I wrote a previous review about this shop, but I took it down because it does not do justice to the service I have since received at this shop. The one thing I have to say about this place that is actually negative is that the tattooer named Jake is not very reliable and his work is disappointing. I had been in contact with him for two weeks before my appointment to get a custom piece in September of 2017. He said he had the artwork drafted, but he had nothing ready to go for my appointment and I must have been in the shop for 2 hours before I even got to sit in the chair. The tattoo healed poorly and it ended up looking awful.However, I do still love this shop because the owner, Lloyd is a great man who is talented, funny, and goes above and beyond to make sure all of his customers are happy. When I posted my first review and pictures of the bad tattoo, Lloyd reached out to me and insisted that I come in to have him cover it up, free of charge. We communicated for about a week and a half before my appointment to make sure we were both on the same page, and he took great care of me when I actually came in to get my cover-up. I am incredibly happy with how it looks and Lloyd has made it very clear that I should keep in touch as it finishes healing to ensure that we can touch it up if it needs it. We walked into their shop on a Saturday night inquiring about a tattoo for my husband and a ring tattoo that needed to be retouched.  I must say of any past experiences in getting inked, this has been the worse.  The guy that helped us was very rude, his name is Jake, talked us against doing the ring we wanted on his finger, said that it would not look good, since the picture we showed him looked good because it was fresh, he said he wouldn't recommend it.  My husband requested a second tattoo on his arm, he showed him the cross he was wearing and the cross in the hat he had on that night, he gave him a quote asking him for a $60 deposit to book the appointment, we set up an appointment that same night for next Monday with the agreement that he was going to sketch something for him based on what we've provided.A week had gone by, and last Thursday, we have a friend who is a graphic artist and he had created some artwork for us with the cross we wanted. The symbols on the cross are native american and the meaning on it represents a big part of our lives.   My husband contacted Jake to let him know we had some artwork for him to preview since the appointment was approaching for this Monday.  He had no problem according to the conversation when he called him back on Friday,  since Thursdays and Sundays are his days off, he was also going to provide some art so we could compare and decide what looked best all via text messages.  I believe this is very important and he MUST like it since it was going to be on his skin for the rest of his life.My husband sent him  a text Friday night at 7:00 PM asking how the artwork was coming, he responded he was already home that night and that he would be sending the art on Saturday morning.We did not receive any artwork from Jake, and since the appointment was today, my husband texted him yesterday apologizing for being Sunday and being a holiday, and he responded saying it was Easter Sunday and he was with family, which that is understandable,there was no problem at all.The day of doing the ink arrived, Jake provided my husband with a penciled cross that was probably done on the same morning, he proceeded to tell him that he did not appreciate so many texts and calls, that he did not treat him with respect. That his text on Sunday disrupted the time he was spending with his kid and made him think about work.   Jake was hostile and had a very bad attitude towards my husband.I AM SORRY, but he is providing a service, if he did not want to be called on his personal cell phone, then do not provide it to any of his customers, Also, besides the times my husband contacted him were not that many, he was not professional at all.  My business is to serve the customers and provide them with the best quality service there is to their satisfaction, that is exactly how we expect to be treated from any other business provider.  Needless to say, he would not even return to us the $60 deposit claiming that it was nonrefundable for a service not provided.Any of the reviews we see here on YELP, are good but as we can see, there are other artists mentioned not Jake.  