1987 my first ink by Larry. My first born's name on my back. It still looks amazing to me after 30 years. Fast forward to 1999, my husband's first ink by James [Allen], Larry's son. A monumentalization tribute to his young son, a wrist band of purple irises & his name, the 'i' dotted with a HEART instead of a tear, as my husband first thought to get. Thank you James for this kibitz. Now here's the irony of my story, my younger sister is married to James in these years and now has a beautiful raven in the centrum of aurora borialis around her ribs spanning upwards onto her back. The ones I selected from the Internet pictures, I wanted are drawn and inked on my left and right arms. Both of my arms are almost fully sleeved with ink. My husband and I came here after we eloped in Seward. We tried a few other shops first but none were open/had availability. As we were driving around, we decided to stop by this shop and see if we could possibly get in. Lucky for us, Miss Jenn just had someone cancel and was able to fit both of us in right away. It was my husbands first tattoo and Jenn was very nice and calm throughout the whole thing. When she was tattooing me, I didn't even realize when she was done because she had such a soft touch. I got my first two tattoos here. Both experiences were great. Kirk did a gorgeous piece on my side..I had shown him pictures of some lovely roses I found online, he took those and made them his own (beeeeeautiful!). He also made sure that it the piece was shaped to my body. I was incredibly impressed. They were also sensitive to the fact that I live out of town and were able to work with me (with prior notice). This review is way, WAY overdue. I only have one tattoo, but I got it from Larry Allen's back in 2003 for my 18th birthday. I booked with Mason, who appears to still be there. He was awesome. My tattoo was simple--a pirate skull and swords that was smaller than the size of my fist. Mason and I had fun cracking pirate jokes during the process. My tattoo didn't call for a lot of color, but Mason did such an amazing job shading the few colored parts that it turned great. He even suggested not filling in the skull because my skin is so pale already, lol. Turned out to be a good decision. And he was patient with me when my mom called from her trip in Vegas to check on me--she didn't know I was getting a tattoo, but that's what happens when you go to Vegas without me on my 18th birthday! She asked what the buzzing sound in the background was. I urgently waved to Mason and he paused so I could come up with an excuse to get her off the phone (Discovery Channel special on bees, hahahaha).It's now over 10 years later, and my tattoo still looks great. No fading, haven't had to do any color retouching. Sure, the establishment looks kind of shady and isn't in the best part of town, but don't be fooled. These guys are the real deal. Read Less

Great tattoo from Kirk Tapley!!!  The place is in a seedy location but Kirk did an amazing job and I couldn't be happier!  I got a custom thigh piece and was in the chair for over 6 hours.  I started swelling pretty bad even though Kirk has a gentle touch.  (My last tat was done by a heavy-handed artist and I have scars.)  Kirk told me to come back in one month so he could touch it up, if needed, for free.  That is awesome customer service!  I'm not sure if it will need touching up, but now I'm thinking of adding to it...  Damb this tattoo addiction!  Lol!  Anyways...go see Kirk!  He's a great artist and you will not be disappointed!web.acsalaska.net/~ancho… Read Less

My wife had a small tattoo done there a little while back:  TERRIBLE experience.  Like one of the previous reviewers, we were treated VERY rudely.  In hindsight, we should have walked away at this point, but we chose to ignore it.  My wife wanted a small, simple tattoo (one color, no shading) that anyone with any reasonable amount of experience should have been able to execute easily, so we took the "high road," my wife got her tattoo and we left.  Later, as the tattoo began to heal, we noticed that the coloring was uneven and the lines were not clear.  Needless to say, she was very disappointed and now needs to have it either redone or covered up.WOULD NOT recommend to anyone. Very professional. Great service. I saw one of their newest tattoo artists, Rodney and he was great. Everyone else there gets booked up months in advance but Rodney did a great job. He made me feel really comfortable and I was in the same room as Miss. Jenn (Larry Allen's daughter) and she was cool too. After leaving there I was ready to go back for more. AKA: LARRY ALLEN'S STUDIO... If you want the best, you have to go here. They are the oldest tattoo studio (to my knowledge) in the state and only have the best artists.  I have a friend who is addicted to Tattoo's and she only goes to this studio. I have one tattoo that was done by Judy and she did a great job (just don't get her worked up about something, when she starts talking about something that pisses her off, she goes deeper and it hurts like HELL)....
