Got a tattoo here for the first time! Absolutely love it! everyone here was super friendly, and the front desks was very helpful as well. The only thing is that the protection sheet they put after my tattoo is done somehow fell off 10mins after I left the store. I was so worried but it turns out fine (hopefully!) I highly recommend this place. Liquid amber tattoo is very clean and the artists make sure everything gets disinfected and protected before each customer. I've gotten one tattoo and one sleeve from the magically majestic Shannon O'Shea and SHE IS THE BEST! She has lots of experience tattooing neo-traditional. She is also very patient when it comes to connecting with me on what I wanted design-wise and very knowledgeable on symbolism and wiccan culture. She is the only person I want doing my future tattoos from. Her style is elegant with clean lines and looks great in black and gray or colour. She does it all! She takes her time to make sure everything is properly sanitized and clean before your tattoo session, which I am very thankful for. And this place even has blankets and pillows so you can be as comfortable as possible. Cannot recommend her enough! You get for what you pay for and my tattoos are worth every penny.Shannon is such a cool person too, she makes you at ease when you are getting her work done. Here's the thing, my ink is insanely awesome and you can see that without being told, and it comes down to one hell of a talented artist who really cares. Justina doesn't just put tattoo's on people, this is art, and she is incredibly passionate about it. I can say that because I sat in that chair for enough hours to learn that about her and now I walk around with this art on me 24/7 and I couldn't be more stoked. I had my tattoo done with Justina, a full colour sleeve from w...rist to shoulder/armpit. And below are my semi sarcastic / funny cons of working with Justina on a tattoo. Pay close attention people, this could happen to you. Cons #1: Random strangers stop me everywhere I go and ask me about my ink, and some even ask to take pictures. I even had one guy on mushrooms try to lick the colours on my arm because I'm guessing he thought they had flavour. CON #2: I am afraid to go get inked somewhere else, this fear has been instilled in me because my artist did such an amazing job and she plays the best tunes while inking. What if another artist had a crappy playlist? I don't think I could sit through that. CON #3: Justina stabbed me with needles trillions of times over the course of roughly 50-60 hours, and then laughed about it. CON #4: Justina never warned me that tattooing the underarm, in so many different colours is going to hurt like mad, in fact I sat for about 4.5 hours straight getting my underarm / armpit tattooed, going over the same area's over and over again blending colours in, and I feel Justina only got joy out of my pain. But then again, so did I in the end.... You know maybe this one was a Pro instead of a Con, but I'll keep going anyway. CON #5: After the first few sessions, before the sleeve started coming together, people made fun of my half done ink because they couldn't visualize the full picture, this made me feel defensive and motivated me to cram in as many sessions as I could to get my sleeve done in a short amount of time. After my tattoo was finished they where dying of jealousy, so the tables turned eventually. CON #6: People are annoying, and I hate talking to them, see CON #1.. CON #7: Now that I have so much colour in my skin, I feel like a rainbow. I used to be European descent and now I'm like a box of lucky charms cereal. wtf? See More Read Less

Poor customer service, but i can only say this one artist. Before a consultation you have to email and provide images for a cover up or what idea you want. So to drive all the way across the city for the artist to not to know anything about your tattoo then be advised they don't do cover ups is a waste of my time and theirs and unprofessional. I have no issue with the artist not taking on the tattoo, but to not know anything about or the other tattoo i was hoping to get as well just leaves customers feeling let down. i didn't get the chance to talk about the other 4 bits of work I wanted doing either. Liquid Amber was recommended to me from a past client and sadly this guest artist has left me with a tarnished image. I loved my experience at Liquid Amber today! I have been waiting a long time to get an old tattoo fixed up and I heard great things about Liquid Amber from multiple people. I had a horrible experience at a previous tattoo shop years ago and honestly I felt a bit like damaged goods.After social media stalking for a while I decided to book in with Crystal, who is not only a talented artist but made my experience (that I was really looking forward to) personal, relaxed and all round good vibes... Who knows, maybe I will get a sleeve done now!! I feel I have a found a place and people I can trust that are straight up good at what they do. My husband and I love them! Have had two tattoos, both done with Milo and he is not only charming but a damn good artist! My hubby has had Milo as well but also one from Crystal and he is thrilled with both. I also have to say I love Crystal's art, I purchased a mandala piece last time I was there and can't wait for her to do a mandala tattoo on me one day. I would say 4.5 to 5 stars. Although it was my first tattoo and it was very straight forward what I wanted, I wasn't contacted or notified what my tattooed look like. Going to the shop I was nervous I came in about an hour early and I was showed the tattoo drawings for both tattoos made adjustments it was all great! I was tattooed by Ashley Horncastle! She is the sweetest person ever. She really made me feel comfortable in the chair and was telling me if I had to stop let her know. It was a great experience. Everyone at the shop was nice and friendly. The shop is kinda small but it's a great place to go. Overall I definitely recommend people to go here they have great artist! When I decided that I want to get a coverup done of two older tattoos, I did some research and contacted what I thought was the best shop based on reviews. They never contacted me back. So I contacted a different shop, also highly reviewed, and their consult process was limited to one night a week. I knew I would never be able to get an appointment at the shop on their time schedule. So I went back to researching. I came across Liquid Amber and I'm so glad that I did. I must have emailed them 15 times and they replied to each email. The consult process was easy and getting an appointment was easy too. No huge waitlist that most shops in Vancouver boast. That might not be for long though with Liquid