) probably should update your yelp if you do not do piercings 2) get and new person to answer your phone. This place was exactly what I was looking for to get a tattoo. The inside of the shop was big and very clean. I was satisfied. But then i met Niles. I didnt have much of an idea of what kind of tattoo i wanted to get when i went in. I just knew that i wanted a sleeve piece done. I had some previous work done on one arm and as soon as Niles seen it, he just took off exploding with possible ideas he could do with it. He had a very excited and positive attitude and good vibes going on as we discussed some possibilities. I am very pleased with the art work he had created. So, I took a long time before I wrote this review. I wanted it to be helpful and insightful to others. Although, I should be down there yelling at someone. I wish I could rate per tattoo artists because this review is really based on one artist. I was really excited for Ghost to do my tattoo and I put a deposit down of $100 so he could start my design. He kept in contact with me and texted me pics of his design. I had made an appointment to get tatted on Dec 27, 2017. On or about Dec 18, 2017 I got a text from him asking me to come in and pay for the rest of my tattoo. I know that this is not the way that this usually works. I should have seen the signs then, but I am a little bit of a bleeding heart. So, through in the holidays mixed with you cant afford to buy your kids Christmas gifts,  and I did it against my better judgment. So, now it came time to get my long awaited cover up and I show up on time and he isn't set up yet. So, I waited and even had time to go to Starbucks. He assured me that we should be able to finish in one session. 4 hours in we had only 1/2 the tattoo finished and he decided that we should set up an apt for a 2nd session. I asked if that would cost me more and he said " No, you are all paid up". That we could schedule to finish up once I was healed. Fast forward to the 2nd week in Jan. Ghost texted me to see how I was and if I was still alive. I explained that I was sick all week, but I was ready to come in the next week and finish up. He then proceeded to ask me when I was planning to get a 2nd tattoo that we had previously spoke about. He also asked me to come in and pay him for that tattoo so he could start designing it. He actually wanted the full amount.  I politely told him no because I wanted to finish the one we started, and I was sure what I wanted for my 2nd tattoo. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on you. On Jan 9th he was supposed to get back to me a time for the next day to finish up. He didn't get back to me. So, Jan 14 was now the day he changed it to Jan 15 but didn't give me a time. He didn't answer me back for a time. Jan 16 he said he was sick and asked which day I could come early. Jan 17 I texted him to tell him how frustrated I was and that I was irritated for being avoided. He asked me if I could do Sunday, Jan 21st. Then he texted me letting me know he had the flu and we needed to reschedule again. He assured me that I was his top priority.  I sent him a text Jan 27th because I still hadn't heard from him. Today is Feb 8th and I still haven't heard from him. 'I paid for a whole tattoo and yet I only got half. I am still incomplete and it sucks. I waited 15 years for this cover up and it really meant a lot to me. Like I said before I wish I could review one artist because its not the rest of the shop's fault for one crook. However, I would look closely at who you have representing you and your name. I do have all the text messages saved on my phone to back up my claims. At this point I am calling it a loss and I wouldn't let him finish up. I saw another review from someone who had a similar issue with Ghost. What a bust. Read Less

I've always had Dwight do my work. He and I have been friends for a long time. He is a true artist. He's collaborated with me on each tattoo. For my recent work we opted for him to draw directly on me so we could get the best possible finished product. I trust his artistic eye and am proud to have his work on me. If you're looking for realistic tattoos in black and white, go see Dwight. I've always had great experiences interacting with the other artists in the studio when I'm getting my tattoos and their work looks just as amazing. Each artist, and their specialties, are different so be sure to explain what you're looking for up front. Don't worry if one artist isn't interested in the piece or if they recommend another to work on yours. Sometimes Michelangelo shouldn't try to make a Jackson Pollock. Read Less

I had a great experience getting my belly button pierced!  The staff was welcoming and friendly and made me feel comfortable instantly!  Garrett did my piercing and was very gentle, the piercing took no time at all and barley hurt! My husband had been contemplating his first tattoo for two years. After hearing about BTA from a friend he said, let's do it. We walked in and we were greeted, introduced to PJ and he viewed my husbands design. He quoted a price and did the work the same day. We knew this wasn't typical practice, but we were so glad to get it done same day. PJ even relined and redid the color on my own tattoo after completing my husband's which was unexpected but i had also been wanted to get it done. Would recommend for sure! Read Less