I guess, all these customers were lucky not having him.We had several tattoos done for us in the past and this is the first time we encounter someone unwilling to work with us, just to get it out of the way.We will not recommend Gypsy Rose to any of our friends, sorry for the other talented artists that might be there and are proud of their work and talents. When looking for an artist for the first time, most tattoo shops can be intimidating and unwelcoming if you don't know anyone. Gypsy Rose is NOTHING like that! From the moment you walk through the door, all of the artists greet you in an open and professional manner, ready to answer any questions you might have. The shop is clean and comfortable and it doesn't feel weird to just sit and look through the artists' books. ALL of the artists are pleasant to deal with and help every step of the way. Each artist has his/her own style, and one is not afraid to introduce the other if they feel that a certain artist may fit the style/design better than the other because they want you to love your tattoo(s). I, personally, love Lloyd's style of work, but they all are so talented and create beautiful pieces and/or help you come up with a tattoo that you may have been envisioning, bringing it to life on skin. Additionally, they make sure that you are comfortable throughout the tattoo process and try to make it as painless as possible. Compared to other shops, Gypsy Rose's prices are incredibly reasonable. This place was recommended by a tattoo artist on hiatus.  After looking at the books on line, I chose Sam to do my tat.  I am 67, so I need someone who takes my skin into consideration.  Sam is amazing and fast!  He came up with the art from my rather sketchy description and exceeded my expectations.  I really like the atmosphere at Gypsy Rose.  Everyone is friendly and welcoming and there seems to be a really good vibe among the artists in residence.  It is impeccably clean and airy.  Can't wait for this puppy to heal so I can get the next one! I was referred to Lloyd to clean up a bad tattoo I got in Vegas.  When I went in he wisely advised the tattoo was not healed enough so I asked him if he could do a new tattoo on my other arm.  All I can say is Lloyd is an amazing artist.  He took my very basic idea and created a tattoo that I never could have imagined.  From just talking to me, observing my jewelry and the various pictures I showed him he brought to life a tattoo that represents the wonderful things my grandparents gave me - my grandfather gave me a love of appaloosa horses and both of my grandmother's gave me a love of Native American jewelry.  Without telling Lloyd this he put both of my greatest memories of my grandparents into my tattoo.  Thank you Lloyd - you are amazing. They managed this past Friday the 13th very well and despite the long line I got in and out fairly quickly with two awesome tattoos! Came here for a Friday the 13th tattoo, a very spontaneous trip to a tattoo shop as I am still fairly new to this state. Found this place on Yelp and thought I'd give it a try. I stalked them on Instagram of course before I came here lol. And I was impressed at some of the work I saw. When I got here the line wasn't too long, I was impressed at their flash sheet the tattoos where pretty good in size for the 20$ charge. Customer service is great they seemed to have a good system going on since it was busy! Staff is super friendly with an edge obviously it is a tattoo shop lol. I went on Friday The 13th for their $13 special because I had been craving a new tattoo for quite some time. Needless to say they were super busy and despite constantly being interrupted by people who wanted to know when they would get their turn they remained very polite and professional. I showed up around 6:30 PM and filled out my paper work and when 9PM came around, I became one of the annoying people and asked where my place was in line because I wanted to get something to eat, they gladly told me that I had plenty of time. So I left and returned a little over an hour later. Around 11PM they called my name and I was greeted by Mark who, despite doing $13 tattoos for who knows how many hours, was in high spirits and thanked me for my patience and for waiting multiple times. I was happy I was getting a tattoo so I didn't care how long I had to wait. After 15 minutes it was over and not only do I have a great tattoo of a cactus, but I got a chance to watch the latest season of Trailer Park Boys while I was waiting. I followed Lexy to Gypsy Rose when she left Golden Rule. I get tattooed by her at least once a month, and every experience has been awesome. I didn't know anything about Gypsy Rose before she moved there, but it's a great shop. Everyone that works there is super friendly and skilled.I probably have a couple of dozen hours of needle time with Lexy, and she never fails to make sure I'm good with the process start to finish. She's honest with her time, her feedback, and has great ideas to incorporate into what you want. She's light handed, does awesome shave jobs, and gives awesome tattoo rub downs after your tattoo is finished. I have recommended her to everyone I know.If you read and can comprehend the review by "Samy M." you shouldn't take it seriously. He seems like a very sensitive soul searching for his place in the world, and it