I waited a while to write this review to put some thought into it.  My son and I wanted to get similar tattoo's with a special meaning.  We made a very spontaneous decision and yesterday was the day.  This was my 1st tattoo and I have heard every horror story there is and was honestly scared to death of the pain!.. My son has several tattoos and was very supportive.  We called and made a walk in appointment.  We were scheduled with Jose... This man is amazing.  our tattoos are very simple with great meaning... Jose took our ideas and drew up two simple but amazing pieces.  He new I was nervous and assured me that it would be fine with no pain.  This man knows his stuff. And he is hilarious.  We laughed and joked with him while he was getting ready.  He station is impeccable and extremely clean... You can tell Jose cares about his art and that NextWave cares about their customers.  The shop was extremely clean. Jose was right.... There was no pain... Did I feel it?  Yes I felt it... but the dentist causes me more pain.  Before the tattoo was finished I was thinking about getting my next one.  Both pieces of art, while they were not great colorful masterpieces came out amazing.  Both my son and I are very pleased and I will be taking my daughter soon!. My husband gave me a choice for my bday and I chose tattoos.  Next wave got such great reviews that we called to check pricing.Lady who answered the phone was very nice and actually gave an hourly price where most places just say "it depends". Today my girlfriend got off work and i asked her if she wanted to go get tattoos with her birthday being the next day. I knew i wanted to check out Next Wave and figured this was the perfect opportunity. So i called to see if they had availability for a couple walk ins. To which i was told if you get here soon they would try to get us both in with only one artist there. So we got there and were given the best service and were treated so kindly!! My artist, Jose, was very professional and an amazing tattooist. He knocked my tattoo out in about 45 minutes. My friend and I were just walk ins. Coming from another shop that the artist was completely rude, it was nice to be greeted with a friendly face. Also nice of Denise (Receptionist) to offer some candy, who doesn't love that! I have been to this shop a few times. Not all of my experiences were bad HOWEVER the tattooer JOE produces shoddy work and is soo heavy handed! He causes trauma while tattooing and has a hard time with his line work. My memorial dragon I got for my grandma looks terrible after "healing" and that just sucks! He dig so deep which made me bleed excessively. I have several tatoos by several artists and this has never happened. I have never bled so much or scabbed/scarred the way I have since coming to him. My husband got a tattoo from his as well and also had trauma done to it. Almost all of the other work ive had done by him is raised too indicating he goes too deep with the needles. I do have to say though the shop as a whole is not bad. Kenneth the shop owner did a tattoo for me and it healed nicely. If youre going to go to this shop try kenneth or Jose.. if you go to Joe good luck having nice lines or healing properly and be ready to deal with a lot of pain! Read Less

Had my work done by Kenneth Shaw, he is an amazing artist who pays incredible attention to detail. I love my piece and it means the world to me to have finally had it done. I use to self harm when I was younger, and because I left myself with really ugly scars I never wanted to wear any short sleeves. Considering how hot the summer months are here in the Phoenix area I felt that I needed to get a tattoo, but I did not want to go to just any artist. Kenneth Shaw has the most experience with tattooing over scars and his work is gold. First off, I want to say that this shop looks very nice & clean. You can really tell how talented these artists are by looking at their past work on the walls! I came in yesterday as a walk in for a daith piercing. Kenneth got me in with in 5 minutes and he made the process very quick and easy. It was a lot less painful then i thought it would be! This is my first and only Tattoo shop so far. And so far, I'm not sure I'll ever find a better one. I first got a cross tattooed by Jose. Jose did such an awesome job the first time, I went back for two more tattoos. One of an album cover but for the main piece I got what is in the pictures! Jose did such an awesome job. Being a guy, I wasn't sure about the flowers but in the end, the whole concept blew my mind. With the shading and colors it is so awesome and I am so happy to have such an awesome tattoo on my arm! The price cannot be beaten for the quality. Jose is the way to go! The other guys in the shop were working on some other pieces as well and they looks really professionally done. I had such an amazing first tattoo experience here. Joe was my artist and he did an incredible job on me! I brought in a custom drawing I did, and all he did was tweak it but keep the design perfectly intact. Great professionalism at this shop and what an amazing experience. Kenneth is the best artist I've had to do work on me. Of course you need to be careful when finding someone to work on a cover up, and he is officially my number one recommendation!!! I moved to the area a couple years ago and recently started looking for a shop. As a person with a handful of tattoos already, I was a little nervous to come because I made my decision off of reviews and some pictures online. I went in and met the owner Kenneth. He was very kind and made me feel very comfortable. I was able to get an appointment within a couple weeks to start my half sleeve. I had my first session last week which went perfect. I've had 2 pieces done by Kenneth and im very happy with both pieces.  Both were very detailed pieces and he did both of them with precision (esp my dotwork one). He's very friendly and professional, never blew off or dismissed my "vision" for what i wanted to do.  I was a little hesitant at first because he didnt not create a mock up or sketch, but after my 2nd piece, i was completely happy with his artistic vision.  Also the tattoo remains bright and clear. I'm not a big fan of tattoos that turn out dark or murky looking and not be looking bright and sharp right off the bat. I never had that problems with my tattoos. I get a lot of compliments on both pieces. overall just very happy with my work.  and I'll def be coming back for more work.Only con is Kenneth gets booked out pretty far out cause he's so hot (mugatu's voice) and is closed 2 days out of the week. So I've had 3 tattoo artists in my time. One in my 20's, one in my 30's, one in my 40's.Each have had a section of my body. In my 20's I started on my legs, 30's I moved to my arms and when I turned 40 I did my chest.  I'm 43 now and decided to start on my back. Joe will be the 4th tattoo artist I have worked with. I met Joe Garner in a bath house in Thailand many years ago and we clicked, surprisingly we both lived in the valley. I told him if I could ever leave the opium dens and wonderful bath houses of this wonderful country, I would have him tattoo my back. Thank goodness in my hallucinated state of mind, I some how managed to keep his card. Years Iater.......As I emerge from my opium addiction I am back home in the states. After several detoxs and rehab clinics I came in a discussed my dreams with Joe and told him my visions I had in the spirit world. He took what I said in interpreted it perfectly. We did a 3 hour beginning session and it went awesome. I'm guessing it will take 4-8 sessions to finish my dream, and I look forward to every session. Next Wave tattoo, thumbs up.
