I had no appointment or reservation. I had heard about this popular spot and so while running errands around Alhambra yesterday, i popped in just to check it out. I was instantly drawn to the place because the vibe was so chill and everyone was friendly. Other shops kinda make you feel like youre not supposed to be there but not this one. The super cool artist that took time to accommodate me was Sunny. She was patient enough to explain things about my tattoo and how it could get complicated. But after telling me what i needed to know, we decided to pull the trigger and have a go at it. Sunny took her time laying it out and stenciling in the bars i wanted on my forearm. I was also impressed at how all the artists were accountable to each other. Many times during the session she would stop, take off the gloves and bring me to lucy, who i think was the master artist(?) for approval. Nevermind the frequent stops im between pain; im glad that they were perfectionists no matter how mundane the piece was.After two hours, i was done. Been wanting to get pierced on my right ear since it was bare, unlike my left ear. This place was recommended to me by a good friend and I am glad I came here as well. Throughout the entire process it was Hector who helped us out and explained the whole procedure to us. The piercing process was so smooth and we also used the check in for 10% off as well which made the piercing even more affordable. I got a double lobe piercing for 36 with the discount and jewelry. Hector was amazing and extremely passionate about his job! I had concerns regarding getting an industry piercing due to the anatomy of my ear but he went through the process of potentially putting a bar there. Got my third ear piercing. I decided to stop trying it with a gun since it would always get infected. Hector was really nice and polite. Explained the process as he went along, and answered any questions I had. $40 for both ears including jewelry.  He made sure to consult the placement before doing anything. I wish they had more of a variety of smaller gauge earrings but Hector reassured me the hole will shrink down after I change my earrings. I hope he's right. Came in to make an appointment with Man Yao for July 2019, and got pierced by Sunny! Both were really pleasant to talk to and made the experience fun, so I'm looking forward to coming back. Sunny had a lot of clients in line after me (busy Saturday), but was nice and patient with me during our session. She was gentle and attentive. I got a beautiful tattoo done by Lucy about a week ago but, my experience there was sub par. I sat in their lounge area for 1 1/2 hours only for her to bring out a VERY, VERY, VERY simple drawing of what I wanted. Why did it take so long to sketch something so simple? It's not my first time getting a tattoo so I knew that it shouldn't have taken that long. If she was busy with something else, she should've told me. I would've happily walked down the street with my bf to get boba or something quick to eat while we waited for her. So, during the tattooing process, not once did she ask if I was doing ok or if I needed a quick break or if I was comfortable. Mind you, I was laying on my stomach with my neck turned to one side. My neck was in pain from laying at that angle. Whenever I had the chance, I would quickly raise my head and move it so it wouldn't ache so much. She was talking to other people the whole time and even got up to hug someone while I was laying there waiting for her to get back to work. After my tattoo was finished, she told me my total was $400 when she quoted me for $300. Her reason was because it took longer than she thought. Maybe she shouldn't have been getting distracted and actually focused on my tattoo? I ended up paying the $400 + tip but I was disappointed in the way my appointment went. sunny was very quick with the process (i got a flat and a tragus) and it was less painful than i thought it would be!!  when sunny asked me where i wanted the piercing, she let me know her recommendation based on my ear shape. she also explained the aftercare very well. i love the star jewelry i picked out but my only complaint would probably be that i wish there were more jewelry options to choose from (i didn't ask if there were more, so that would be my fault if they do have more choices). flat cartilage was $30 and tragus was $40 which both included the jewelry which i think is great because a lot of places charge extra for the jewelry!! will definitely come back here if i decide to get more piercings :) Read Less

Came in to accompany a friend who had never had anything pierced before. We were greeted by a male staff member who was friendly. There was 10% off the piercing for checking in. My friend had his nose piercing done by Sunny. Now before coming here we looked up reviews on local tattoo and piercing shops and this place seemed like it had nothing negative about the piercings.As a person who has had many piercings done, I've always seen the piercer remover all of his or her tools out of the sterilizer bags just before the piercing is performed. This is so that the customer is aware that everything used is clean and sterilized. However, we had to wait outside while Sunny got everything ready, and when we entered the room all the tools were laid out on the tray ready for use. This goes for the jewellery that was gonna be used too. My friend is a very talkative guy, especially being nervous about this piercing and I found Sunny to be rude towards him. I've always been a stern believer that you get exactly what you pay for. These individual artist do charge per hour but well worth the time and money spent here. Do not put a price on high