Let me start this review by saying I am living in Los Angeles and intended to get a tattoo done here in LA before heading to Edinburgh for the Fringe.  I arranged with a tattoo artist here to create my tattoo and he was completely unprofessional.  He told me he would be done in a week and then he'd stall.  Then he'd stall again.  During my consultation he was more interested in his cigarette breaks than he was in creating my tattoo.  And he was going to charge me a fortune!I finally had the genius idea to get my tattoo done WHILE in Edinburgh.  I can across Red, Hot and Blue on my Yelp search and saw that they came highly recommended.  I really liked the designs of the artists on the site, but I was particularly attracted to Kerry's work.  She emphasized black and white and had some really strong line work.  Since I wanted to get a mandala, I figured she'd be the right artist for me.  As soon as I met Kerry, she was excited and enthusiastic about my tattoo!  She did exactly what I hoped which was to take my design and make it sing.  She came up with this incredible design and found a great way to fit them between my two existing tattoos and really make it seem like they were flowing within them.  I also have to say that Kerry's professionalism was second to none-as soon as I got there she was ready to work.  There was not time wasted at all.  But while we were working, she was very good at making me comfortable with pleasant conversation-as was Alex, another extremely talented tattoo artist who specializes in portrait work.We were able to break up my elaborate work into two sessions and get the entire project done before I left for the U.S.!  My tattoo is healing nicely.  I highly recommend Kerry for your tattoo if you are considering her.  Great work and all around great experience at Red Hot and Blue and I was also charged a very fair price for the incredible work! I got an original tattoo done by Jason in 2014, and it still looks immaculate. I came to him with a VERY rough sketch of what I wanted (art is not my strength) and he designed something I would never have thought up - it looked amazing. I'd had 3 tattoos before this one, and I can safely say my experience with him and at Red Hot and Blue was the best. Super clean and organised shop with a professional yet relaxed atmosphere, and Jason was really easy to chat to and have a laugh with - really important when you're being tattooed, esp on really painful areas (mine was on my forearm, so not that bad...I have a high pain threshold, but the tattooing along the bone was pretty nippy). I have recommended him to a number of people now and won't hesitate to seek him out for my next tattoo. Read Less

I've been collecting tattoos for around 12 years now and the artwork I've had done at Red Hot and Blue is undoubtedly the best. Pauls speedy freehand work has to be seen to be believed. His years of experience show in his tattoos, and are truly world class. Alec has a genius way with colours and between these two artists I have collected some real head turners. Red Hot and Blue is a must for anyone looking for a tattoo, and the only trouble you'll have is deciding which artist to choose first! Read Less

Fantastic experience! I visited Red Hot and Blue to receive my first tattoo and was fairly nervous; however, the friendly atmosphere held within the studio quickly put my mind at ease. I'd spent years researching which studio I wanted to get my tattoo from and the quality of work produced by each artist really won me over. Given my love for geometry, I opted to be tattooed by Jason. Jason did a stellar job on the piece and made the session really enjoyable with his chat. I visited Red Hot and Blue after a number of recommendations from friends and family. I had an idea of what i was after and had brought in a number of ideas. After having a chat I was encouraged to have it drawn up in house. I was nervous of this at first as I had set my mind on the ideas I had come in with. I'm happy to say that I was completely wrong. The final piece was better than i could ever have planned and will be back for more as soon as my bank balance allows. Can't recommend highly enough! Read Less

Many of the tattooers I admire live thousands of miles away, but here in Edinburgh we are lucky to have some incredibly talented artists right on our doorstep. I had my ribs tattooed by Paul a few years ago, and I remember being treated with so much respect and professionalism. Paul also tattooed my friend, a tattoo virgin, at the same time, and his kind attitude helped her relax. This studio is miles away from the cliche of gruff, too-cool-for-school people hulking around behind desks making you feel intimidated. It's clean and bright with approachable staff and a laid-back atmosphere. I'd recommend it whether you've got several tattoos or if you're looking for your first one. I'm planning on going back for a larger piece this year, and am really looking forward to spending more time under the needle at Red Hot and Blue. Nowhere else in Edinburgh comes close! Read Less

I got my first tattoo in Red Hot and Blue several years ago from Sarah Schor. I was amazed at her work considering at the time she had only been tattooing a short period of time, if I rememer correctly from our conversation,she didn't even intend on being a tattooist, she entered the shop to enquire about collaborating with Paul! I was and am still so happy with my tattoo. A year or so later after Sarah had moved on, I got my ribs tattooed by Paul, he was great, good fun and gave me a brilliant old school piece. I had been thinking about getting a bit done to an old tattoo for a while and woke up one monday morning thinking lets get this show on the road. A quick phone call and I had a slot at 1600 that day. Showed up on time and after a quick chat with the guy at the desk and then Drew (I think) it was all systems go! a clean studio with plenty of distractions and the job was done in less than an hour. They gave great advice on after care and now 2 1/2 weeks later the piece looks great. About a year ago I got a custom design on my back,  in a pretty reputable studio in Aberdeen - and they didn't really give me much after care advice, which is a shame as its not looking that great - I will probably head back to RH&BT to get it fixed.You do pay a premium for this service. I have been thinking quite a lot recently about getting a tattoo and so I have been asking around about which tattoo studio would be best and Red, Hot and Blue Tattoo was the firm favourite. Several of my friends have had tattoos done here and have raved about the tattoo artists working here, and so this is definitely the place I am going to get mine done. Situated in the Tollcross area of Edinburgh, Red, Hot and Blue Tattoo is just a short walk from the city centre and so it is a convenient place to reach. They have a really great studio inside which shows hundred of different tattoo designs, all of them beautifully drawn. I visited this store just to see what kind of designs they do and I completely fell in love with a butterfly design of theirs which I am certain is the one I am going to get - it is gorgeous! The staff here were all lovely and one woman look the time to talk me through the tattoo process and she made me feel really at ease and so I am going to make an appointment with her to get it done. The prices for tattoos at Red, Hot and Blue are really reasonable and it would be difficult to find a tattoo place in Edinburgh which was as cheap and performed such great work. Read Less

Sadly, I can't give a full first-hand experience of this place, but that's just because, as of yet, I am untattoed. But I can say, from first-hand experience, that their work is brilliant. Two friends of mine got their tattoos there and they are really beautiful. And they didn't have any horror stories, either. Their skin didn't flake off or turn green. Their skin stayed exactly the colour it should've, minus the ink, of course.I think tattoo-parlours mainly get their rep from word-of-mouth. So, this mouth says that Red Hot + Blue Tattoo is good to go.  And the eyes attached to this head which has this mouth has seen the beautiful artwork they've produced. One of my friends got a stylized owl tattooed on her upper thigh, while my other friend had a feather he'd drawn himself (with a fountain pen) tattooed in brown ink (first for me there: I'd never seen a brown tattoo before). So, if you've decided that your skin's become quite boring and want to revamp it with some very permanent artwork, then give this place a chance. Read Less
