Terrible customer service! 4 different people in my family have had tattoos done by Bob over the years, and I myself have had 3 -they are great! Still vibrant colour and holding up very well. The last time my sister and I went into the shop, both looking to get fairly simple tattoos, the guys were complete jerks. I first told them what I wanted to get done and they proceeded talk to each other (in front of us) about how they thought it would look stupid placed where I wanted it. They then printed out a rough copy so they could stencil it on me to SHOW ME that it would look dumb. We were both so disgusted with their behavior that my sister didn't even tell them that she wanted a tattoo because there was no way in hell we would let any of them touch us with a needle. We left and went to another studio down the street where the artist was more than happy to give us what were looking for. I can say that I am VERY pleased with the work I got done just how I wanted it. I understand that it is your art walking around the city, but its walking around on your customers body. Try giving them what they want for a change boys. No member of my family will ever go back to Universal Tattoo which is a shame because Bob does such amazing detail. Read Less

Nice and profesional but poor customer service... got 3 piercings done. 2 earlobes and one nostril. One of the earlobes was like 1mm apart from the one I already had (so I can't wear 2 pieces of jewelry). I went 6 times and the closed between 1 to 2 hours early of what the website says... so finally when I went first thing In the morning. They said I needed to pay again to get the one earlobe fixed.... like what!? You made a mistake... you were the one who didn't see where the old piercing was... and yet he wanted me to pay. Good customer service and some great artists. We came here for Randy, who has done great work on us. Wish Victoria had more real late night scene but that is Victoria. I recently received  the worst and most painful tattoo experience at Universal tattooing. The artist was quite rude and belittled me in front of other patrons because I was slightly indecisive and didn't like the first peice he drew. ( the proportions were all wrong and it looked very amateur but I was still polite about it ).I decided to still give him a chance ...big mistake !!First the guy neglected to shave the area being tattooed which can cause ingrowns and irritation.Then quite obviously went WAY too deep because it was excruciatingly painful unlike any tattoo I'v ever had ( I have 5 decent sized pieces ) And it bleed alot during the process and continued to bleed for over an hour after which is not supposed to happen. ( And no I had not been drinking or taking anything that would thin my blood ) When he was done he taped a piece of paper towel to my leg and sent me off. PAPER TOWEL !!! Within 15 minutes after walking out of the shop the area was soaked in blood and the paper towel stuck in the wound. Well by the next day it was oozing and swelling up and by day 3 I was so swollen I could hardly walk and had to go to the doctors where I was put on intense antibiotics to save my foot. It's been over a month and the area is still sore !!The owner was very nonchalant about the whole thing and offered me nothing, not even an apology or compensation of any sort.  Now I have this awful scarred up amateur embarrassment of a tattoo for the rest of my life.Thanks Universal !!! The piercer totally fucked up my nose peircing after having to get it redone. He charged meFull price and gave me the tiniest stud that is sinking into my nose. Woke up with dried blood all around it currently freaking out, not friendly would not recommend. Read Less

Yesterday I went in to get a memorial tattoo for my dad and once again Douglas did an amazing job! I've got two tattoos so far by him and I absolutely love both! Can't wait to get more ink done. I had my industrial done, and while the piercer was wonderfully friendly and made sure everything was sanitary, he didn't double check the placement with my glasses, and even seemed to brag about how efficient he was with this piercing. It seemed as though I was an inconvience to him and I now have to deal with extra pain, and problems with healing. I will not be returning to this shop. Read Less

I wanted to get a tattoo that I had designed. It was a black and red Ying-Yang with my girl friends and my names.  The owner said that all the artists were busy, but he would do it.  I know that the red lettering on black background should be a little thicker because the black will bleed into the red.  So I made the red lettering bigger.  The black lettering I left the way it was.  So the owner, I think his name is Bob, transferred the image onto my arm and I told him what colors go where.  He was confident that he understood and agreed that the red lettering should be thicker/bigger because of the ink bleed.  Well, it was a little difficult to see what he was doing and when was finished, he showed me.  He got it wrong.  He mixed up the colors.  He said that it should be OK, but if it did bleed then I should come back in and he'd try to fix it.  I waited until it healed as per his advice and yes the black did run into the red lettering.  When I returned, he had no idea who I was and didn't recognize doing my tattoo.  He said that he would touch it up or fix it, but I'd have to get another tattoo, because it wasn't worth his time.  I said "F*&K THAT!" Why should I pay him to fix his mistake.  So I strongly suggest not going to this place.  Tattoos are for life unless you have the money to get them removed and can go through the pain.  Now I have to live with a bad permanent image on my body. After being stood up by the 4 More guys in Langford, I was more than a little annoyed to have to drive into Victoria in order to achieve my goal of getting my special tattoo on 11/11. Well, after just talking with them on the phone I knew Universal was a better choice anyway! So friendly and such positive energy. Arriving just solidified the impression. Great people who were 100% pro, n clearly value their customers! (Yeah,take that 4 More!) My first tattoo, very specific and... done by bossman Bob. He was awesome!! My tattoo is stunning. I had a dinner at 530, the tatt done about 245 and no one could believe it was brand new, it looked so good. Even my son said, "it's like art...looks like a painting." ;-) This decision was a long time coming and very meaningful to me. My let down in the morning led to an even better experience.