quality, especially a tattoo. Peace of mind that the tattoo will come out perfect is priceless. I can't say enough positive things about these tattoo artist. For it being my first tattoo, I felt comfortable and at ease. Everyone at this shop has a great sense of humor witch in turn create a very positive energy around the shop. I had such a pleasant time getting 2 cartilage helix piercings here!!I did a walk-in for my piercing. I was dumb and didn't see on Yelp that the place was cash only and they let me go to the bank down the street (there's a chase nearby if that helps) and come back and the second I got back, we were good to go! So just be sure to have cash on hand and you'll have no problems haha. It was $25 for each cartilage piercing including jewelry!What I like the most about this place is that the people here are NICE. There's nothing pretentious about this place. I went to a place before that was like 3 times what they charge for here and it was kind of bougie and not the vibes I really care for.Sunny was super sweet and precious. She's knowledgeable and makes you feel comfortable. It's good to come with an idea of what you want (and I definitely knew what I wanted already), but if you don't, she'll definitely help you through the process and make sure you're going to be happy with what you're getting!!! You have a choice of a stud or ring for cartilage as long as there's room for swelling/healing to happen, they'll let you know if you're picking the right thing :) I was super excited that 16 gauge rose gold rings were available because that's EXACTLY what I wanted!!! It was meant to be :D I also loved how excited she was after she was done with my piercing and how much she loved it/thought it was super cute. You can tell she enjoys what she does and it makes you feel good/great that you got something that makes your piercer happy!!I'll definitely be back for another piercing once these heal up!Parking tip: they have a lot in the back, but I made a mistake pulling in, it was full. This is my go to spot for piercings. Came with my bf originally to have a piercer change my tragus piercing. My bf and I decided that we wanted to get our ears re-pierced. Sunny showed us to the back room and she went to work.She was very pleasant and easy going. It turns out, we did not have to re-pierce our ears; instead Sunny helped us re-open the piercings. The whole process was quick and painless and the price was great. Came to My Tattoo for my first ink after hearing countless friends raving about the place. I couldn't be any happier than to listen to my friends! I came in around 1pm for some inquiries and was able to make an appointment with Duy for 8pm! I already had a design that I handed off to him and trusted him to do any retouches he needed to make everything go as easily and smooth as possible. I made an appointment with Lucy for a consultation in Huntington Beach. She changed her schedule and didn't let me know. So I traveled over an hour for nothing. I really wanted a beautiful flower tattoo done by her though so I rescheduled and went to the LA location. I had Lucy tattoo a lotus on my back and, while it is beautiful, it isn't what I hoped for. I even called her when I got home and asked her when she could finish it since it was really only one color with white highlights. She told me to live with it for a while and to let her know if I wanted more color added to it. I called her and sent her a text asking her to add the color I had originally asked for but she just ignored me. Never heard from her again. She's an amazing artist, but only when she wants to be. Her customer service sucks. I have to find someone else now to fix the tattoo I have and to do the next floral piece I want to get. I'd love for it to be done by her, but she doesn't give a crap. Artist Jess Yen(?) looks like he has a good portfolio out of the 3 peeps I was able to look at. 2 stars for not allowing me to stay with a kid (in his stroller sleeping) to just look at the portfolios. One guy gives me the ok to look at the portofios n he did tell me about having a kid here, but since it was just looking, he let me continue. Some other guy  then after 10-15 mins, who already witnessed the Ok, says that I can't have my kid here n needs me to leave.. Make up ur mind.  Safety? whatever dudes. You may have high ratings but that's just being able to get ur customers to kiss up to u in exchange for some extras or discounts. The art sells? not if the ppl r punks.You lost a customer that would pay $$$$ for good ink.. but service, attitude, n non-unified perspectives is key. U don't have analyse from me. My sister came in for her first tattoo with Kashu Horishin. I liked how he made sure that the size of the tattoo was appropriate for placement. I also liked how he made sure that it was centered. It felt reassuring when another artist made sure that the stencil was ok and ready to go. He walked her through all the steps and reassured her the whole way through. I appreciated the fact that he didn't get annoyed with me while I was with her taking pictures, videos, and snap chats of her first experience. Personally, I've never been here before, but we've passed by this place for years and decided to give it a try since my brother didn't want to go Claire's. Service is great here! When you walk in, someone greets you! They're all super friendly.  The earlobe piercing came out to be $27, because there was a 10% for checking in.  