This is a double review, for myself and my husband (who isn't on fb). Billy did each of our tattoos a month ago and out of all the tattoos we each have (which is a LOT), his are by FAR our favorite. Billy is a true artist and has such a broad range of style and creativity. Great place.  Brian is a sweet and gentle person with an incredible sense of humor.  It got me through 3 straight hours of fire.  He worked with me for a good month, just trying to help me figure out what I wanted for my piece--he asked good questions, made good points and was incredibly patient.  His final design ended up being so much more than I expected--it's incredible.  I'd recommend this shop in a heartbeat.  The energy is just plain good. I stumbled upon Alameda Tattoo purely on accident... best accident ever!I was looking to get a very small tattoo done just as an addition to one I already had, but I also use my smaller tattoos as a means of browsing for an artist that I want to work with for a larger piece that I am planning. I happened to find Brian's portfolio online and was impressed with his work so I decided to try to make a drop-in appointment. When I got there Brian was working on another customer but he said he could squeeze me in later in the day. The shop makes an immediate good impression--it's clean, organized, and just a generally relaxed atmosphere with GREAT music.Brian did a great job making me feel comfortable and was unbelievably patient while I adjusted and re-adjusted the placement. Once he started working he was quick, efficient, and was good about checking in to make sure everything was OK. We chatted while he was working and I mentioned I had another older tattoo (text & image) that was ugly and mangled since the original guy that did it did a HORRIBLE job. After Brian finished the work I originally came in for, he took one look at my older tattoo and said he would be happy to fix it for no extra charge. After seeing what a great job he did fixing the lettering, I asked him to clean up the image as well.It all turned out BEAUTIFULLY and I almost cried I was so happy to finally love having my old tattoo on my body again. So I guess Yelp isn't a great method to choose a tattoo artist ... you've gotta get the word of mouth quotient taken care of and check out the artist's work so you're familiar with what style they specialize in, and all that important stuff.BUT if you're considering Alameda Tattoo I would go for it, no doubt.The studio itself is so comfortable and clean and won't make you nervous or feel like you've come through like a revolving door. It's got an enormous amount of beautiful artwork hanging everywhere so you have something to look at when you're sitting.  And maybe it's just me but I really appreciate how they make sure the thermostat is just right. Nothing worse than shivering or sweating when you're sitting there unclothed, trying to remain perfectly still.Reed, the artist who did my work, was just amazing. Looking back I probably did far too much 'art-directing' when he was figuring out my cover-up. I should have just let him go for it, because those parts turned out stellar. But he was so patient and friendly and never made me feel like I was being too demanding. He kept saying, "It's going to be on YOUR body, so you should feel OK telling me what you want."  And I must emphasize again how beautiful the work came out. Just f*cking gorgeous. Alameda tattoo is a great little shop. I shopped around the East Bay for three months before settling with Brian. He's an amazing artist and is probably my current favorite individual that's tattooed me. He's very laid back, focused, and has a good eye for original work or twerqing something to look just right. He did a rather large piece on my back in October that I love. I plan to have Brian do more work on me.
