Chipp (Aaron Byrd) had been the definitive artist for all of my fiancé's, my local friend's, and my own tattoos for just around 8 years now and up until a few days ago I did not see that changing...
However at this point I would absolutely never recommend anyone to trust in his professionalism or ethics in any way. He is notorious for canceling appointments last minute, booking personal friends into your appointments and letting you know hours before your appointment, and choosing to never return emails, text messages or phone calls. He has now also chosen to cancel a project that he took a $150 deposit for and there was no follow through for the better part of the last year and states that my deposit is non-refundable...even though HE has chosen to not follow through after numerous cancellations on his end.
In the midst of that situation (prior to letting me know that he was keeping my deposit and never had intentions of completing the job) he also posted some art for sale on Instagram in which I expressed an interest to purchase. He set a price and requested immediate payment via a digital method, I sent payment and discussed meeting at the shop to pick up the art and get a solid appointment for the tattoo project, he let me know what time he would be around the next day and we left it at that. I awoke to a string of messages where he explained that he now had no intention of selling me the art, was not returning my money or deposit, and that I had no reason to meet up with him?!?!
In the past he has generally chosen to be decently high/intoxicated at appointments and that demeanor only increased with him being part of the opening/management staff at Colossus to the point where you can expect multiple "smoke" breaks out of the back of the shop during your appointment session. Normally it's to each their own but there are limits to that and the sheer lack of professionalism in such regards shouldn't exist when you are handling clients and charging them for your time.
This shop itself is full of amazing artists, Chipp... included, that can perform some unbelievably fantastic work but any business can only be as strong as the person/people at the helm and the decisions they make. Years of loyalty were met with deceit, disrespect, and in the end absolute and intentional theft. If that is how a longtime patron is treated under this management good luck on not finding yourself hurting to a horrible scenario all your own. There are better, more trustworthy and professional shops in the valley, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Read Less
