I had long wanted a Celtic Cross tattoo, but couldn't find an artist I liked in America, so I saved the idea for a later time. Finally, my travels were going to take me to Ireland, so where better to realize my dream of a Celtic Cross tattoo? I did some mild research online and landed on The Black Hat. As I only had a finite amount of time, I started communicating with the shop to set up a design plan and appointment. Communications were seamless even with the time difference. So right off the start, I was very impressed with their communication and willing to set something up so detailed, so far in advance.On the day I showed up on time and they were ready for me. I worked with Mr. James Kennedy on my design, placement, color, etc. James was awesome. There is no other way to put it. "Comfortable" would not be a word I would always associate with Tattooing, but that is exactly how James made me feel. Comfortable with the design, really taking ownership and time with it. Then, physically comfortable during the process, as the session lasted about 3 hours due to the intricate knotting. He was kind, receptive, relaxed, not rushed, and frankly, everything that I would want in a tattoo artist or human being.The final product is great. I could not possibly be happier with the entire experience. I would recommend this shop, and Mr. Kennedy, for any of your tattooing needs in Dublin, and more specifically, traditional Irish artwork. Thank you James, Cat, and everyone at Black Hat. I sincerely hope to see you all again someday.

Came in as a tourist a little under a year ago- made my appt through Yelp and was able to ask questions... they are very responsive. Great shop! Super friendly though I did see an apprentice who basically just traced simple images. She did a great job on both me and my fiancées tattoos and I'll recommend for anyone who wants something simple.

I've been to a few tattoo artists and asked for a cover up on my leg. I asked for vintage flowers in color to cover up with.
Most of them told me, only black is possible nothing...

I've been to a few tattoo artists and asked for a cover up on my leg. I asked for vintage flowers in color to cover up with.
Most of them told me, only black is possible nothing in color. One told me that I need a laser removal first.
So I went to Sergy and The Black Hat Tattoo Dublin.
He mentioned on his website, that a good artist should be able to do every style and the pictures published were amazing, too.
I explained what I want/need, Sergy looked at the old tattoo and said: Ok, no problem!
We made an appointment..and three month later...I got my tattoo..
It is absolutely amazing..more than I expected. Thank you so much!!!
I can't stop looking at it..
(Just looking not touching ;))
Highly recommended for sure..
And to be continued..
I already know what I want on my other leg.

We had the most amazing experience at The Black Hat Tattoo! Sergy and Lena are two of the friendliest and most professional people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. I sent a message to the Facebook page and Lena responded promptly. They were able to squeeze us in at the last minute and stayed open late so that we could get our tattoos done before leaving Dublin the next day. Lena even communicated with us via Facebook chat before we came in so that we had the design ready to go. They truly went above and beyond. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a tattoo in Dublin!

Sergy and Samara were amazing. My wife and I are in Dublin on honeymoon, and decided to get tattoos to commemorate this. We stopped in early in the week. Sergy booked me for Friday and said he would send me a design. The design was great. I told him my wife also wanted one and he set her up with Samara. Samara designed her tattoo on Friday and it came out great. The entire shop was relaxed and the experience was great. I will definitely go to black hat again next time I'm in Dublin.

On a Monday bank holiday, I had dinner at Arisu down the street with a whole bottle of sake all to myself. Finished eating/drinking and had walked by and noticed Black Hat Tattoo around the corner. Surprised they were open, I thought I'd inquire. No I wasn't drunk, nor did I have plans to get another tat, but I ended up getting one as we all do.To enter, you've gotta ring the doorbell as the artists are busy at work in the back. I believe there are only three of them working in the shop. I waited in the lounge area, and searched through all their books and magazines. I mean yeah, this was an impromptu decision so like everyone else, you don't know what you want unless you bring in your own design of course. The waiting area, by the way, is pretty comforting with it's couch and all fancy with the fireplace and decor. Now, about a design and decision, I thought I'd get something written. Not knowing what concept or font to use, I was helped by Samara, and we went through several unique fonts and ideas. I didn't want anything complicated nor did I want it to be too time consuming. A decision based on impulse, I found what I liked, and we began the process. I stuck with Samara as my artist, and we started with a base cost of €70. Kinda pricey, but I went along anyways. I chose a naked right arm to get tatted on. She cleaned me up, poked me for about 30 minutes and I was done. It didn't even hurt. Would I use her again? Most likely, but next time I'll bring a design.

