I got my first tattoo done a little over a week ago here at St Kilda Ink, and honestly I couldn't be more happy with the overall experience. From the start, the communication was amazing, and the beginning process of having an artist book my tattoo in was great. The shop gives off an awesome vibe and the artists in there are awesome. Dan was great at making sure I was happy with the design and placement, and making sure I was comfortable. He was an all-round great bloke, I highly recommend him! totally disappointed to be honest ..... i was recommended to this place for my calf tattoo.... payed the deposit... it took the artist 2 weeks to draw the design.... i worked myself up for the few hours in the chair.... i hadn't seen the design till the night before... it wasn't exactly what i wanted just a few small changes.... changes that could have been worked out there on the spot..... my appointment was cancelled he said he needed to re draw the image and that he would be in contact with me..... i rung 2 weeks later and left a message for him to call me back..... nothing!! no image!! no call back!! no money given back!! zip zero interest!! Could not say a bad thing about this joint. Constantly maintaining a high standard of designs, amazing looking studio, so clean and hygienic plus a great friendly crew to discuss your designs with and easily the best artists in Melbourne! I had an artist by the name of Warren. What I wanted was very small and insanely detailed, went to a few other tattoo studios and no one had the confidence or the time to take this challenge on until I got to St Kilda Ink. 3 hours of chair t...ime but well worth it! Im so stoked with the result and amazed at the skills of Warren. Not only were the other artists at work creating amazing designs but also took time out of their day to come over and have a chat, they were legitimately interested and so welcoming. I can't claim to have any myself but I have accompanied a number of friends to St Kilda Ink to watch them as they writhed and squirmed in pain while having themselves permanently scarred by the ink from a needle. Okay, so that was a bit dramatic. In fact, all the friends that I have accompanied to St Kilda Ink have said quite the opposite. The gentle touch from the female artists at this tattoo parlour makes the experience really quite tolerable. So I'm told. As I sat on the stool watching in amazement the steady hand of one particular artist, I was quite taken by her talent. I've never been one to frequent tattoo parlours but St Kilda Ink, with its glamorous black and white interior complete with ornate mirrors, plasma screens and clean white tiles, certainly alters the perception I had of such establishments. The friendly nature of the staff make every consultation easy and, even as a bystander, I felt very welcome within the venue. Specials are always on offer, especially as the business is new, but tattoos are generally priced at about $160 per hour. Once my friend's artwork (on her ribcage may I add...ouch!) was complete, I was astonished at the intricate detail of the image. With four different artists on staff you have a choice of four distinctly different styles, specifically they have artists who specialise in traditional Asian influenced artwork, another artist who really loves a tribal influence and even a staff member who has studied fine arts.With their shop facing the street you can often see customers of St Kilda Ink undergoing their artistic transformation as you are wandering by. A little daunting for the people being tattooed, but fantastic for the general public!
