Several years ago now I reeceived a tattoo from Janette Rawding at Oceanic. The art itself is a very high-quality and has aged into an excellent tattoo. The shop was clean, and very well-maintained and the prices were affordable. It was quite hot that day, so some better temperature control might be in order. However, the biggest take away for me was how comfortable and engaged I was in the process. Customer service wasn't fantastic, the artist I had wore headphones and wasn't too socialable so not great for those who are nervous. However, very talented, amazing artists, affordable. I would recommend this place to those who've been tattooed before and know more what to expect. Read Less

I've gotten two coverups done here, one by Jan, one by Scott, and they are both incredible. You can't even tell they're coverups! Everyone here is so sweet and I keep their sticker on my car as well as recommending them to anyone I speak with who's contemplating getting a tattoo. I had Rooly do my tattoo + he done my son's and a friend of his. Excellent line work and I really liked the fact that when he took me to his work space I was able to see him clean everything and that the needles were new. HIGHLY recommend!!! Read Less

I had my first tattoo done here and the entire experience was great. I asked the lady at who would be avalible and great with scripts. She then showed me some work done by Rooly and I was blown away. Rooly showed me a couple examples of what he was thinking and I scheduled in for the following day. I was not dissappointed Rooly came up with an excellent design totally custom and 3.5 hours later his masterpiece was complete. Very talented helpful staff. Clean environment ... Oceanic Art lacks respect and understanding for clientele and their needs. They are not upfront or professional, and would rather take clients money versus decline a tattoo when they have no interest in providing good personable service. The owner Scott Forbes was very stressed for time and did not want to be in the shop. The service was poor; there was no interest or heart put into providing a welcoming space, only frustration on his end in relation to time, and time away from his kids that got transferred over to me and the time involved with my tattoos. He was very unprofessional not only for dishonoring the price quoted for the tattoos, but for his negative and disrespectful attitude after the payment was received. It was a surprisingly horrible experience. I would never recommend a shop that verbally puts down and seeks to denigrate their client. I was here for the $5 Canada day tattoos. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have stopped in. I have a place that I usually stick with, but for $5 I can branch out. I'm very happy I did!  I spent more time waiting around inside the shop than most, so believe me when I say it's comfortable and nice in there. Everyone working was super friendly, polite and talkative. That's saying a lot since they were serving and tattooing hundreds of people that day and I was around one of the last people to get in.  All the artist working are very talented, and each offer a different style of tattooing. My husband and I stopped in here a few weeks ago during the Switch Open Street fest in August. I had always wanted a tattoo but never knew what or where I would get. We stopped in just to get information and pricing. Janette was at the desk when we went in and she was incredibly helpful. After going home and mulling over the information I decided on a tattoo that I wanted and I emailed Jan right away and we set up an appointment. She was just as friendly and helpful through email as she was in person.I went to get my tattoo on a Friday evening - she kept the shop open late for me so I could get it done as soon as possible. I walked in and the shop was clean and inviting. As a first-timer I didn't feel intimidated or looked down upon or judged at all. It was great to just be able to walk in and get a small tattoo and have the artist encourage you and make sure you're okay.I left with an amazing tattoo - albeit small and simple - but it certainly makes me want to go back. We had a lot of laughs and I felt very comfortable and at ease the entire time I was there. Tattoo shops are a hard one, you never really know until you go yourself but lucky for me my friend had been many times and ensured it was top notch! I was initially going to support my friend in her newest tattoo, when I realized I had been planning one for years and may as well just do it! Nothing big so I called to see if there was an appointment available at the same time. Jan, the artist, answered and informed me she was actually coming in early to do my friends and no one else was there. She then asked what it was I wanted and quickly agreed to include me in the appointment. (both our tattoos were small) I was so excited we went 2 days later and she was fantastic! I had emailed her my script prior so she had it all ready in various size ranges so we could pick. She was quick, professional and very thorough to make sure they were the best product. The space was clean, welcoming and made everything easy on you. (which I think is a great quality in a Tattoo shop) The only thing, as with most tattoo places, is it takes CASH ONLY. So be sure to bring the dough....but it is SURE worth it! I'm sure I will be back for more! Read Less

I got my fourth tattoo done here and was really impressed. The tattoo I wanted was really specific font wise and the artist drew it up by hand and it was simply perfect. We spent at least 30minutes putting the stencil on so that it was exactly where I wanted it. I never felt rushed or out of place which is awesome. I've never had a tattoo but if I ever got one it'd be done here. I came here recently with my girlfriend who has had three of her four tattoos done here. After having a bad experience at a shop in Halifax, I decided to check out a shop Oceanic Art Tattoo in Dartmouth on. I met with John the owner, he was super nice...we agreed to do my my chest piece the next morning at 8 am. The next day I arrive and John had everything ready to go. No wait or anything, it was really great of him to be ready for me. It only took him a less then 3 hours to do my tattoo and it turned out amazing, I am really happy with it.I would recommend Oceanic Art to anyone who wants a tattoo, The shop is really nice and clean and the artists do great work. The negative thing I can say is that John was a little brash, and kind of cranky, and that my tattoo in the end  was $60 more then what I was I told the day before, and that they don't take debit. I had to go to Scotia Bank up the street and take money out to be able to pay. Make sure you have enough to pay for your tattoo before you go. Read Less
