My initial thought on this location:Great place to get a tattoo if you live in the SGV area. Location is in a plaza close to Santa Anita mall. This place has street parking and you can park  anywhere with ease.I told peter to do a tribal sketch for me and it turned out just like I wanted. Lines are straight and the tattoo healed perfectly in 2 weeks.Peter Gunz is light with his hands and quick to the touch. He charges by the hour and sometimes by the session depending on the size of your tattoo. Long overdue review for this place. We're talking about 4 years overdue...Told him I wanted 3 koi fishes and a lotus and he had the ability to free draw it. Was a bit skeptical at first because my whole arm was just fill with sharpie outlines but if you give an artist to do his thing with a big canvas, that where you see the magic happen. 3 sessions after, 8 hours each, my first sleeve was done and it still pops out a lot after 4 years! The other sleeve is still a work on process. Consists of carrots, beets, radishes, tomatoes, eggplants, kumquat, bok choys, a buddha hand, heart of fire and borage blossom with more to come! All the colors still pop out and you're able to see that carrot pretty far away. I get the most compliments in the industry with this sleeve. I'm writing this review for my wife since she isn't on Yelp. She is an artist and drew a photo of some birds that are very meaningful to her. And in researching a tattoo artist, she had lots of people recommending various places to go. But she said it was important that she pick a place where not only was the artist really great but that it had the right feel. She wanted to go somewhere that felt special so she would have a nice memory since this tattoo meant a lot to her. Peter was really kind and professional, and a tremendous artist -- even down to recognizing the subtle thickness of the lines of her original drawing. He took his time and did a beautiful tattoo that gets lots of compliments and most of all, is something that my wife looks at all the time and feels really good about. I had been wanting to get tattoos for many years but never really got around to do it because I was afraid of the pain and worried that they wouldn't look good on me. I have a few friends who have been tattooed by Peter before and they recommended to get my first tattoo here.I have gotten 3 small tattoos from Peter so far. He is a very friendly and gentle person. I really enjoyed getting tattooed by him (except the pain because I have no pain-tolerance...lol) because he really cares about his work, his art, and his customers. I brought a picture of the design I wanted for my first tattoo. Peter helped me to choose a nice size and drew the design out to make sure it was what I had in mind. Peter was very patient and understanding even though I had to take a lot of breaks when I got my first tattoo. I got a small rose right above my elbow and a smiley face on my finger just a few days ago. I drew the smiley face myself but Peter designed the rose for me based on the descriptions I gave him. Started off with a quarter sleeve, then had to get a full sleeve.  I first asked for a Chinese guardian Lion (Foo Dog) that he had posted up on his wall (which he drew).  Turned out great, he even added cherry blossoms to help the black ink stand out more.  Then for the rest of my arm, I asked for a folksy nine tailed fox, told him how I wanted it to look, and then he freehand the monster.  I love it! I'm writing this review for a tattoo I got from Peter in 2016.  Before getting a tattoo he requires a photo ID and the usual personal information so that is why I was hesitant to write the review.  So this is what happened, please bear with me.I came in to have Peter do some lettering and at first I thought it looked okay, and I was happy, no problems.  After coming home and washing off the ink and blood, I realized that some parts weren't straight, some parts were lighter than the rest and overall it didn't look right.  When I had time later that week I went in and asked if he could take a look and touch it up.  I wasn't demeaning or angry and I told him I totally understand it may not be perfect when there's blood and ink all over the skin which makes it difficult to see.  I've gotten many other tattoos from other artists whom have never been angry or insulted if their tattoos needed touching up because that's standard in the tattoo industry.  It happens.  But the dude straight up turns steaming mad and said I insulted him by even thinking of asking him to do that.  He kind of started ranting about how I didn't appreciate his art and I was insulting his craft and so on.  I was kind of dumbfounded and puzzled as to why he was so angry and defensive when I didn't even think it was a big deal.  It was apparent that Peter was pissed off and irate so I decided that I didn't want him to work on it anymore.  It was the most bizarre thing, like a switch went off in his head or something.  If you are considering getting a tattoo I would look around because there are so many cool and better artists in his price range.  Or if you do decide to get a tattoo from him make sure it's perfect the first time around because he won't want anything to do with you after you've paid him.Glad you remembered me Peter.  Yes, I know I need to wait until it healed because I've gotten touch ups before.  The reason I went back to you that week is because I wanted to let you see it right away before too much time has passed.  