(EDITED AFTER RESPONSE BY OWNER) I was told I could just walk in to get a small tat done at any time but instead chose to leave a deposit, to show that this was a done deal. In my experience, those that say you can walk in at any time are not that busy. I specifically asked if 24 hours notice was okay for cancellation as I had many things on the go... and was told that was fine. (though to be fair, on my printed recip it said 48 hours) I had to cancel once 25 hours in advance for my first appointment. I had to cancel twice on the day of the next appointment due to weather and I offered to pay a cancellation fee for the trouble. (I needed to shoot video outside for it and it was pouring rain all day--though the shop was aware I needed to shoot for it) Instead, Julia, the tat artist, informed me that they'd be taking the full $43--half the total cost of the work which she said would only take her ten minutes to do. My appointment was on a weekday, early afternoon. Having been in the shop twice, both times without any clients, and a few times peering through the window, they never had anyone inside considering time/day. I feel that taking the whole deposit was a cheap move when I was happy to pay a smaller fee and was booking times when I expected them to be less busy. The unedited version of the reply from Atomic below states I cancelled twice withing 15 minutes of the time. I have email stamps showing 25 hours for the first time and over two hours ahead of the second cancellation. This is important if you expect to be dealing with someone inking you for life. My take is simply that tats aren't like hair cuts. People don't need them every day. Artists need to overcharge to make up for lack of demand. $80 for ten minutes of work? I'm sure they have to clean things and prep but this is looking at close to lawyer fees. And sure, cancelling a $500+ tattoo is leaving a block of hours in a busy persons day. But that's not the case for something taking 10 minutes. :) I'm not saying I was not in the wrong. I'm just saying that middle ground can be found.The reality is that the interaction with this artist, Julia, was lackluster. Hit me up to get the emails if you are doubtful. I'm not looking for my money back. I don't look for trouble. But maybe you're the type who likes positive vibes. And this inked "haircut" just doesn't seem worth the trouble. I had the most positive experience and would recommend this tattoo shop to anyone who wants to get a tattoo in an unpretentious, inviting, down-to-earth environment, this is the place. For a woman considering some new ink, this is the place to go. I have used three other shops in Peel Region, and scouted a several others - one of which being another female-owned location. While two of the others were also clean and brightly-lit, Atomic Cherry immediately dispelled any anxiety or nervousness that comes from being an average person not familiar with the 'tattoo-verse'. And, of course, it's 'testosterone-free'. Then there's the retro-aesthetic of the shop that in a cool way is a reflection of the ideals that the Bren Gun Girl, Veronica Foster (the precursor to the US's Rosie the RIviter) represented. Julia Madeleine transformed my idea for a tattoo into a design that captured what I was looking for. Her work-space was clean, and the entire process totally sanitary.She worked quickly but I did not feel as if I was just a body part being worked on.
