My first tattoo was with Lauren. I had one of my students design the tat and gave the design to her for my back. I didn't realize she had tweaked the design when she showed me a preview - I was in a hurry and simply glimpsed at it, thinking obviously she was going to keep the design I had sent her. I had to get to re-touched due to big portions of the original design that's been changed, and it still does not have the look I was going for. It's pretty upsetting if you thinking about it: it's pretty permanent. Then I just came back from my second tattoo appointment and decided this is definitely not the place for me. I asked Lauren to design a tat for me this time two months prior to my tat appointment. She said yes, and although I waited for over a month, I didn't hear back from her. So I messaged her again as a reminder, which she didn't respond to. A week prior to the appointment, I messaged her again, because I wanted to make sure I liked the design and if she didn't have it ready, to see if I could change the date of my appointment early. To this she replied saying that it was the policy to show the design the day prior to the appointment (this puzzles me, becuase what if I don't like the design?). So I waited until the day before the appointment, where I did not receive any designs - ha! When I walked into my appointment today, she said she's been trying to call me (I've only been out of the house for an hour prior to this, because I was DRIVING TO THE SHOP), and that she actually didn't have the design finished. She asked if I could come in later, to which I said I couldn't until the evening (she wanted me to come in at 3pm but I couldn't until 6pm). When I did walk in at 6pm, she was too busy to see me until 6:30pm, and when I showed me the design, lo and betold, I did not like it. So I asked if she could just add a few strands of berries to the edges, which apprently took her another hour to do. Now, it's 7:30pm and I still wasn't sure about the design. I mean, I liked it but it didn't call out to me in a way that I would happily get the design on my shoulder permanently. I told her so. She said the parlor closed at 8pm and it was unlikely we'll get the whole thing done at this rate. To which I was like "Well, it was delayed because..." and didn't specify. It was delayed because she had not given me the design in advance despite prior notice and inquiries about it, and it was delayed because she hadn't been ready with the design at the designated appointment time. She replied, "It was delayed because I couldn't get a hold of you." I was a little baffled. She tried to get a hold of me AN HOUR before the appointment, and was blaming the whole design issue on me! It was supposed to be done THE DAY BEFORE this appointment. She also told me I couldn't get my $100 deposit back because I was her only appointment today and I was cancelling on her. I find this ridiculous, as I am a person and obviously had plans for the day other than the tat appointment, and it wasn't my fault she said she'd design the tattoo and didn't actually have it done. If she had told me she wouldn't be ready, I would have designed it myself, or gotten someone else to do it for me, or would have delayed the appointment much earlier when I had the chance. Obviously, I'm not coming back here for a next time, and unless you want to wait around for 30min to an hour at least before your tat appointment actually starts, I don't recommend you to make an appointment with her, either.
