Love this place!!! Was down in Phoenix for 3 months working. Spent most of my free time at this stop. Stephen was my artist and he gave me 4 amazing tattoos. One was a coverup and I was more than impressed with how it came out. His detail is on point!!! He does insanely good work and after going to him I would never go anywhere else. He is also one of the coolest, most real people you will ever meet. I STRONGLY suggest him!

I went there initially to get my first tattoo and got it from the owner was great which is why I went back but the second time horrible. The artist was Stephen and I really did not like his overall customer service was horrible originally when I went in the owner drew it out and made sure I liked the tattoo Steven on the other hand didnt even care about what I wanted and now I have a shitty tattoo wrong color and size and a horrible experience there, he did not ask me anything but went on about how many years experience he had, then why cant you do the tattoo I want. I wanted pink got purple I wanted something dainty got a huge ass character on my hand, really I suggest in the future if I am paying something I suggest listening or at least try to listen to what the customer wants before giving your own opinion. I did not want something that was noticeable and thats why I wanted to less noticeable color I am writing this not because I wanted to give a bad review but because I am so mad on how I was treated and talked to there and how rude Steven was and hopefully hes a better reader than listener because had he taken the time to listen to what I wanted maybe I couldve been a happier customer instead of an unsatisfied one having to life w a tattoo that couldve been what I wanted had he been less of a cocky SOB horrible service bad artist and overall bad experience.

The artist that worked on my design was Stephen Huntt, really cool guy and does great work. I walked in with no appointment just an idea and in under 3 hours I was in and out, he drew up the design went over it to make sure it was exactly what I wanted and made it happen... Nice people and good environment, real comfortable for a first time experience

My daughter took me to this studio when I wanted to get my semicolon tattoo. She had made an appointment with Alex and although he was busy when we got there Emma gave me the tattoo I wanted. It took no time at all. It was terrific. However, as it healed the bruising didn't go away. I assumed it was my age and the placement on my wrist but after contacting Alex he said to let him look since 2 months is a long time for a bruise. He checked it out and confirmed I had tatt...oo blowout which happens. He offered to fix it. After meeting with him to discuss idea I him add some color around the semicolon - teal for anxiety awareness, blue for depression awareness, red for my root chakra and purple because when I am an old woman I will wear purple. Love it! Alex was very quick and had a soft touch. The whole experience was great. I love looking at the flash and artwork. Seeing the artists sketching was amazing. I waited 11 years for my tattoo and finally decided this was the place for me! The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, the staff is amazing and overall just an amazing experience. I came here for my 1st tattoo and ended up getting a full sleeve done by Scott! I am more than pleased with the hard work that was put into my piece and the way they would have gone out of their way to make sure that I was comfortable. I'm already looking forward to more work!

Over the course of a couple of years, I've spent a lot of time in this shop, working on a traditional Japanese back piece. Each time I come in for work, I'm treated like family by Alex, the owner. He's caring, easy to talk to, receptive to my thoughts regarding the tattoo work we are doing, and is the ultimate professional and artistic talent. The other artists in the shop are also very friendly and awesome. There's always great music playing and good energy flowing throughout. I must also mention the importance of cleanliness when in this type of environment and the shop ALWAYS adheres to the industry standards of cleanliness and proper sanitation. I love Copper Sate Tattoo, I bring friends here and would recommend this place to anyone looking for solid work and an excellent tattoo experience.

She let a friend do it, and it was horrible. Alex got her in and they fixed the bad tattoo right away, a vast improvement!!The shop is super clean and they are all meticulous about sanitation. Everybody is friendly and professional. Although what we had done wasn't in the "creative" range, their traditional style stuff on the walls looks awesome.Definitely go see Alex and the guys at Copper State Tattoo!

This isn't your typical male ego driven shop, these are guys that love tattooing and are passionate about creating great art. You will witness a group of people that work amazingly well together and only want to see each other succeed. What this means is that for you, as the customer, you will feel at ease and secure that you are in capable hands. I have walked into many tattoo shops and have walked right back out just because the atmosphere is not one that I would want to be in during such a vulnerable time. Between the laid back atmosphere and amazing artists, this is just an undiscovered gem of a shop. I have spent countless hours being tattooed by Alex Empty, since we are working on a half body suit, and have come to look forward to my time on his table. I would not trust anyone with this much of my skin as I have come to trust Alex. Amazing as Alex is, I now want something from each of the artists in the shop. Everyone there is friendly, welcoming and extremely talented.

They're all amazing artists with a deep respect for the trade. I've known Alex for a few years now. He took on a sleeve for me that was a coverup of a coverup. It's coming along great. Also got an awesome clover tattoo by Jake. Having Avie start on a leg piece for me. That's how you know it's a great shop when you want to be tattooed by everyone there. This place feels like a second home. A second family. If you're looking for a new shop then definitely check this place out. You won't be disappointed.