They don't provide or sell any aftercare/ cleaning solution/ sea salt spray for your ears, so you'd have to go get that elsewhere or make your own. That'd be my only complaint, but Alex was super super patient with us. He even got a second person/co-worker to double check his markings before piercing it. He was easy to talk to and made the process less fearful for my brother who was actually really scared hah!The parking is kind of hidden. You have to be on the same side of the street to see it. This review is long overdue and although it's been a while since I've been here for any new ink, I've been coming to My Tattoo since 2003, when I got my first tattoo done by Man. I always remember what he said which was "you'll be back they all come back" (I have 14 total) since then up til about 2013 I've been tattooed here by many of the artists here. Milton (who's no longer there) to Andy and Jess (the owner) everyone has a different style but in the end it's all quality tattoos and definitely worth the money (and wait if any) and reasonable. It's definitely a very laid back chill  positive vibes type of environment here which is awesome. Another cool thing is no matter who you pick as your artist, they (whoever is working) all look on each other work sometimes getting any ideas of input before and during from start to finish per tattoo. Man is THE man! I walked in spontaneously last week originally asking for Lucy but she was booked till 2018. Man had an availability open and his work looked really great as well so I just went ahead and booked him.I was low key (okay high key) freaking out since this was my first tattoo(s) and I didn't know if I was supposed to have gotten a sketch of what I wanted first before leaving the parlor. So, I went back 2 days after and he reassured me that he wouldn't ink something I didn't like and that he would do sketches right before the session. Come day of, I texted him saying I was running a few minutes late and he said it was fine, sketching my potential tattoos in the meantime. He gave me his opinions and helped me figure out where I wanted my two mini tattoos and transferred them onto the areas so I could see what it would look like. In the end, I went with his suggestions and am really glad I did... Man really took his time and made sure I was satisfied. Man even had me show the other artists that were in before and after commencement of the tattoos to make sure that they look great/has enough approval. He also has a good sense of humor and chatted with me throughout so I felt really at ease and comfortable (important to distract from the pain). 5 stars only for the free aftercare! I'm just kidding, lol. This place is great. Everyone is SO FRIENDLY! I messaged the business through Yelp, and received a response in the next two days. Since I requested for Man, he messaged me back. All it took was a simple phone call, and my appointment was set up for the next week! It probably wouldn't be that soon if it was a bigger tattoo though. The moment I walked in, I felt so welcomed! I was greeted and instructed to fill in a consent form. After the form, Man started talking to me about the design and instantly started designing. Since it was a simple constellation tattoo, similar to ones he's done before, he finished designing in about 20 minutes. Ok, since I'm a little chicken shit, I freaked out the moment I started hearing the buzz of the machine. He jokingly said, "Ok, I'm going to do a dot first. Lucy is an amazing artist BUT they rip u off!! After waiting 6 months for an appointment and a $100 deposit, I walked out with no ink! My original drawing was emailed months ahead of time, then a few days before n yet after 45 mins she tellsMe she can't find'm. Another 2 hrs later she shows me a "sketch" of my original art which she made her own n now looks nothing like what I want. She seemed bothered by my request of not changing anything n insists on making it bigger which would take more time and at $300 per hr it would require $2,800. When the original deal was $1,200. After an extensive search for an artist that specializes in Asian Realism I contacted My Tattoo approximately 2-3 years ago to set up a consultation appointment. Andy responded promptly and made the meeting happen with Jess. Why did I decide to have a tattoo by Jess Yen? Simple, I want the best. Years later I am still coming to the shop roughly 4-6 times a year to finish my piece, which is coming beautifully. Residing in San Francisco makes it somewhat difficult at times ho...wever I always try to make it when there is an opening whether it is at the shop in Alhambra, Huntington Beach, or a convention. Not only is the environment very relaxed the people are amazing. The entire shop- Man, Lucy, Andy, Kohei, Mario, Damien, Alex, Will, Duy are all extremely welcoming and ridiculously talented. Came in and told them I wanted a naval piercing and I went straight to filling out consent forms and whatnot. They're super informative and reassuring and I felt at ease. Duy helped me and he was calm and super nice and funny. He introduced himself to me and explained step by step everything he was going to do and as he was doing it. He asked if I was nervous and reassured me that everything will be okay! I really liked how he did the whole "breathe in, breathe out" method and it really helped me not think of the pain at all. I know some places just say something else and I prefer for the other way. I RECOMMEND DUY!!! He's super nice and reassuring. I came here to get finish my tattoo from Duy. It came as no surprise, but the service is impeccable. Everyone is helpful and everyone seemed very knowledgeable. From start to finish, they gave me the run down of how it was going to be to aftercare. All artist are friendly and will strike random conversations with you to give it a "home-like" feeling. OMG......went to this place by chance to get my daughter a navel piercing. The guys were so friendly and welcoming. They made us feel comfortable and at home. Man was great he did the piercing and my daughter was so happy. Happy 16th baby! Man even have her a stud for her birthday. He even put it in her ear. Who does that????? WOW what a great guy. i didn't come here for a tattoo. I got a cute piercing on my cartilage. LOLI had my cartilage pierced by Kristina a few years ago. She was very informative, descriptive, and helpful. I was intimidated but it didn't hurt at all. I was concerned about the healing process because multiple people i personally spoke with experienced and still experience pain from their piercings.  