Gave Mick a picture....told him the story and said "i would like art and inspiration around it please"....He said he could do that but would prefer it if i did some research on it and then came back. That was the best piece of advise anyone has given me! One month later i went back and he 'waxed lyrical' about things he could now do with what I'd found out. I've had a remembrance piece done of my grandad....one, maybe two sittings left and what Mick's done is fantastic.... I would recommend his work to anyone....he's that popular though...you'll be waiting three/four months for an appointment (unless you can jump in on a cancellation). Word from the now wise though....he's very self opinionated and, if you do give him 'free reign'...he won't change his direction or alter anything he's doing ! I had a tattoo a few years ago that my wife designed which I really like. I went to see Mick to see if he could enhance and extend it. He wasn't sure to start with, then he gave it some thought and started to work his magic. After three sessions it looks brilliant. I can't wait for the next one. Had my first tattoo done today, I'm honestly so happy with the result, as well as the care that was put into making me feel comfortable. This is on behalf of my partner, he got a tattoo quoted as 4hours work, so decided to go ahead with the tattoo design they had agreed... they started the tattoo in the first session he booked 2 hours work 1 hour was spent drawing this up (was never told that this would happen) he had an hour of tattooing time if that after all the talking the tattooist had done. In the second session he booked again 2 hours work with again 1 hour spent drawing and talking...1 hour spent tatto...oing. He was left with the outline not even fully completed! And £300 down ( remembering he was originally quoted 4 hours work to have a completed tattoo) he emailed ,texted and several attempted phone calls that was left un answered stating that he wasn't happy with this and never received any message or acknowledgment back. This was last July still nothing! At the end of the 2nd session the tattooist informed him that to complete the tattoo he was looking at a further 8 hours (more than like not including talking and drawing time) so that would total 12 hours for a completed tattoo £840 later from our quote of 4 hours of £70 and hour. I had my first tattoo done at Shades of Gray, in August and October. I wasn't sure what to expect, having never had one before but Mick was great with his advise before hand. I wanted a tattoo of my dog who i had recently lost. I showed Mick the photo and he worked from that. The final result was just amazing and even now, 4 months after it was finished, i still can't stop looking at it. Absolutely overjoyed with it. Booked in for 2 memorial tattoos. Was greeted by Mick, went inside and chatted whilst he organised the shop. Downloaded a picture of what we thought would be good for the first tattoo which was a fishing lure. This was drawn on to my wrist in Biro. Took about an hour for that one. Whilst I went outside for a smoke Mick printed off a picture of an old school sun microphone and made the stencil the correct size. Took about 2 1/2 hrs in total for this one to be completed. Mick was pleasant & professional throughout my booking, the customers health & safety always come first in a tattoo studio! We chatted & joked about all kinds of things until I left.