Came in over the weekend to get my first tattoos done. I had come in earlier in the week and talked to PJ and he quoted me great price. Everywhere I went everyone was charging me a couple hundred for a small 2x3 tattoo. He said no worries and charged me just the shop minimum. When i came back on the weekend i had changed my mind and chose a different design and he said he would still charge me the price he quoted me even though the new design was a little more work than my first one. So i got one on my ankle and a larger one on my calf. While he was doing that he started talking with my wife and hooked her up with a really nice Simba tattoo on her wrist. PJ is super nice and really cool. He's totally about the artistic side of tattoos and isn't in it for the money. He does really great work and doesn't charge a ridiculous amount. Go in and ask for PJ you won't be sorry. He's really the reason for those 5 stars. Read Less

Dwight was AMAZING! First and foremost he truly showed interest in what I wanted as a client. He listened and provided feedback to ensure my tattoo looked exactly how I pictured it. I went to this tattoo parlor as a walk In because it was close to my house and I needed a small cover up for work. In a addition to getting my cover up, I asked to get a a small outline of a heart on my right shoulder. Maria was my artist and I was excited to add to the art on my body. She printed out an outline from the computer without asking what I thought of it to begin with. I figured it was more of guidelines instead of a stencil since it was such a simple tattoo to do. While being tattooed she answered her phone and was talking while tattooing me. Didn't ask if it was okay with me, didn't stop to take the call  (which would have been fine), just kept tattooing and and didn't acknowledge it after. The finished heart looked kind of crooked, one side a little smaller than the other but I gave it a chance to heal and see what the finished product looked like and it's honestly embarrassing. Its not in a place where I can hide it easily and when I asked the artist if they could just do it somewhere else because the tattoo took literally two minutes to do and is an outline no bigger than one inch, they said they could either fill it in, make it thicker or give me a discount if I wanted a new one. I plan on getting it covered and also getting the original tattoo that I wanted, just not from this place. I'm sure other people have had good experiences but I would personally never set foot after the terrible customer service and quality of my two minute tattoo. Read Less

i spent $580 on 2 sessions worth of unfinished work and he still had the audacity to tell me " I SHOULD'VE CHARGED YOU MORE" . Josh is the manager/ artist of black tie affair tattoo located in Artesia. He is unprofessional and charges ridiculous prices for mediocre work. Very unreliable and he isn't great with communication. Thankfully i was able to find someone to fix his mistakes and i came out with a beautiful tattoo. Please pick your artist wisely. Read Less

I wanted to get a tattoo today so I gave Black Tie Affair a call. The guy said I am welcomed to walk-in and get a quote. When I walked in I was greeted by Josh Moon and told him what I wanted. He said he was going to be the one who was going to help me. We discussed the price and it was reasonable! Josh Moon was very detailed in his work and made sure that my tattoo was on point! PJ is the man! Super nice guy, listens to what his clients are looking for and actually cares about exceeding expectations. I walked in on Monday with my wife and sister to get some ideas on paper for Thursday tattoos. Mine was an easy idea, but not an easy tattoo. I got the New Orleans Saints logo on the front of my left biceps. Lots of curves in the fleur de lis, but PJ had the perfect stencil drawn out and ready for our appointment. He had long smooth lines that had crisp corners at the points. All of this while maintaining conversation and making my 6th tattoo an even more enjoyable experience than usual. I appreciate the cleanliness of his shop and was impressed with how he used and treated his apprentices. It's easy to see how dedicated the artists are to their trade and I will recommend this shop to anyone and everyone and plan to get many more pieces done here in the future. Read Less

Got a simple rose done on my side, walked in with no appointment and was taken immediately . They didn't drill with too many legal questions, and the pricing was fair. My cousin and I had the pleasure of being tattooed by Brian. I got a very simple tattoo and he was very gentle! My cousin got a really cool lettering on his back and it came out fantastic. He really took his time with the design and made sure it didn't look generic! I also had a chance to chat with the owner and he was super cool!