Was vacationing in Dublin this past week and my boyfriend & I wanted to get tattoos while we were there (something to commemorate our 1st trip oversees). We stumbled upon this shop while researching where to go. Top notch experience all around. Lena was very quick (& so very nice) to respond & schedule appointments for us on such short notice. We walked in & were very impressed with look & cleanliness. Sergy sat down with us & discussed what we wanted & worked his magic. He was so very friendly, professional & clean. We both are beyond thrilled with our pieces ( more than what we expected them to be). We definitely plan on visiting Dublin again some day and will be sure to come back to see Sergy & Lena. If you are looking for an excellent artist, Sergy is your guy!

I'm currently in Dublin for the weekend. I emailed Black Hat as after some research i saw and loved their stuff. They were able to take me today and i was so nervous as it was my first tattoo in 5 years. Sergey was so good with talking to me about what I wanted, Lena explained everything and then Sergey began recreating a piece I loved but wasn't quite in love with YET! He spent a long time making sure that it was in the right angle/place as it was on the base of my wrist at ...the front. He started working and I could tell how much Sergey actually cared about what he was doing for me. It took almost 3 hours in total so I was a little sweaty by the end of it but Sergey was chatty/had a great sense of humour as were other staff/people and this really helped as a distraction when parts got tough to get through. This is my 5th tattoo and I'm from UK and this is the most professional, passionate tattoo I've ever had. It's always been a dream to get a tattoo done someone outside England and Sergey and the Black Hat team made it a damn pleasure and something I'll never forget. They even gave me a little memory Polaroid at the end which I will proudly put on my fridge when I get home. Thank you guys � See More

I chose a naked right arm to get tatted on. She cleaned me up, poked me for about 30 minutes and I was done. It didn't even hurt. Would I use her again? Most likely, but next time I'll bring a design.

Was vacationing in Dublin this past week and my boyfriend & I wanted to get tattoos while we were there (something to commemorate our 1st trip oversees). We stumbled upon this shop while researching where to go. Top notch experience all around. Lena was very quick (& so very nice) to respond & schedule appointments for us on such short notice. We walked in & were very impressed with look & cleanliness. Sergy sat down with us & discussed what we wanted & worked his magic. He was so very friendly, professional & clean. We both are beyond thrilled with our pieces ( more than what we expected them to be). We definitely plan on visiting Dublin again some day and will be sure to come back to see Sergy & Lena. If you are looking for an excellent artist, Sergy is your guy!

I'm currently in Dublin for the weekend. I emailed Black Hat as after some research i saw and loved their stuff. They were able to take me today and i was so nervous as it was my first tattoo in 5 years. Sergey was so good with talking to me about what I wanted, Lena explained everything and then Sergey began recreating a piece I loved but wasn't quite in love with YET! He spent a long time making sure that it was in the right angle/place as it was on the base of my wrist at ...the front. He started working and I could tell how much Sergey actually cared about what he was doing for me. It took almost 3 hours in total so I was a little sweaty by the end of it but Sergey was chatty/had a great sense of humour as were other staff/people and this really helped as a distraction when parts got tough to get through. This is my 5th tattoo and I'm from UK and this is the most professional, passionate tattoo I've ever had. It's always been a dream to get a tattoo done someone outside England and Sergey and the Black Hat team made it a damn pleasure and something I'll never forget. They even gave me a little memory Polaroid at the end which I will proudly put on my fridge when I get home. Thank you guys � See More