She filled me in on why that happens. Many people get their cartilage pierced with a gun which induces blunt trauma and may even crack your cartilage. It explains why many people have difficulties with their piercings.... so... hmm please don't go to Claire's.. come here! Read Less

I've wanted a tattoo ever since I was in high school but never had the guts to do it. There was this one time I went in to tattoo shop, talked to the tattoo artist, made an appointment and I ended up flaking. During the spring break of my senior year in college, I was visiting my friend, who has like 5+ tattoos, in LA. After constant encouragement from her, I decided that it's finally time to get what I've always wanted! Also she said if I get one she'll get another one with me too.I wanted to get the Chinese character 樂 (in calligraphy), which means happiness and also happens to be in my Chinese name. I was very picky about where to go and specified that I wanted to go somewhere Asian, either Japanese or Chinese, because I wanted them to know the language. I once went to a tattoo shop with the character printed out on a piece of paper to get a quote. I handed the paper to the tattoo artist and he didn't know which side was up or down!!Anyway, we found My Tattoo on yelp with good reviews and decided to give it a try. When we were at the door, we were greeted by Man. We found out that he did a lot of Chinese calligraphy before and he is also Taiwanese. Also, he was really chill and funny so I trusted him completely. However, I was having a hard time deciding where to get my tattoo and actually kind of freaking out because this was a big deal to me. He was really patient and didn't rush me or made me feel like I was being annoying. Finally I decided on a spot and Man worked his magic and he was done in 15 minutes! Talk about skills! I look at my tattoo every day thinking to myself, this was a really good decision that I will never regret! My friend also got a tattoo from Man like she promised and we were both really satisfied with his work. Before I got my tattoo, I actually visited a lot of different tattoo shops and most of the them are pretty intimidating. My Tattoo wasn't like that at all. The atmosphere was really friendly, probably because Man was really funny. All in all, I highly recommend My Tattoo in general and Man specifically! We came here because of the yelp reviews and we especially liked that the owner/tattoo artist was Taiwanese, like me and my friend. Upon entering the shop, we immediately were greeted by Man, who later tattooed me and my friend. He was super friendly, really funny, and helped my friend (who was a tattoo virgin) decide where her first tattoo should be. He was indeed very experienced and knew what he was doing. I got a dinosaur tattoo and he offered to add some watercolor behind so it would look more unique. As for my friend, she got a Chinese character in calligraphy. Man had done a lot of tattoos in the similar style and he made my friends tattoo look very sophisticated. Overall, the staff here was friendly and the service was incredible. This tattoo shop made my first tattoo experience an unforgettable one.My Piece: Alaskan polar bear wearing a native headdress with feathers over three roses (I was born/raised in Alaska and the three roses represent my siblings because even though they hurt me at times, I still love them).The Artist: Man Yao is my tattoo artist who made my experience amazing so far. By giving him artistic freedom, he was able to translate my sister's original design into a master piece. He has a lot of experience and proposed great ideas to make my piece extraordinary. We are three sessions into my piece and have made great progress. Aside from his talent, Man has great hosting skills. He goes out of his way to ensure that his clients are comfortable. He is very social and even talks to my friends and family who are visiting. Every session feels like a hangout, which helps take my mind off the pain while getting inked.The Shop: Built on respect, which I really admire. I found them at the LA Tat Expo. I saw Lucy's work, amazing. I got lucky and got an appointment a few weeks later (she normally has 6 month wait). I told her the general idea of what I wanted, a tulip with cherry blossoms. After seeing her portfolio, I left the design completely in her hands. She asked a few questions, even explained the meaning behind different flowers, really made sure I would like it. I got it on my foot, and oh my, that's a painful spot! And I wasn't the 'ideal' customer, I sqirmed and flinched, it was hard to stay still. But Lucy was so patient, and sweet. Man and Christina were there also, and when they weren't busy with customers they came over to help. Everyone made me feel so comfortable. And even though I was squirming, Lucy didn't skimp on the details, she's a perfectionist. The art is beautiful itself, and the detail she did make it really pop. It's not the typical flower tattoo, it's so realistic. - Take a look at her work and you'll see what I mean. I am SO happy with it! - It's so much better than I dreamed. LOVE IT!