I started getting tattooed by Alex back in 2005, when he was living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. Although I stumbled upon him randomly, his creativity, vision, and passion for tattooing kept me returning to him almost exclusively up until he left the Bay Area and returned to Phoenix 5 years ago. I have one full sleeve, a back piece, and numerous smaller tattoos from Alex and I could not be happier with every single one of them. My husband and I recently made the journey (finally!) out to Phoenix to see Alex and the new shop and to get some work done. We were both blown away by Copper State Tattoo- the ambience is relaxed yet professional, the guys are all super friendly and knowledgeable, and the walls are covered in beautiful artwork. It was a pleasure to get tattooed in such an environment.

I absolutely love Copper State. So far, I've had two pieces done by Alex. There is no one I trust more. These guys are incredibly down to earth with a passion for the craft. They believe in creating quality work that lasts. They really know how to position tattoos in ways that they will not distort as the body moves naturally. They are incredibly clean and professional artists.For my latest piece, I wanted something that reminded me of home. I told Alex the basic concept of what I was looking for. He drew up a quick sketch that really tied everything together in a way that far exceeded my expectations. I could not be happier with how it turned out. I knew I could trust Alex to create something incredible based on such a simple concept.The shop can be tricky to find that first time, but it's on the corner of Osborn and 7th Ave in a little strip of businesses behind a Cricket store and a Mexican restaurant.

Tired of the monster egos and attitudes in many of tattoo shops locally? I was, so I went here. They'd done some work on my friend, and it looked incredible. I just spent the last two days there, as Alex Empty (owner) is doing a very large japanese style back piece on me. He is amazing. The piece looks so good (understatement of the year), and I cannot wait for it to be finished. He's very detail oriented, he even wrote famous japanese artists with questions on seasons and the position of objects in my tattoo, caring about what is accepted and that my tattoo was done properly. He cares about the details, and his passion is definitely in this area. He's well traveled, and has studied it seriously. Japanese style is not the only type he does, but he's damn good at it. I got to know the other artists as well, since I spent so much time there this past weekend. They are all talented. On top of that, good people, good vibes, and they care about their craft. No one else is tattooing me. Ever. Go see them, talk to them about that tattoo you've been thinking about, and see if it's a good fit for you.

The hubby and I stopped in on a whim... aren't most tats are on a whimp right hahaHe needed to fix a monstrosity from a drunkin bad choice back in the day, and I needed to get my stamp of completing for my half marathon. Simple work for both of us. These guys were great. Their books looked good, they do a great job with covering old tattoos. They are very clean and have a nice work space. They haven't been around a long time so don't have a huge following that I can tell, but you should check them out. I will be back in two months when I get to get my 26.2 tat Yay!

I did not want something that was noticeable and thats why I wanted to less noticeable color I am writing this not because I wanted to give a bad review but because I am so mad on how I was treated and talked to there and how rude Steven was and hopefully hes a better reader than listener because had he taken the time to listen to what I wanted maybe I couldve been a happier customer instead of an unsatisfied one having to life w a tattoo that couldve been what I wanted had he been less of a cocky SOB horrible service bad artist and overall bad experience.

The artist that worked on my design was Stephen Huntt, really cool guy and does great work. I walked in with no appointment just an idea and in under 3 hours I was in and out, he drew up the design went over it to make sure it was exactly what I wanted and made it happen... Nice people and good environment, real comfortable for a first time experience

My daughter took me to this studio when I wanted to get my semicolon tattoo. She had made an appointment with Alex and although he was busy when we got there Emma gave me the tattoo I wanted. It took no time at all. It was terrific. However, as it healed the bruising didn't go away. I assumed it was my age and the placement on my wrist but after contacting Alex he said to let him look since 2 months is a long time for a bruise. He checked it out and confirmed I had tatt...oo blowout which happens. He offered to fix it. After meeting with him to discuss idea I him add some color around the semicolon - teal for anxiety awareness, blue for depression awareness, red for my root chakra and purple because when I am an old woman I will wear purple. Love it! Alex was very quick and had a soft touch. The whole experience was great. I love looking at the flash and artwork. Seeing the artists sketching was amazing. This is a really nice, clean and friendly local studio. See More

I waited 11 years for my tattoo and finally decided this was the place for me! The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, the staff is amazing and overall just an amazing experience. I came here for my 1st tattoo and ended up getting a full sleeve done by Scott! I am more than pleased with the hard work that was put into my piece and the way they would have gone out of their way to make sure that I was comfortable. I'm already looking forward to more work!

