If tattoos are your thing and you haven't at least considered this shop, you're messing up badly. If anything, all of the awards and word of mouth surrounding this place should be enough to convince you wholesale that this is where you want to get your next tattoo. I've had 3 pieces done by Golden Rule artists and if I could give them more than five stars I would gladly.Back when I was getting mediocre tattoos this shop was name dropped by somebody and it sat in the back of my head for a while. A few years later I had the money and decided to go to the camelback location and get something done that I wanted. Walked in, was consulted by Cerny, one of their artists, and two weeks later got exactly what I wanted. The whole process was painless and the artist and desk person both made me feel incredibly welcome. Then a year after that I got in touch with Kyle at the Roosevelt shop and he's done two pieces for me which are the pictures I've attached.The biggest strength of Golden Rule is their stable of artists. Odds are somebody is going to specialize in the style you want if you're that kind of person, or if you're newer to the tattoo game somebody can guide you towards a good piece. I'm keen on the Japanese style myself so that's why I worked with Kyle. Just do your diligence when it comes to looking at portfolios and you won't be disappointed.My score is mostly based off of the work I've gotten done here. It's great waking up every day knowing that I have some beautiful tattoos that are uniquely mine. That's why I recommend this place more than anything else in Phoenix relative to what services it provides. The customer service has always been excellent, so I can't knock them for that. I called Golden Rule Tattoo, because I wanted to make an appointment to get a tattoo done. I had a couple of artists picked out, but when I called it was like I was stupid for calling, let alone asking if two of their artists might be available. The girl on the phone said I could try to come in anyway today, so I did. As soon as I walked in, I felt very unwelcome and it was like they couldn't wait to get rid of me. The girl at the front desk took down my number and wrote down the tattoo I wanted, saying they would call me. After waiting two hours, I called another shop and was excitedly welcomed to come in right away. I will never come back to Golden Rule Tattoo again. I had my first tattoo done here which is the bird and my second just finished today. I absolutely love them and the detail that was put into both. The staff were friendly and inviting unlike this other place I was originally going to go to. The shop is clean and really shows they take pride in keeping it clean and sterilized. I've had several people compliment my tattoos and how detailed they are. The artist I went to is now leaving but I will continue to go here because of my experiences with them. The prices are extremely reasonable considering the time and effort they put into their work. If you want cheap prices expect a cheap looking tattoo. Been getting tattoos here for the last 4ish years, and every artist- at least when working with me- has been professional and friendly. I refer anyone I know interested in getting a tattoo to Golden Rule. They're clean, professional, talented, and engaging. I always have a good experience. Some helpful tips for customers: 1) Be respectful. Understand that they take their job seriously- and it *is* a job. They can turn you and your request down, and you don't get to be jerk about it. 2) Be prepared to pay. As stated above, this is their job, they work hard and deserve to be fairly compensated. 3) Know what you want. They're not mind readers, so have at least a basic description of what you're looking for. 4) You should schedule in advance- walk ins happen, but don't have your heart set on it. 5) Each artist has a portfolio available for viewing, and they really do help if you're looking for a specific style. Absolutely love the shop on Roosevelt! Great artists, great front desk! Everyone is very nice, kind, helpful. They listen to your ideas work with you on times and have great ideas! FIRSTLY, the owner Jason bought me a coffee and gave me tickets to go see a show coming up. Just because. Places don't do stuff like that anymore. People don't even do stuff like that anymore, so it felt special and I knew things were going to be just alright, or even better. There is definitely a relaxed Vibe about the shop and I felt incredibly comfortable, at home and able to be myself. As far as the artwork I am more than impressed to say the least. Not only was Mikey, my artist, an all-around nice and genuine guy, he does incredible work - but really. Just take my advice and all the time and effort I went into locating a truly unique artist and get tour tattoo with Mikey. I put a lot of effort into finding a creative enough mind, someone with an essence, to capture my thoughts and emotions and craft them into art on my skin...I would totally say he hit the nail on the head. Evan did my cover up, he booked me in two hours on a Friday night (which I was extremely grateful for)!  I had this tattoo of a cross on my forearm for years that I've been waiting to cover up, he did a neo traditional lantern over it.The Tattoo was perfect and a great start for additions in the future. I got my first tattoo from Wyatt. He was super nice and walked me through the process. He told me my design needed to be bigger to avoid blow out. I didn't care, what do you know. I got blow out. I should have listened to his professional advice. Good news is that I am able to have free touch ups with this shop. I went to him again  for my second tattoo and it is soooooo fresh! The line work is amazing! I'm impressed. He retouched my first tattoo as well in the same appointment. At first I was upset with my second tattoo because my appointment was at five and everything was running behind, so I ended up waiting another hour and a half before even being told I was next. This is not how Wyatt rolls, and for that reason he gave me my tattoo on the house to apologize for the time that I spent waiting. Now that is putting the customer first. I will come back to golden rule and Wyatt again. Also, looking into brown ink tattoos, no one in the shop specializes in it so they recommended other artists at other shops. They care about me getting the best work, even if that means they don't get the job. I admire that. Read Less

