Editing to add that the business owner attempted to rectify this by leaving out information when reposting to her facebook group (note that it is a group and not a page, which does not offer customers the option to leave reviews). This is not a reflection on the piercer, but rather on the quality of the BUSINESS and business owner. This company possesses zero professionalism. After years of going here for both tattoos and piercings, I will not be returning. They offer "free piercing" changes, and say that you can bring your own jewelry - this is a blatant lie; brought in my own jewelry, was told it was "cheap", "garbage" and "dangerous" (it was made of titanium) and they refused to change my piercing. Fine. I respect the opinion of a reputable piercing artist, and I understand that fashion jewelry often looks "cheap" BUT specs could have been checked out, validity could have been proven, and in no world should my request had been refused. Most importantly, I will not stand to have the receptionist be blatantly rude and belittle myself, and my friends. She was unfriendly from the moment we walked in the door, told us "yeah that's gonna have to wait" when we mentioned what service we were looking for, and then continued to pass judgment about both the length of time we waited before changing our piercings (one year, by the way), and the jewelry itself. Overall, it is very apparent Studio Maxx is only in this business for the money, as they have the monopoly in the piercing industry in St. John's. I believe the real reasons we were turned away is because of a) how busy it was and b) because we didn't want to purchase from their location. I will no longer recommend this studio to anybody. All around unprofessional.There might be some talent there in a couple of artists, but the attitude there seems to be that the client doesnt matter, but if they can make a quick buck off of you, they will. I dont know if its management, the owners, or the artists, but the place doesnt care about its clients or their bodies... I loved the sign they had hung up inside the waiting area, "Dont Pass Out".  Shows the professionalism to expect here. Maybe Studio Maxx should show an ounce of compassion, its the clients that are putting up their trust and their money, maybe you should take care of them??Got a piercing there when i was younger and they were downtown, that went fine. Since then ive gone in looking for a tattoo for myself, first one. Called up, went in, saw the lady at the front, but apparently I was an inconvenience to the available artist. Showed him a picture of the subject matter I was interested in and he just threw up his arms "well by' I dunno if I can do that, I dont know how I would tattoo that"It was a simple space theme. I diidnt have any concrete idea and I was ok with whatever artistic flourish. But he just didnt want to talk to me. Some other artists chimed in and said they could look another time, and he finally said "well i suppose I can do it by', but I dont know how it will turn out"... so I noped out of there.Last (and final) time I went there was for my wife. Tattoo. Long story short they lost her appointment. There were 4 or 5 artists sitting around drawing and chatting, but again it was a massive inconvenience to them just to speak with us in the slightest (even though the only reason I was there was for an appointment that they lost). One of them finally took some initiative and asked my wife what she was looking for, said she would call us in a couple of days. 2 weeks later we got the tattoo (a $1300 piece) at another shop and I still have yet to here back from that artist at Studio Maxx.Avoid this place like the plague. Writing this review on behalf of my mother. She had an appointment booked through Studio Maxx with Sean to have a small piece completed. She gave a deposit for her date and waited a month to get in. Today, she showed up for her appointment time and was told by the front desk staff that Sean was in doing someone elses tattoo and would be there until close. They argued with her that she was not booked for that time until she showed them her confirmation email from Sean which shut them up. My mother then said if she wasn't going to get her tattoo completed at this time, that she would like her money back (a reasonable request since the service wasn't being provided for the deposit she paid). They asked Sean and he was not willing to return the deposit. He wouldn't even come out to talk to my mother to discuss this issue. My mother waited for 30 minutes until the boss agreed to return her deposit to appease her. She is completely disgusted with the service she received and would not recommend to anyone. Read Less

Worked here for 16 years and thought that at the very least my clients and emails would get forwarded to me at the shop I opened up with my partner john pincent, but we have not recived not one email and we r being told by our clients that studiomaxx isn't telling them where we have gone. There trying to keep them at that location I am not pleased to find out this information at all as I help build the repuation of that shop tremendously. I've wanted my nose pierced for some time now and on a vacation to St Johns I finally worked up the courage to get it done. No rhyme or reason as to how I ended up at Studio Maxx- I tried yelping piercing shops however none of them had ratings or reviews. Studio Maxx was on the top 5 list though so it warranted a Google search. They have a very easy to read/informative website which I enjoyed- the other place I debated going actUally lost out on my business because of their terrible website or lack there of.As far as finding the place- I found it a little difficult. Getting to the location was easy (map app for the win!!) but it isn't one of the front shops in the plaza and I actually had to make a few loops around the area until I finally saw their sign. Once you find it you go inside to find a stairwell, up you climb and voila you're there! Once inside you notice how spacious and tidy it is. Painted a nice sassy shade of red you find a large waiting area furnished with delightfully cozy leather seats and sofas. To the left is the reception area which was a very busy place between phone calls for appointments and people walking in to make appointments. This speaks well for business so that was a plus! (Also note these guys are booked welllllllll in advance so if you need work of a time consuming nature to be done- make sure you call ASAP!) I also noticed that a lot of people were returning customers asking for their artist by name. I really enjoyed that kind of dedication. Back to reception- once I got to speak with the guy at the desk he asked me what I wanted done. I told him a nose piercing. Immediately he asked me to verify my age and even made me produce ID *noting that I am well over the age of consent. From there I filled out a very ground covering intake form. The guy working the desk was super nice and got lots of information. I was a walk in so I knew wait time could vary and there were a few other people ahead of me. Ready to be in it for the long haul- I wasn't there 15 minutes and I got called in. I got pierced by Allan. He was AWESOME! He explained the entire procedure very thoroughly and even placed a dot on where he was going to put it to make sure I liked the location. Being my first piercing I had a ton of questions regarding pain to which he assured me it wouldn't be bad. He grabbed the supplies from a cupboard *I would like to note how CLEANLY this place this. I was so impressed. Right down to spraying down the chair you sit in. All the supplies from the cupboard were packaged and sealed to be used only once. Even the clamp which in my opinion is something that could probably be sterilized but I was super impressed/appreciative of it. He set me up and before I knew it it was over. 99% painless and I had a nose ring :) I was so excited! After the piercing he was EXTREMELY thorough as to how to properly care for it to avoid infection. I got the saline spray (vegan and paraben free- yay!) and he gave me a sheet with how to care tips. Told me I could call him anytime and away I went. I was so impressed with Studio Maxx! I would recommend any of the fine people in St Johns to make their way here for any and all tattoo/piercing needs. Thanks a ton Allan- I love it :) Read Less