definitely does not reflect on the professionalism, work, or "hutzpah" [sic] of anyone at the shop.Also, if you write a 1-star Yelp review complaining that you had to wait for your $13 Friday the 13th tattoo you're a nitwit.Bottom line: Gypsy Rose is a solid shop, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lexy or any of the artists there to any of my friends or family. Lexy is my tattoo artist and I followed her to Gypsy Rose Tattoo this year. From day one she was professional and personable. She made sure to understand what I wanted and translate that into amazing artwork. I've been lucky to be tattooed by her five times and each time I've been extremely pleased with her interpretation of my idea. She makes sure that I know what can be done in the time we have, the potential level of discomfort, and that during the process that I'm comfortable as can be. This new shop is clean and nice. My husband and I have been coming to Gypsy Rose for a couple years now. We originally followed an artist from another shop, but were so impressed with the shop and the people, we stayed when our artist moved. The Friday the 13th special they do does require a little patience, as they've only gotten more and more popular, but it's worth the wait. They always have great flash and it's always a fun atmosphere. And once you get into the chair, you have the artist's full attention. You don't feel like just another cheap tattoo.All the artists have been great. We love Mark and are looking forward to getting work done with Phil and Lexi as well. Three weeks ago I went in and talked to Lloyd about my idea for a tattoo.  Gave him 40 to set an appointment and he said I should have a draft of the art by the end of the week.  Two weeks later I sent one email asking when he thought I could see a draft to which he replied "you'll probably see it on Saturday" (the day of the appointment)So why the jerk response?  And I lose my 40 when he didn't uphold his end of the bargain? I came in and got tattooed by Lloyd who is literally one of the nicest guys around. I called just hoping for a consultation and ended up being a walk-in that same day. This was my first time being there, and it's a nice, clean shop. I came in right after work and was a little concerned because I wore a dress that hits well above my knees and was going to be getting a traditional butterfly tattooed on my the back of my calf. Basically, I wasn't wearing the most appropriate outfit to be laying on my stomach in. Before I even had a chance to say anything he already had a sheet brought in and kept me covered while I laid down and he tucked me in snug as a bug to make sure I was well covered. Never once did I feel uncomfortable. My tattoo came out perfect and was just what I was looking for. Clean lines, and bold color. As they say, bold will hold. And if your tattooer is recommending an outline on your tattoo, they are doing you a favor and you will be thanking them in 10 years. Just saying. Read Less

I've been contemplating to review this place. I got a few tattoos from Lloyed (all the same day) very nice gentleman, but my art wasn't. I'm very unsatisfied with his work and his hand was so heavy, I've gotten tattooed before so I can say his hand was heavy on the art. My tattoo outline leaked out of the outline and not to mention he stated that all his tattoos need to have the black outline because the color will "leak without an outline or break" can't remember verbatim but basically it happened with the lady bugs he tatted. Mind you I was asking for tattoos without the black outline as I do have some without it which never leaked! (Ironically)I wouldn't let him tattoo me again. I'll have to find a good artist to fix my tattoos. He also had a visitor that day in the shop and Took his lovely time chit chatting away in the room While I was getting tatted and mind you one of my tattoos was in my side and a little behind my thigh and I had to laid down side ways to get tatted and not once did he ask me if I was ok for his friend to be there while I laid there with my dress up trying cover myself as much as possible since his visitor was sitting right behind me talking away which had me in a uncomfortable situation. Tattoos are very personal and opinions vary of what's a great tattoo. So I won't delve too much in my opinions of what's good. What you should look for in a studio is cleanliness and courtesy.  Gypsy Rose is by far one of the cleanest and well set up spots in AZ.  There are studios that have that "too cool for school" mentality.  Not Gypsy. The artists are not a bunch of elitists. They cater to the first time walk ins to the full on customs.  Not have I only received multiple tattoos from the artists available, I have become friends with all of them. I have more tattoos in my future and will no doubt continue to support one of the raddest studios in Phoenix. Read Less