Amber thanks to these great reviews the shop is getting. Ashley did my tattoo. Super lovely woman. Fun and very willing to help you with ideas. She was just amazing. I can't express how happy I am with my tattoo. It's so colourful and it's more than I ever dreamed of. It's just glorious! I'll smile every time I look down at the tattoo. Ashley also touch up an older tattoo while I was there. It was so nice to be able to have both tattoos done at the same time. Milo did my tattoo and the lines are inconsistent going thick then thin in some spots, it is crooked and way off center (it's on my wrist) me and a friend called to see if there was a last minute spot the day of for tattoos we had wanted , bad idea. He placed the stencil on my wrist and it seemed like it wasn't in the perfect place so I asked him to take it off and move it, then to take it off and move it again, I could tell he was super annoyed so I just said that it was alright I guess, and he started tattooing.. being a tattoo artist don't u think you should try to make it perfect and ... NOT CROOKED? Milo was complaining that he hadn't eaten all day , making me feel guilty and awkward about being a walk in client. He kept saying how he couldn't wait to get off work to hang out with his boyfriend and i was his last client so i felt like he rushed it. I have two tattoos from these guys (er, gals) and I love them both. I had found them a few years ago on Yelp with superb ratings but not a whole lot of reviews. I checked out their website and was impressed with the quality of work. I spend a lot of time checking out tattoos and found their books to be among some of the top in Vancouver. Above all that, I just love that it's a female-operated studio. For my first tattoo, I reached out to the shop via email and sent a description of what I'm looking for and some  reference illustrations. I explained I wasn't sure which artist would be best for what I was looking for and asked for a recommendation. I got a call back within a couple days and talked through my idea. Genevieve was great on the phone and I felt very positive about my upcoming appointment which was made with Rene. Six months after I had gotten my tattoo, I contacted the shop and asked for a consultation to review my tattoo. Although I loved it and the execution was great, there was something about my original design that I felt I could enhance. Upon consultation, Rene agreed and drew up a couple options for how we might be able to address it. She was extremely professional and gracious about the updates to the tattoo and was able to add the additional detail I was looking for. For my second tattoo, I requested Kylie for her color work. After a very long wait list, I finally got my turn. Again, we communicated over email as I sent inspiration links and chatted through the drawing that Kylie produced. Minor tweaks and it was perfect. Two sessions later, this tattoo was bold and brilliant on my arm. It's incredibly well done. Over a year later, it's still one of my most complimented pieces. Kylie is one of the most talented artists I've gotten to work with. If you have any chance to get on her list, it's worth the wait even over a year out. I have always found the shop to be inviting and cozy. Exposed brick wall, small space -- enough for just three artists to work at once. Most importantly, there is no rack of bad clip-art tattoos that you could choose from. No, this shop does original artwork only -- even if you want something very generic. I love this aspect of the shop. The artists are professional and friendly. Their prices are fair. They are great about communication, confirming you understand aftercare instructions, and ensuring you're comfortable. I've seen them place blankets on customers who felt chilly during their ink session. Great shop, great work, great service. If you're getting a tattoo, I can't recommend Liquid Amber enough. While I've only had tattoos done at two other studios and at a private home studio, this is hands down, the best tattoo studio I've been to in Vancouver. From the woman at reception to the artist I had, which was Ashley, I didn't once feel like...1. ...I was regarded as just a one-time "give us your money, here's your tattoo and get out" visitor. I feel like I've been treated that way at other studios but not here. The tiny studio makes for friendly chit chat among visitors, artists and clients.2. ...that my healthy and safety was at risk. I watched Ashley thoroughly clean and sanitize her work station and tools before my appointment.3. ...that I was ripped off. So I got my first tattoo ever. It's taken a long time for me to do it and some people have said 'why, at your age?!' I'll show them. GrrrrI had contacted them months before and they gave me a lot of information via email so that I was prepared for what was to come.The parlour itself is a clean and fun environment. Jenny was great, helpful and very reassuring that it wasn't going to hurt and that it looked good. I have a number of tattoos, but for my largest piece I went looking around the city flipping through every portfolio I could get my hands on. I came across Jeremy at Liquid Amber and absolutely adored his style. After a brief consultation, which I wasn't super clear about because I mostly just wanted his take on my idea. It is perfect. The first mock-up he gave me was absolutely fabulous and my tattoo is incredible. It's not finished, mostly because I am a huge wimp, but it will be soon. I highly recommend Jeremy he has a great eye and style, is super friendly and a great artist. Having only gotten a small and incredibly simple tattoo here, I can't comment effectively on the skill set of the people working here.When I went to book my appointment, I kind of thought they might be able to squeeze me in pretty soon, but I didn't get an appointment for over a week, even though the shop didn't look busy at all (only one person was getting a tattoo at the time that I went to book and there were at least three other people milling around socializing.)The girl who did my tattoo just traced the hand drawn picture that I brought and I ended up with a blatantly imperfect stencil transfer that she didn't even ask about before drawing.The place itself was really sterile and everyone was civil, but not friendly.The tattoo was done in a timely manner and healed up really well. It's female run/operated, which definitely helps when consulting over an enormous tattoo on one's back. Like most "un-typical" tattoo-ists, I was mainly concerned with it coming across as unfeminine/manish. Laura, my artist, took care of my concerns and went through numerous sketches to come to terms with my vision. She was supervised by Justina, and the entire process took under 3 hours.
