Always around 4 barbers at a time with a 10-20min wait time as it is quite popular with the university crowd. The wait, however, is worth it, as each one is equally skilled in cutting hair professionally. Byron did my hair and my beard today. It was the second time for me at Bennett and Merritt. The haircuts were both times perfect. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is really nice. This is the most outstanding barbers across the whole of the south coast and I can tell you, being part of a family of very vain men, a hell of a lot have been visited over the years!! The staff are great, the place is super clean and the cut is top class. Even my 8 year old son who suffers from a challenging health problem is happy visiting these guys and is always made feel welcome. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE I had been recommended to Bennett & Merritt as one of my friends said it was good. I Had my first haircut about 8/9 weeks ago, The cut was ok but nothing special and not what I really asked for. So I thought I would give Bennett and Merritt a second chance as my friend said it was probably an off day. As he has had before at bennett and Merritt. I went down for a second time only to get turned away over 2 hours before they said they closed. I look...ed on their social media and website to see if they had warned people they were closing early and I found nothing. There was only 2 waiting on the seats, I had just wasted money on a taxi to get to this barbershop. So silly me tried the next day. I waited for some time for my turn in the queue. Then one guy came in and jumped in front of me. Seemed like he was a mate of one of the barbers. Even the guy waiting behind me said something under his breath, I should of walked out then. When I sat in the chair I didn't really feel that comfortable having my haircut the barber had just said what can I do mate. I tried to explain myself and showed him a picture as I thought we couldn't go wrong with a picture. Well the barber wasn't concentrating on my hair what so ever and only spoke to me very occasionally, As he was too busy having a laugh with his co workers. I had a parting carved in to my head with a cut-throat razor and it felt sore as he was doing it. When I got home my girlfriend noticed I had loads of blood spotting in my parting and skin missing. For the rest of the week I had to keep putting cream on my head. I went around with scabs on my head it was very painful. He also scraped the back of my ear with the razor which is also sore. The barber must of noticed the marks but chose not to say anything. At the end the barber didn't even ask me if the haircut was ok just slapped a bit of clumpy product on and styled it as good as me (which isn't good) I felt so uncomfortable I just wanted to leave the barbershop. I have yet spoken to other friends that went to Bennett and Merritt and they have told me they do not go back as they do not get the attention they need as all the staff are all to busy talking and giggling with one another and not paying attention to the paying client who pays their wages. Felt like I was at the pub with a bunch of teenagers. I will definitely not be using this place again. "Unprofessional" I did try to ring Bennett and Merritt to raise my concern. At the end of their working day. So I didn't interrupt their work. So I didn't have to write this review. But again they must of shut shop before time I do not want a refund just wanted to let you know about my visit to bennett and Merritt. Very Poor customer service. See More Read Less

One of the best if not the best barber shops I've ever had the pleasure to visit. Wayne is an absolute top guy and his team are simply a-class and always made me feel welcome. Glen has been cutting my hair for years and gets it spot on every time. There's no way I'd go anywhere else. All the guys are excellent which is proven by how busy they get. That said, don't be put off by the queue, they work fast and still give a first class service, you won't wait long. Great haircuts, excellent banter and doesn't cost the earth. After struggling to find a barber shop that could give me the cut i wanted i stumbled across Bennett and Merritt. I had my hair done here around 3 months ago for the first time. Since then i have been back repeatedly every 4 weeks and have had a different barber every time! All 3 cuts i have received have been to a very high standard! Best Barbers in the Southampton area. I travel from Chandlers Ford just to get a cut here because its spot on every time and the banter is brilliant. Even when it's busy they always have plenty of lads on so the wait isn't bad & unlike most barbers all of them here can actually cut hair so it doesn't matter who you get. These guys consistently give the most high quality cut, bar none. On top of this; great atmosphere, friendly staff and fantastic value for money. I've honestly spent a lot of money on haircuts in the past and nothing has come close to the quality I get here.
