This is my first review I've ever done on yelp, first I'd like to thank the artist for not judging me nor making me feel out of place once I walked in, I went to MULTIPLE tattoo shops in the area and not one place made me feel like I was a actual customer, it was very uncomfortable but coming to west side tatttoo best experience OF MY LIFE. 10/10 recommend anyone to come here I am not from Arizona but I now know where my home is when it comes to getting tattooed/pierced. My husband and I went in to get a quote for some cover ups. Decided to get them done. Personally I had no idea what to get but Gilbert did a great job. My husband had Nolita do his cover up and it came out amazing. The shop is clean and it has personality. I'm not a fan of shops that feel like it's a museum. And they'll work with you on pricing which is great, even offering military discount bc he's active duty. I was looking for a new tattoo artist and i walked in WEST SIDE tattoo shop johnny tapia was the one who gave me some excellent idea's to start my sleeve. I was looking for a cover up because what i had looked like a "weird looking flower" johnny made it happen he did a cover up of a cover up and you can't even tell the old tattoo. What's makes it even better is that he is friendly makes you feel welcome and he keeps it professional. I went back for a another tattoo and he is the best with. Color tattoos and black and white. Aaron is so talented, lots of great drawings to choose from or he can create a pattern for you, he has a super light hand, made the whole cover up easy. I am literally about 2 hours freshly inked from this awesome tattoo parlor. Holy cow, man! This is the perfect blend of the new clean, friendly and well-lit parlors and the old family style tattoo parlor where everyone knows everyone by name.I went here with my girlfriend and having read the only other review for this place we decided to give it a go. The strip mall itself is what you would expect for a strip-mall; a little run down and a bit shady but the shop itself is anything but shady!The shop has nice furniture and is decorated in a Mexican vacation style with the front counter looking like a cantina. It is run by Gilbert, the owner, his wife and three other artists. Every station is clean and decorated by the artist. If you get Gilbert, be prepared to be amazed as his station has a flat screen TV for clients to watch and keep their mind off getting tattooed .My girlfriend got four microdermal piercing and they took more than half an hour to make sure that she liked the placement, liked the size of the jewelry and was comfortable in between getting each piercing done. She also got a large size tattoo, about palm size, on her arm and it was done with great quality. Her artist took time to make sure she was pleased with the size, placement and took extra care to add shading to make her piece pop.I came in and had literally two separate pieces of an idea and asked for them to be put together but was unsure how. My artist took over an hour to make sure I was happy with his sketch and changed anything I liked. When it came time to the ink, despite the pain cause I'm a wuss, it was brilliant! My artist took extra care to do small details, shading and highlighting.What really impressed me was the above and beyond attitude everyone had. They had music playing, all the artists were laughing and joking around with everyone, Gilbert and his wife busted out dancing. My girlfriend and I were there for 6 hours from the time we walked in the door to the time we paid ad left, and they artists surprised us with ordering a pizza and soda. World class service!The ONLY con and it's a little thing is that I wasn't offered any gauze afterwards to cover my tattoo but I was given some cream.Overall if you are looking for amazing custom work at great prices and are looking for an experience that you won't regret, go here and no where else!
