There was a Meeting of the Wanganui Mainstreet, held yesterday. Sadly it was devoid, of most of the local Businesses, it is said to represent.. Therefore, it would be prudent to say that Mainstreet, in general has the bulk of its decisions, decided by a little group, that have precious little, else to do with their time/s than attend Meetings. There were decisions re the costings of Street baskets, these seemed inordinantely costly, but apparently the Man responsible, for the supply of these for the last 10 years, was advised by his Accountant, that he needed to increase costs. This would seem to imply that Mainstreet, is controlled in some part my it's suppliers, Accountants. This in itself is ludicrous. Why not call the Work for Tender. Again it was an example of what the current Mayor Michael Laws has managed to stamp out, well almost. The Old Boys Network. All Groups such as this call work for Tender, somehow this whole thing semed very sketchy. Compounded with an overly enthuisatic, young Woman, that rambled on an on ad nostrum, the whole thing accomplished little. Mainstreet either has full support, from all its Rayepayers and Businesses or it has no place. Windfs its Books up and leaves all to the Wanganui District Council. No mention was made of ways to stop Street Crime or Graffitti, in the Mainstreet. Beautiful Baskets, cease to work with Graffitti around them. Read Less
