This shop is the absolute best! I went in for a nostril piercing, and Megan was just the best! The shop is so very clean. Which always makes me feel good because I know they care about where they work. Megan talked me through everything, what to expect and made sure I was comfortable before she did anything. Overall- Everyone is super nice! Megan is a sweetheart and the front desk guy was so friendly! The shop is clean and had a very welcoming environment. The owner Matt, is extremely professional and means business. He was kind but also very focused. I had existing work on my arm that was unfinished by another artist and I had reached out to Matt because I loved his work. I had my eye on his work for awhile because I followed his ig page and thought he was a great fit to rework/finish my piece. I know most artists don't do that sort of work but thankfully Matt was willing to do this project for me and I ended up with a beautiful piece. I was set up for a full day (8 hours) and paid exactly what I was quoted. I got my full 8 hours worth. I'm not the best sitter especially for that length of time and I could feel my body starting to give and he tried his best to finish strong. I think I made it difficult for him to give me the amount of detail I wanted because of my issue with sitting for so long but he was a trooper and still did a beautiful job! This review will be for the piercing side of Salt & Light. Have not had any tattoo work done yet, but will hopefully be scheduling a consult with owner Matt soon. Went in for a nostril piercing from Megan, and I could not be happier. She explained every step of the process, and also the aftercare procedures. Following her guidance, the piercing healed up great and I was able to go in yesterday and get a hoop put in. Megan is professional, and an overall badass when it comes to piercing. My daughter & I came in to get our daith piercings redone. She has a nickel allergy, and needed to have her piercing changed out from surgical steel to titanium. I had my piercings removed last year, in order to have earplugs molded to my ears. The shop is super clean; staff is very professional and friendly. The artwork is amazing. Jay was able to get both of us re-pierced within 15 mins. Very reasonable rates. All in all, a great experience. So I needed to get a tattoo done octopus kind of on my PEC my right PEC going off into my back and around my side kind of wrapping around me. I went to Salt and Light and decided I would have them do it. They made me pay a 200 dollar deposit. Which I did. The day we started on the chest piece, I had shingles berfore on the pec that we were working on so it hurt extremely bad. I didn't realize the pain would be so horrific. I couldn't get as much done as we had planned. Basically it was torture. Nathan, the artist seemed nice. Enough. I thought it wierd when he wouldn't let me take pics for my friend of the rest of the tattoo I had already invested over 800 dollars in.  I had tried to schedule the next session, it actually took me 3 days to finally get an answer and it also included a lecture about what we can and can't talk about, he said we offended customers. I dont remember saying anything that would come across remotely offensive. Plus I though I was the only one there most the time anyway. Also he suddenly explained that your supposed to. Pay for the entire tattoo up front. Which is insane. If you don't take up. All the time, they refund you that amount!!!???? Anyway things were looking bad. He had told. Me that I'm. Only paying for tattoo time. Itself, and not breaks. Well they charges me for the whole time. I figured it would just roll. Over on the next session. Anyway comes the next session and I had been up all night with anxiety about the pain and the fact that he wanted to try and bang out the whole. Rest of the tattoo in one sitting. Which was ALOT. And I over slept by 20 mins, I immediately called and apologized and explained I would be right there. To my complete shock they explained I now had lost my 200 dollar deposit and I would have to pay another 200 and be a walk in. WTF. THATS EXTORTION. "It's just our policy", I figured that was just there to deter clients not come in late but wouldn't actually apply in extenuating circumstances. I MEAN 15 MINS!?! The Staff in general is pretty snotty, except the young man at the counter, he was really nice. I have to say that I practically wasted 300 dollars for nothing and have a half finished tattoo. And I refuse to pay them another dime. This is insane business practice any way you look at it. It literally ruined my experience and I wouldnt recommend that place to anyone. Read Less