Over the course of a couple of years, I've spent a lot of time in this shop, working on a traditional Japanese back piece. Each time I come in for work, I'm treated like family by Alex, the owner. He's caring, easy to talk to, receptive to my thoughts regarding the tattoo work we are doing, and is the ultimate professional and artistic talent. The other artists in the shop are also very friendly and awesome. There's always great music playing and good energy flowing throughout. I must also mention the importance of cleanliness when in this type of environment and the shop ALWAYS adheres to the industry standards of cleanliness and proper sanitation. I love Copper Sate Tattoo, I bring friends here and would recommend this place to anyone looking for solid work and an excellent tattoo experience.

The artists offer multiple styles from classic Americana to Traditional Japanese Tebori (handpoke). I took my daughter for her first tattoo last weekend and she had a great experience.

Alex and the guys at CST are awesome! We went when they first opened on a Saturday morning, probably their busiest day, for some "rework" on a tattoo that my daughter had.... She let a friend do it, and it was horrible. Alex got her in and they fixed the bad tattoo right away, a vast improvement!!The shop is super clean and they are all meticulous about sanitation. Everybody is friendly and professional. Although what we had done wasn't in the "creative" range, their traditional style stuff on the walls looks awesome.Definitely go see Alex and the guys at Copper State Tattoo!

This isn't your typical male ego driven shop, these are guys that love tattooing and are passionate about creating great art. You will witness a group of people that work amazingly well together and only want to see each other succeed. What this means is that for you, as the customer, you will feel at ease and secure that you are in capable hands. I have walked into many tattoo shops and have walked right back out just because the atmosphere is not one that I would want to be in during such a vulnerable time. Between the laid back atmosphere and amazing artists, this is just an undiscovered gem of a shop. I have spent countless hours being tattooed by Alex Empty, since we are working on a half body suit, and have come to look forward to my time on his table. I would not trust anyone with this much of my skin as I have come to trust Alex. Amazing as Alex is, I now want something from each of the artists in the shop. Everyone there is friendly, welcoming and extremely talented.

They're all amazing artists with a deep respect for the trade. I've known Alex for a few years now. He took on a sleeve for me that was a coverup of a coverup. It's coming along great. Also got an awesome clover tattoo by Jake. Having Avie start on a leg piece for me. That's how you know it's a great shop when you want to be tattooed by everyone there. This place feels like a second home. A second family. If you're looking for a new shop then definitely check this place out. You won't be disappointed.

I started getting tattooed by Alex back in 2005, when he was living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. Although I stumbled upon him randomly, his creativity, vision, and passion for tattooing kept me returning to him almost exclusively up until he left the Bay Area and returned to Phoenix 5 years ago. I have one full sleeve, a back piece, and numerous smaller tattoos from Alex and I could not be happier with every single one of them. My husband and I recently made the journey (finally!) out to Phoenix to see Alex and the new shop and to get some work done. We were both blown away by Copper State Tattoo- the ambience is relaxed yet professional, the guys are all super friendly and knowledgeable, and the walls are covered in beautiful artwork. It was a pleasure to get tattooed in such an environment.

I absolutely love Copper State. So far, I've had two pieces done by Alex. There is no one I trust more. These guys are incredibly down to earth with a passion for the craft. They believe in creating quality work that lasts. They really know how to position tattoos in ways that they will not distort as the body moves naturally. They are incredibly clean and professional artists.For my latest piece, I wanted something that reminded me of home. I told Alex the basic concept of what I was looking for. He drew up a quick sketch that really tied everything together in a way that far exceeded my expectations. I could not be happier with how it turned out. I knew I could trust Alex to create something incredible based on such a simple concept.The shop can be tricky to find that first time, but it's on the corner of Osborn and 7th Ave in a little strip of businesses behind a Cricket store and a Mexican restaurant.

Tired of the monster egos and attitudes in many of tattoo shops locally? I was, so I went here. They'd done some work on my friend, and it looked incredible. I just spent the last two days there, as Alex Empty (owner) is doing a very large japanese style back piece on me. He is amazing. The piece looks so good (understatement of the year), and I cannot wait for it to be finished. He's very detail oriented, he even wrote famous japanese artists with questions on seasons and the position of objects in my tattoo, caring about what is accepted and that my tattoo was done properly. He cares about the details, and his passion is definitely in this area. He's well traveled, and has studied it seriously. Japanese style is not the only type he does, but he's damn good at it. I got to know the other artists as well, since I spent so much time there this past weekend. They are all talented. On top of that, good people, good vibes, and they care about their craft. No one else is tattooing me. Ever. Go see them, talk to them about that tattoo you've been thinking about, and see if it's a good fit for you.

The hubby and I stopped in on a whim... aren't most tats are on a whimp right hahaHe needed to fix a monstrosity from a drunkin bad choice back in the day, and I needed to get my stamp of completing for my half marathon. Simple work for both of us. These guys were great. Their books looked good, they do a great job with covering old tattoos. They are very clean and have a nice work space. They haven't been around a long time so don't have a huge following that I can tell, but you should check them out. I will be back in two months when I get to get my 26.2 tat Yay!
