I had a wonderful experience at Inkenstein Tattoo. I had plans of travel to the Phoenix area and had (somewhat) spontaneously decided I wanted to get a tattoo. About 3 weeks prior to traveling, I started researching tattoo shops and was drawn to Inkenstein with its near perfect reviews. I sent the shop a message and within minutes, Jason replied. I sent him a description of what I wanted, with a few photos for reference. We went back and forth, discussing the design and shortly after I set my appointment and sent him a down payment via PayPal. Jason sent me his design the evening before my appointment. I asked for a few small changes, completely because it was just my personal preference, his design was great from the beginning. Jason was very receptive and quickly sent me his reworks, as soon as he made the slight modifications. Today I went to the shop for my appointment, which was impeccably clean and eclectic (the exterior is painted bright green). Jason showed me the design, I filled out paperwork, he prepped his area, then he placed the design in the perfect spot near my shoulder blade on the first try. It couldn't have taken 40 minutes for my tattoo. It barely hurt at all, and he worked quickly and efficiently. Went to Jonny for my first tattoo and I couldn't be happier. She did a fantastic job using her knowledge of Chinese to help translate my piece. The entire experience was comfortable and enjoyable despite the reservations I had about how painful a tattoo was. She also took time out of her day to draw my boyfriend a custom font for the Japanese kanji he had wanted and did an amazing job with it. I just got my first tattoo by Jason, it is a 3D butterfly and it exceeded my expectations. It's not just the outstanding attention to detail either, what I appreciated more then anything was that he didn't treat it like it was just another stupid butterfly as some other shops did. He had a very light touch- most of the time I couldn't even feel the needle. The shop is beautifully decorated and sparkling clean. I'm here hanging out as everyone else is getting tattoos! Very clean and sanitary! Everyone is happy with the ink and smiles on their faces. Very patient and friendly staff listening to each person expressing what they want. Calm environment as the rock and roll music plays in the background but doesn't quite drown out the sound of the tattoo gun. Had an appointment with Jason Ballard at Inkentstein set for noon. To start, the shop was very clean and organized. The decor was cool as hell. Jason showed up early and opened the shop. He showed me the rough sketch and applied it to see how it fit. We discussed it and decided it would be better to enlarge the piece a bit. He set up quickly and efficiently. Immediately he got to work. I hardly felt the needle(s). Jason engaged in conversation and kept the mood light. A few hours later he was done. I couldn't be happier with the end result. I just got home getting my latest ink with Chris and I really could not be more pleased.  Chris worked on a tattoo for me about two years ago when he worked at another shop, when it came time again I followed him over to Inkenstein.The shop is a little off the beaten path but really nicely appointed and very welcoming.  My previous tattoo was probably one that most artists merely tolerate-simple script which I provided so zero creativity.  This tattoo I gave Chris an idea of what I liked and didn't like and gave him creative license.  He exceeded my expectations and my tattoo looks better than I even imagined.Inkenstein has built a solid reputation and it is very well deserved.  There is certainly no shortage of tattoo shops, especially in downtown Glendale, there's good reason this place is number one. I found Inkenstein Tattoo after checking out a bunch of shops here on Yelp, and was so impressed with the quality of work. I'm definitely a perfectionist, so I won't go to just anybody, especially for something as permanent as ink. Well, after my amazing experience with Jason Ballard at Inkenstein, I won't be going to anybody else ever again! The shop is extremely clean and just has a very chill vibe that makes you feel welcome. Jason is awesome and made several adjustments to the stencil to make sure it was just the way I wanted. He works very quickly and most importantly accurately. This was only my second tattoo, and the first really large piece I've had done so I was a little worried about how I would handle the pain. Jason kept the conversation going and played great music that kept my mind off it completely - the time really flew by! Now I have an amazing back tattoo and am already planning several additions to fill the piece out. We called earlier in the week and spoke to Jesse and make appointments for today. My brother has been going to Jason at Inkenstein for a long time. He is super OCD about perfection and has both arms and his back covered in tattoos. After finding this shop he has never gone anywhere else for a tattoo. His wife also only goes to Jason and my brother has been trying to get me to go check it out for a while now.Finally my best friend was looking to get a tattoo covered up that had a pretty thick  black outline. She had been to 4 or 5 shops to get opinions and prices. Most of the artists she talked to told her it couldnt be covered up, or quoted 500-600 dollar prices saying that she would have to go double the size to have any real coverage. That's when I thought of Jason. He really talked to her, traced her tattoo and respected her size restrictions. He was very honest about cover ups and what he would need to do to give the best coverage. He also charged by the hour, 100 dollars an hour, and quoted about 2 to 3 hours of work. My friend, after months of looking finally decided to go with Jason, and even though he was having back surgery he got her in as quickly as he could. He worked fast and in just 2 hours my friend had an amazing tattoo cover up of a beautiful rose with hanging pearls! I couldn't believe the line work and how great it healed. There was almost no scabbing and the color didn't fade at all! After a month my friend went in to have Jason check everything out, and he did a little more shading to cover even better, free of charge. Now unless you knew that ugly skull tattoo was even there, you wouldn't be able to tell. My friend is beyond happy and has vowed to go no where else from now on! With 3 people in my life die hard clients, and after meeting Jason and seeing his work first hand, he also has a client in me. I have 5 tattoos, none of which are done well. I want tattoos that I love and I know Jason can give me that. If only I listened to my brother earlier! Read Less