First, my husband had a poor experience years ago with parts of his tattoo peeling off during the healing process. He has tons of tattoos and his skin has never pushed out pigment or healed like that before. We assumed it was an issue with the tattoo artist and not an accurate reflection of the shop as a whole. He had the tattoo touched up by someone else and it turned out adequate. Second, recently my friend was in town visiting and she insisted on going to Salt and Light bc she had read good reviews. We wanted to get small matching tattoos so I thought why not give them a try. The girl at the front was so nice and sweet over the phone and in person. However the tattoo artist seemed to go out of his way to be rude. He was annoyed with every question or comment we made. He said that he doesn't like doing such simple tattoos because his skills are better displayed on detailed pieces.  He quoted a ridiculous price for our "simple " tattoos. And the whole vibe of the shop became so unwelcoming, negative and awkward.  I told him these tattoos represent a positive and happy meaning so we will find a different place that will maintain an enjoyable environment. Came in this weekend with my brother and mom to get tattoos and we all had a great experience! My brother and I made appointments with Joel, while my mom was able to get a walk-in appointment with Christian. Love this studio. I went yesterday to get my second piercing from this place and had another great experience. They walk you through every step before, during and after your piercing to provide with a wide understanding of the responsibility and aftercare of any piercing you're getting. Prices are also very fair as I got a piercing for $40+tip when it's a ridiculous $80+tip anywhere else. Everyone is super nice and friendly and it's a very comfortable setting. I always wanted to get my nose pierced. I'm a 48yo, sahm who has been thinking about it for ages. So, I did my research, read reviews (thanks Yelp) and advice online, & talked to others who had it done. They don't take appointments for piercing, so I just drove over and walked in, didn't even tell my family I was going ;). It's a very clean, well lit, nice shop. I was greeted by Megan who helped me sign in and explained the whole process to me. She took me to a private room, and was very thorough and clear in explaining all about each step she performed and the after care. She did a great job!! I love my nose stud! Didn't hurt much, and only cost $40! She even offered to change out my jewelry for free when I was ready. I got my first tattoo here as a walk-in, so I was very grateful that they took me in. I got a cross on my wrist for only $30 plus tip. Joel did my tattoo and he was awesome. I'd definitely come back only for him. When i walked in the shop, it wasn't crowded at all. The guy who greeted me had no energy or emotions which i thought was weird... I told him what I wanted then he introduced me to an artist. I told the artist I wanted a cross on my arm. The cross was upright to me when I look at my arm but when my arm is down it is upside down. When i showed him my sketch of the cross and where I wanted it, he was like "Yeah I'm not going to do that. I don't do upside down crosses because they are SATANIC." I didn't understand what he was talking about. But he was like "yeah there is only one correct way to have a cross on your arm and its the other way you want it. So i will not do this tattoo unless its the other way." I totally understand where he was coming from, and I honestly had no idea that was a thing. I like the feedback I get from him on my ideas. This is my second tattoo and  wasn't really sure how things would look in ink. I've searched portfolios of tons of artists over the last couple of years looking for small, clean script and watercolor work. Stumbled upon Joel's work and stopped searching. I got Romans 8:28 placed on my back in my grandmother's handwriting and two watercolor violets done. I LOVE it! He is so patient (I may be a slight perfectionist�), creative, talented and fun! I chose Joel Parker because of his reputation for b&w tattoos with details. I had a paw print of my cat who had passed away. The tattoo was very impossible to me and I felt that Joel really gave me exactly what I wanted. The fine lines are very individual to my cat. I will definitely go to Joel next time I get a tattoo. Salt & Light exceeded my expectations, and I'm so happy I chose them! It's been 15 years since my last tattoo, but life threw me a curveball and I wanted to remember it forever. Having experienced something similar with my son, her journey brought up many emotions I hadn't felt for a long time. During this time for her, I offered support and sent several scriptures. One that ended up speaking to me personally was Psalm 61:2 "When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I." I've lived most of my life in a state of overwhelm, caught up in fear and control. This verse gives me the strength to let go and trust God to lead me, to release my fears to Him. When her tiny baby girl received a heart for transplant, we all watched a pure miracle unfold before our eyes. My Faith was reignited in a way I'll never be able to explain, and I hit the floor and released years of pain that I had been holding tightly to. My tattoo is placed on my left wrist in support of my dear friend and her baby (the same place she got her turtle tattoo). So I went back in