Went in, quoted $180 for 6 letter word no bigger than a double A battery in total! Bahahaha...must be charging top dollar because of their location, could be no other reason! I had some ink done at another shop, much bigger than what I wanted this time, took less than an hour cost me $120, this tattoo would've taken a good artist about 20 minutes max....not saying the artists aren't any good, but the prices are an absolute joke, their website actually backs up my claim...will be getting my tattoo done but not at rip off prices! I got my first tattoo ever here, and I'm really glad I came across Vic Market Tattoo when doing research on tattoo shops/artists in Melbourne. I couldn't have wished for a better first experience! Chris made me feel at ease by being calm and explaining everything to me. The shop was clean and the other tattoo artists are kind. Chris did an amazing job! It was even better than the idea I had in my head, which says a lot seeing that I wouldn't have chosen something without it being perfect already ;-) The tattoo healed up quickly and nicely and I'm still flabbergasted and excited by the whole experience and the work Chris did. I love this place! Wade Johnston popped my tattoo cherry here. Professional, clean and loads of savage art to look at. The little blonde chick at the front made my experience fun and there seemed to be a chilled vibe in store. Would highly recommend Vic Market Tattoo to anyone looking for their first or next tattoo. So my father attended the shop to ask about a small tattoo of my brothers name, consisting of 4 small Letters. He was quoted $120 as the minimum charge, which was fine. The tattooist then began asking him questions about his older tattoo's, which were done many years ago by a well known Melbourne Artist, Dickie Reynolds. The guy asking the questions seemed nice and very interested in the old tattoos. But when my father wanted to set an appointment, the tattooist refused to take an appointment and refused to tattoo him, because according to him, "only certain kinds of people" got tattoo's from Dickie Reynolds, becasue tattooing wasn't popular, and those people were not welcome for tattoos in his shop.So I don't know what the guys art was like, we never got further than the front door before my Father was highly offended, directly insulted and the receipt of direct prejudice and discriminatory treatment based solely on the tattoo's which adorn his body.Why ask questions about Tattoos if you are not going to like the answer? I had my first tattoos done by this crew, and I have to say they were amazing. The guy that did my back tattoos drew everything free hand and was actually very helpful and told me that some fonts will turn out to be shit in a couple years time! he drew an amazing lions head for my back and drew his own font my my writing down my spine! This sounds a bit odd, but I took my mum to get a tattoo for her birthday this year. Since she reached her fifties she's discovered her youth again, and is determined to do a few crazy things she never did the first time around. Mum wanted a dragonfly tattooed on her shoulder (apparently insects are all the rage in the menopausal crowd) and had already picked out a design. A well-inked friend recommended we go Vic Market Tattoo. Given we wanted to go on a Saturday, I had to book a few weeks in advance as it's their busiest day. When we arrived for the appointment they were running a bit behind schedule, so we hung out in the 1950's diner style front and flicked through the design books, which proved funnier than you'd expect.The girl who did my mum's ink was lovely - she kept mum chatting to distract her from the pain, and made some good suggestions around changing the colour of the design to make it 'pop' more. I'm not a wimp but I was a little dubious about Vic Market Tattoos. It's not exactly the ultra clean-looking north-side tattoo parlour we've come to expect on the north side. This shop has been here a while and from the front looks as if it specialises in home-style tatts for bikers. Funnily enough that's kind of what I was after. I also wanted to get my tatt done in my hood and it's the closest shop to my house. So I booked in a small job on my forearm - really basic lettering - and was told to just to bring the printed words in when I came for the appointment a couple weeks later. The dude I got wasn't particularly interested in my tatt. I don't care that much about that stuff - I expect they often aren't real interested in tatts they haven't designed - but he took a lot of care in getting it right. The lettering did have to be altered, so it would have been nice if they'd done that previously and I'd had time to think it through (especially as it's no cheaper than other places I've been to where I've had a consultation) but the end product turned out great. I do stress that I was looking for something a bit rough looking though, so it would have been hard to fuck up, although some of the lettering is fine and that was done well too. All in all, I'd go back for small tatts but probably not for a big job. Read Less