You were definitely angry and upset or I wouldn't have written this review.  To be honest, you kind of scared me that day, I didn't know if you wanted to punch me or something, I've never witnessed anything like it.  I don't know how I would have taken that the wrong way, it was pretty apparent you were angry.  Like I said before, I wasn't demeaning or insulting or demanding, that is why I was so caught off guard when you became so upset.  The tattoo has already been fixed and the person who fixed it was genuinely surprised you were okay with your work. My best friend and I came to this shop about 8 months ago as walk ins after we had some Chinese food nearby. Earlier that year my best friend was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia so we wanted to get something together, just for the two of us. We looked over his work and decided to just go for it.He was with another customer at the time so we spoke for a little bit and he asked us to come back in 20 minutes. After we came back we told him we wanted him to draw something that was unique, something just the two of us have. We said we wanted two dolphins coming together making a heart shape meeting at the nose (like an Eskimo kiss). He said that's no problem and asked us to come back in about half an hour to allow him time to work on it. We came back and he showed us his drawing and we both loved it and got it on the same spot, on our inner bicep.Four months after that she passed away after a grueling battle. I was so sad and I'm still sad she's not here with me. It was during that time that I wanted to get another tattoo to remember her by, so I just googled dolphin tattoos to get some ideas and saw our design on a free tattoo website. Not a similar design but the SAME EXACT design as ours.I've been to my fair share of tattoo shops and I've always trusted the artist to do the right thing when it came to something like this but after this experience I'm not as trusting anymore. I felt so angry and disappointed and sad at the same time. It was supposed to be something we both shared and every time I look at that tattoo I can't help but think about how many other people share the same tattoo as ours. A cover up...I was recommended by a fellow co-worker.  Booked the appointment for September to cover up  some asian writing.Peter had an oil painting of a cherry blossom hanging on his wall. The cover up was located on my wrist.  I wanted the tattoo to be small. Peter recommended that, if the tattoo is small the detail would be lost.  I saw his work so I trusted him.First he sketched the cherry blossom out with a pen onto my wrist then the ink. I saw his work on yelp and really felt comfortable that he would do great on the dainty crisp lines i needed for my design. He was very professional, very chill, and someone you can open up to in an instant. After speaking to him about my design, my concerns, I was certain that he's the guy I am looking for. The process was no where near as painful as I thought it would be and since it was my first tattoo, he even did one dot on me so I can see how it feels, making sure I'm comfortable with the pain before he continues. Like all the previous reviews have said, PETER IS AMAZING!I've always wanted a tattoo for a few years now but was always scared of the pain (I have zero pain tolerance fyi). So for my birthday and also Valentine's Day, my friend and I decided to finally get the tattoos we wanted as a way to start my 20s with a bang. My friend wanted 38 in Roman numerals ("XXXVIII") on his left chest while I wanted an outline of the sun on the Taiwanese flag on my upper back. We walked in at 3pm on a Saturday and the shop was empty. Peter attended to us immediately and gave us estimates on our design. Note that he has a $50 minimum no matter what the piece is and the price can increase depending on size and detail. Because it's CASH ONLY, we decided to come back at 4 after I calm my nerves and withdraw some money from the ATM at the nearby mall.Somehow at 4pm, I found the courage to come back to the shop where Peter gave us a couple of contracts to sign and printed out our designs to finalize the size of it for the stencil print. He was super gracious in making a ton of adjustments and making sure we were happy with the size and placement of our respective design. Both my friend and my tattoos ended up to be $50. My friend went first and it took around 10 minutes so before I knew it, IT WAS MY TURN.Peter placed the print right in the center of my upper back, making sure that the tip of the highest ray was exactly at where my shoulders met. I'm so appreciative that he truly cares about and listens to what you want because I mean, this tattoo is going to be there forever. He sat me down and we began. Mine took 20 minutes and wasn't as excruciatingly painful as I had imagined (Did I mention I have a fear of needles?) In fact, I didn't even cry. My friend has once described to me that getting a tattoo felt like getting cut slowly by a shard of glass and I have to say that it's a pretty damn good description of how it felt. All in all, the pain is bearable because your desire for the tattoo should overpower your fear of the process. Mine certainly did. And trust me --- things are never as bad as you have it in your head. If the pain is the only thing holding you back, I say just do it! What's 20 minutes to the rest of your life? Read Less