December or January with my best friend, her sister, and brother in law to get their tattoos done by Joel Parker. First things first, this ship is Christian. Which I absolutely love! I fell in love with Joel's art work and how nice he is. I also noticed how clean they are, which is a good thing to look for when trying to find a good shop. He is super nice and they also pray over you (if you want) before they do the tattoos. Well I just went in on Friday to have Joel finish a tattoo that someone else started because the other person, well it just wasn't working out. Now let me just say this, I live all the way in surprise and I drove all the way to chandler because to me it was worth it. When you like the shop and you like the person, it's worth it to make the drive if you know it's gonna turn out great and you trust the tattoo artist. So anyways I went so Joel could finish/fix the tattoo on my back. Well the guy who started it never finished it and I no longer trusted the person who started it because he never responded to my texts, he never showed me a picture of what he was doing (which yes, was also my own fault) and the second session I had with him(the last time I saw the guy) I hated what he had done to my back. The song lyrics he did looked good but he added music likes which was all curvy and I hated it. It was just the shading. Well Joel and I had discussed adding more or doing a cover up. If I was going to do a cover up he was gonna refer me to one of the other guys. So before I decided I asked him to talk to them to see what they could come up with. Two of the guys he talked to both said that since the shading is so light and that's the only part I don't like, it would be one quick and easy laser removal. So we decided to do nothing to my back and instead I decided to do 3 new tattoos which he bundled for me into $120. An amazing deal I couldn't pass up! The three I got was yadah, the Hebrew word meaning "to lift your hands" on my forearm. My second one was on my arm, right by what they call the ditch (where your arm creases on the inside) and it says "let God". The d is a light grey so it looks like it just says let God but it's let go, let God. And the last one I got is right below my collar bone and it says "saved by grace". Seriously I love them! I'm obsessed. Joel listened to what I wanted and he was patient, as well as he actually showed me before he just put it on me. He didn't just want my money. He put the time and quality into it. I will no go to any other tattoo artist. I will be referring EVERYONE here. Oh and right after he put on the stencils and before he started, he asked if I wanted to pray before we began and of course since I'm Christian, I said yes! Go see Frank if you want a great looking tattoo! This was only my 2nd piece I've had done...I regret not having him do my first one. I had an idea for a family crest piece, gave him some pics for ideas and he drew up a great concept. We made some slight changes to the idea and when it came to putting needle to arm it turned out amazing. We've since added some color to it and I couldn't be happier with the results! Since the piece was honoring my late father and my 2 sons it was important that it looked great and it does. My oldest son also got some work done by Frank. If I trust him to work on my kid....I recommend him highly. The shop is clean and organized and when or if I get another tattoo I will call Frank. Read Less

Beware Of This Shop!! My 18 year old daughter and I decided get our first tattoos together. Our artist was Scott who was supposed to be great at watercolor tattoos. This review is just for my tattoo, although my daughter's result was at least as bad as mine if not worse. And since a pic is worth 1,000 words I am attaching two. Can you guess what the tattoo was supposed to be??......Not a Demented Clown :/Not only did Scott do a terrible job he caused severe damage to my skin and the end result was a HORRIBLE tattoo! My skin was so severely damaged by being overworked it caused major deep scabbing. This happened in several places. The tattoo is on the outside of my ankle just above the ankle bone. It was red and so swollen all the way down to my foot you could no longer see my ankle bone at all.I tried calling the shop but my messages were never returned. So after a month of getting the run around I finally tracked down the owner Matt on Facebook. I sent him a message, his response was that Scott either had his machine turned up to high or over blended trying to achieve the desired effect. He also said that overworking a tattoo makes it more susceptible to infection. Although he admitted all this he said he trusted Scott so much that he let Scott do a watercolor tattoo on his wife. Well good for the owners wife! To bad they dont treat the customers the same way. Were now left with terribly ugly tattoos, that caused a lot of pain and scarring. The only thing that was offered was Matt saying he was "sorry for my plight."**UPDATE: He never offered to touch up or cover it for free, until this review that is.
