i had some work started in floating world a couple of yeras back before the place got shot up and the work never got done.Luckily Carson was open to helping me finish my work after assessing what had been done and made the tattoo better than I could ever have imagined. to be fair- floating world tattoo had a great design, but everything else was mediocre at bestCarson is talented, very skillful, humble, and did very efficient. He wrapped me up after the session and gave great advice.I wish Carson was here back in 2008 when i first started my tattoo, I would have stuck with him all the way through (Jeff was way too busy and booked up back then)the work was two half sleeves with chest plates. so it was probably around 8-10 hours of work that Carson helped me with. Jeff's work speaks for itself. He's an incredibly talented artist as are the other artists in the shop. Besides the quality of work out of Monkey King Tattoo another strength of the shop is professionalism. Emails are returned, calls are answered and artwork is provided for viewing which in my optioning is just as important to the customer who is making not only a substantial monetary investment but one in their bodies. Was recommended to Jeff but since he was booked months in advanced he referred me to Carson. And Carson was great. Under Jeff's guidance, Carson collaborated with me and designed a nice cover up on my shoulder that's now almost a half sleeve.Great service, communication and value. The occasional smell of smoke can be a bit a bit much though. But overall, a clean place. Great Asian artwork. Definitely recommend. Read Less

Came here in one time in search of some Asian style work, 1 year later my half sleeve is almost done! Even though it's still a work in progress, I get compliments on it left, right, and centre with people asking me who did it. Carson (Jeff's apprentice) is a great, down to Earth artist with a great sense of humour too, which certainly helps pass the time for longer sessions. I can't wait to get a full backpiece from him once I can afford it. Ah, how tattoos are a luxury after all. Jeff himself has a pretty long waiting list if you want to get a tattoo from him. Billy Decola from NY Ink (never watched the show myself) also works here now. If it is a large scale Japanese piece you're after, whether traditional or new style, this is your shop!To take your mind off the pain, Jeff has two of the most chill and cuddly dogs hanging around that love to be petted.Want to make that awesome cover-up you're planning easier? One of the best places to get an Asian tattoo done! Jeff, tattoo artist and owner of the shop, is so talented, super nice and so easy going. There is always a wait list for his work and rightfully so, he does amazing pieces (see his photos!). The shop has been renovated since I was there last (2010) and the shop is more open concept, beautiful artwork and set up, just makes you feel comfortable. If you happen to need a tattoo removed, don't worry, there is even an in-hous...e ink removal service by InkOFF. Although, I personally haven't been tattooed by Jeff (I have a few friends who have been); I have been inked by his guest tattoo artist, Mica from Detroit Diesel Tattoo Works Japan and she is super awesome! Both tattoos from Mica get a lot of attention and people are always asking me who and where. Also at the shop is an apprentice name Carson who also looks super talented and is in good hands learning from Jeff. The shop is always busy and if you can get in, I say book it and just do it! Life sized body art paintings are canvassed on the walls... all created by Jeff Tam. He is the mastermind behind this already popular tattoo parlour.  He's worked for Art at (the infamous) Funhouse for many years before leaving to make his own (ink)print in the tattoo world.  Travelling for years in Japan and across Europe to learn and practice with some of the greatest. When I met Jeff for the first time, it was an instant connection. I loved his groovy reggae tunes blasting from his ipod, his very chill and relaxed demeanour and his humbleness of what fantastic work he is capable of doing.  His store is immaculate, décor asian inspired.  I already had my left shoulder done with a dragon and wanted to give it a 'companion' by tattooing a lion on the opposite side of my back. I explained to him the meaning behind my choice and then he was off.  Throwing out ideas and how and what it should look like.  Everything he suggested I loved so I gave him full artistic reins of what he wanted to do.  Best decision I made...just look at the photo I post up.  It was his idea to add the clouds and moon around the dragon and have the lion climbing up out of the flower onto the rock towards the sky to clearly distinct the difference between land and air creature.  It took 3 different sessions...and probably a total of 5-6 hours of work done. I chose to stay with the black and grey shades but his colored tattoos are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen.One of the things about Jeff that makes me respect him so much as an artist, is that he has no problem refusing clients and sending them on their way if they come in with a silly request like a "winne the pooh" tattoo or is getting something done for the sake of it. I asked him why, and he says its because he is an artist and as an artist, doesn't want to have his work on somebody's body that doesn't have meaning or represent what he wants to put out there.. he also takes whatever 'idea' or picture of what someone wants, and adds his own 'spin' to it...basically making it his own.  Don't worry people, whatever he touches, will turn out to be a masterpiece.
