I emailed through Yelp to get an appointment but didn't hear back by the next day.  We stopped in to see if they had any availability. The receptionist said unfortunately they were booked for tattoos. We asked about piercings and were told the piercer would be right with us. We watched the guy walk into the bathroom - 15 minutes later he was still in there. When the receptionist tried to remind him we were waiting, he shouted rudely at her through the door, so we left.  I just finally got an email back (4 days later) about the shop requiring a consultation and cash deposit before agreeing to tattoo us.  What the hell is that about? After we left the shop we went straight to another one and not only got in immediately, they didnt require a consultation or cash deposit. I won't recommend this shop or return to it. Read Less

This was my first tattoo and the experience was amazing. Brian Savage is hands down a great tattoo artist. I gave him a few pics of color and styles that I like and he ran with it. The line work is flawless and the color POPS! I had to wait close to two mornths for my appointment, but I would wait a year. I spent quite a bit of $$ here last year and was very disappointed with the customer service. The artist I was working with left and they would not refund or transfer my deposit to a new artist. They have great artists but that’s only half of the business. They act like they are doing you a favor by simply doing what they are being paid to do. My boyfriend and I go to Black Lotus for any and all of our tattoos in Arizona. We usually see Tyler but all of the artists here are great. Don't be afraid to go in with an idea and talk it over with anyone there, they're incredibly creative and can create an amazing piece for you. I recommend following their shop's Instagram page so you can check out the artists and their personal Instagram pages to get a feel for their style. My husband got an amazing shark tattoo on the back of his leg by Tyler, who may I add is a very friendly nerd. He remembers a lot of clients when they come in. My best friend got a hand tattoo by Tyler as well that turned out very nice. He is funny, and has a lot of ideas. I personally am working with Brian. His art work is more my style. I love how excited he was to do my tattoo, and how he was throwing out tattoo ideas for the future. He is a very calm listener. I almost fell asleep getting my tattoo because he has a light hand. My friend has also been tattooed by him, and she absolutely loves it. I am not a huge fan of water color tattoos, but if you are interested, he is very good at it. This place is overall clean, fun, and has great music. I enjoyed my time here, and I have future appointments coming up. Things to remember when shopping for a new artist. 1. Not every tattoo artist will do your tattoo. They may not want to do it because it is not something they are comfortable doing or maybe they don't think it will turn out the way you think. (every artist has their own style) 2. When you do a "walk in", you should expect to wait. There are other people ahead of you that booked appointments. It's not the artist's fault that you walked in an hour before closing, and weren't able to be tattooed right away. 3. Check out your future artist's Instagram. See if they are your style. Read Less

My 2 friends and I chose the shop because we wanted to get lotus tattoos, that simple! And the reviews were good. We had a great experience and are thrilled with the pieces we each got.We booked an appointment for three ppl about four weeks in advance with Andrew. Jerom at the front desk was great.We emailed our reference a few days before, and he had it drawn up when we got there. Andrew's style is unusual but awesome-- thick outlines with line-work for contours rather than gray shading, reminiscent of R. Crumb. I totally dig it, but my friends had other ideas in mind, which he happily provided them. We all wanted the same drawing (outline), but mine was all black--the same size & exactly how he drew it w his line-work contours (inner upper forearm), one wanted color (back of shoulder), and one wanted hers shrunk down & simplified to just an outline (back of ankle). They all turned out perfect.He was patient, friendly, and professionally accommodated the needs of three opinionated yoga teachers. Tyler has tattooed me twice and I recently booked an appointment for my third by him. Each time I enter this shop I am treated with a friendly level of professionalism that I haven found lacking in other local establishments. I am never rushed. I am never scolded for my choices. I always leave excited and happy to be paying for thier services. The quality of work I have received from Tyler is nothing short of phenomenal. My first tattoo from him is still as vibrant and fresh as ever; people often mistake it for only being a few months "old" when in reality it is going on 3 years. Me and my boyfriend came here out of spontaneity for a walk in tattoo. This was our first time here and we left before getting anything due to how rude one of the artists were here. We both have full sleeves and numerous other tattoos so what we experienced here was a first for us. After already waiting about an hour we were brought back to meet the artist that would be doing our tattoo. We ended up walking out after this guy cut me off when I began to tell him what we wanted, stated so many times that what we wanted "was not his style", that he only does traditional Japanese art, and continuously contradicted himself when discussing our idea. He even referred us to a fellow artist sitting next to him stating that he could do the style we wanted but not him. Oh, and we can't get you in until Monday... Let me point out that we wanted a tiny cactus and UFO. Literally, that was all, AND had already waited an hour after being told that it would be no problem to get this done as a walk in. This artist is BRIAN, which I had to look up due to him never introducing himself in the first place. I have never written a review about a tattoo shop but I've also never encountered such a rude and condescending artist and will never go back to this shop nor refer anyone here. Read Less

I chose a piece of his off the 200 dollar one shot wall. A spooky clown  chick that had been up there for a year or 2 with no takers. I love spooky and colorful tattoos and Aaron really wanted to knock it out of the park. It was a little more expensive than 200 dollars, but you pay for quality when getting a tattoo. I have returned to him for 2 more tattoos since then. Slowly but surely working towards a full leg of his work. Dude is lit.I also had the pleasure of getting some traditional pieces done by the incomparable Tyler. His workshop is right behind the front desk and he will most likely be the first person to greet you as you walk in. Tyler is soooo welcoming..  literally. If you have had a negative experience with him or any of the other gents at this store, chances are the problem is you. I have had 2 pieces done by Tyler and they are so colorful and vibrant. I always get compliments on them. Just stopped in to have them look at a wedding band i had done a few months ago in Portland.  I spoke with Jerome and Tyler and both were very respectful with me and my finger tattoo (they wear-off and are unpredictable). Glad that Tyler was willing to work on it when I let him know I understood that there is no guarantee that the ink will last. The shop itself is very clean and well put together. Absolutely love love love the work that Aaron has done for me and can't wait for Byron to take on my next project in January. These guys are the real deal - true artists, not just a bunch of garage tattooers looking for the next quick buck. They take pride in their work and aren't willing to compromise their values. They will give you an honest opinion, they run a clean facility, are upfront with their pricing, and they won't screw you over to make a profit. I had originally been in a year ago for a big cover up and after multiple consults with Byron, the project just couldn't be done the way I imagined it. He gave it to me straight - that in his professional opinion, my expectations weren't realistic and that the finished product would not be aesthetically pleasing. Although I was disappointed, I really valued his opinion, and that's why I choose Black Lotus time and again. When I returned a couple of months ago for a new project, I had intended to meet with Byron, but after taking a look at the inspiration, I was advised that the style of tattoo I wanted was more in John or Aaron's wheelhouse. I'm glad I went with Aaron because I am absolutely thrilled with the work he produced. I think a lot of disappointment with tattoo artists is that there is a lack of a management of expectations. The guys who are out there just to make a dollar will do and say everything you want to hear to land that sale.