I walked in during the December First Friday, looking to get a small memorial tattoo for a beloved pet. I worked with Evan on my idea-a little ray of sunshine. He drew up a couple quick sketches, and I picked my favorite.  He gave me some advice on placement in the area I wanted on my wrist, which I took, and then he began to work. The tattoo itself isn't huge, so it didn't take him more than 20 minutes to ink. He did a great job with the tattoo, and he is the first male to tattoo me that didn't use a heavy hand. I love my little ray of sunshine so much, it's one of my favorite tattoos, and I have ten. I would definitely go back to Evan, and Golden Rule. There's a reason why this place is so popular! I had to wait over a month after my consultation but it was so worth it. Mikey's design of the phoenix watercolor that I so badly wanted went above and beyond my expectations. He put so much thought and detail into making every line and every bit of color perfect. I emailed her to ask if she could do a certain tattoo for me, I sent in some reference pictures and a brief description of what I would want it to look like and she did not disappoint. This place is the best place to get a tattoo!! This was my first tattoo and I was really nervous and they were all super nice and helped calm me down. I had Mark and I was actually about to pass out during my tattoo due to the lack of sugar and anxiety and luckily Mark caught it quick and was able to help me not pass out by giving me candy and cooling me down by putting water on my neck. I've only been to the Camelback location but I love this place.  The shop is clean and has a great vibe.  The artists are extremely talented.  I have only had Paulski do a couples sessions-pieces on me, but I wouldn't hesitate to use any other artists in that shop.  WARNING: you may want to get new pieces done every three to four weeks, like me. On top of the surplus of talented artist, you'll find that everyone is friendly, informative and knowledgeable. Found this shop off of yelp then of course hit up Instagram to see some of the artist work. I decided to go with Mickey I sent him an email and in less than 24 hours he got back to me. Went into the shop for a consultation and set up my appointment and from there I knew I made a great decision. When the day came go get my tattoo I was a little nervous but everyone who I talked to in the shop was extremely nice! It was easy to have a conversation and get comfortable. Felt like shit all day and wanted to do something impulsive. I called down to the shop and explained what I wanted and I was able to get an appointment the day of luckily. I got there and was greeted very warmly and met with the artist Morgan Gatekeeper. She was amazing and worked with me to achieve the best result. I wanted a simple lightening bolt in honor of Patti Smith, cliché don't care, and Morgan had no qualms about it. Usually copying someone's tattoo is a no no but since it's a simple design and in honor of someone that I admire, it went over well. The process was quick and I love it! I was even sent home with a little at home kit that contained aftercare products. I thought that was a nice touch. I'll definitely be back in the future. I emailed Jess on a Sunday and was able to set up a time with her on Tuesday. She took my reference and idea and drew up something for me. Loved it! Shop is very clean and Jess and Tara were super nice. They give you a nice little goodie bag when you leave (instructions, little sample of aquaphor, and a shop sticker, and business cards). I worked with Mikey to get a watercolor kaleidoscope rose tattoo done on my forearm. We met initially for a consult after I viewed some of his other watercolor work. I paid a $60 deposit that went towards the price of my tattoo. I went a couple weeks later, approved the final drawing, and we got to work. Mikey is awesome. I love his work. He's also a nice guy, professional, and fun to talk to while he works. Saw Bree Lin for my first tattoo ever and she was amazing. We had a great time chatting and she made me feel so comfortable. The shop is intimate and small and all of the artists are so friendly. Morgan happened to be there tattooing while I was getting tattooed, and she was so sweet and chatted with us as well. I cannot say enough positive things about Golden Rule - it was truly the best first tattoo experience I could ever have. I even started planning out my next one (or two or three) while Bree was tattooing me! I absolutely LOVE my tattoo. Came here with my wife who wanted a traditional rose tattooed on her wrist. She was set up with Paul, who is their "traditional" guy. He drew up the design really quickly. Someone  commented on his scribbling in a different review - he did that initial scribble to identify the size of the piece. That wasn't his actual drawing...so that person was dumb.  After he got the size and location identified he went back and drew a really nice design - see my photo for the design on my arm. Her tattoo only took ten minutes. Having spent longer waiting for the whole thing to get done I decided I should get a matching one, however I decided to get mine on my inner bicep, about 4x the size and colored in. What took 10 minutes on my wife took about 2 hours for me. Paul goes FAST - which is really nice, considering I hadn't been inked in a while, and that inner bicep hurt. I had a nice time chatting with some of the other folks in the shop. The owner Jason is a really cool guy, who is passionate about his clients, employees and the business. I was blown away by Stephanies work - her photo-realistic tattoos and paintings are awesome and I want to hire her to paint my dogs. She has some amazing dog paintings and I totally want a couple.
