Unfortunately I had quite a negative experience at Wolf and Wren. A few months ago I saw a new artist had joined W&W and checked out her work on social media. I booked a consult and told her what I wanted and showed her a reference piece of her own via her Instagram account. At this point I regret moving forward, as I sensed some hesitation in her voice. However, I went ahead and paid a deposit and booked for what I was told would be a 3-3.5hr session. My tattoo appointment lasted about 2.5 hrs. And of course, a fresh tattoo looks pretty good...and I WAS happy, but then once it healed, many inconsistent lines presented themselves along with some minor blowouts (but several of them). I contacted the shop and attached some images showing the areas of concern. I was encouraged to book in to see her for a touch-up. I ended up cancelling the appointment as I was not at all confident it could be 'fixed'. I just had a gut feeling it was not a good idea - and that it would be terribly awkward. I again, was told that I could see another tattooist there, but the person they suggested, I wasn't a fan of the work. I ended up seeing another tattooist elsewhere who had to redo the entire tattoo in order to 'fix' the blowouts and the many areas of inconsistent line work. I feel the artist's work is good - but what I had requested was not an area of strength and I wish that would have been communicated with honesty at the consult. It was a disappointing experience especially after reading so many amazing reviews. I do acknowledge that the shop offered to touch-up my tattoo free of charge and wanted to keep me happy. but in the end this shop was not the best choice for me. Read Less

Had the most exceptional time at Wolf and Wren-- such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The moment you walk in you feel comfortable-- an asset in a tattoo parlour considering it's quite a vulnerable spot to be in! There's nothing to say about my visit that isn't totally positive. Michael on the front desk made me feel really welcome every time we interacted, and Harry was always pleasant and explained everything to me in a way that I understood easily. From idea conception to tattoo execution I had three visits and every one of them was a comfortable and exciting experience. I am thrilled with my finished piece and I'll be back again soon! This is not your run of the mill Tattoo studio, on entry you're greeted by Michael, who cannot help you enough and immediately puts anyone at ease. His energy and positivity really will make anyone comfortable. I was fortunate to have work done by Heath, absolute champion with huge attention to detail and is super passionate about your finished piece. I can assure anyone, these guys take the time to listen to you, ask questions about what you want to achieve and then allocate you to the artist best suited to your desired outcome. Right from walking in both Michael and Heath were super accomodating, I was a little bit underprepared (being my first tattoo I didn't really know how it worked) but Heath managed to work with me around that and accomodate all my ideas into my design. Everyone was super friendly and made both my mum and I feel super super comfortable, so comfortable she ended up getting a spontaneous tattoo! Good clean atmosphere. Friendly front of house staff - Michael is obviously very passionate about his job which is a nice way to be greeted. I was originally told that consults couldn't be booked so walked in for a consult only to be told I had to book in and come back. Came back a week later and was recommended working with Heath. Had a chat with him about getting a ships wheel, something really important to me. I showed some designs I had been thinking about and was told th...at in order to get a drawing I would need to book a time in for a tattoo and pay a non-refundable deposit of $100. I felt quite positive about this all as Heath told me he would set aside an hour to discuss designs and make sure it was exactly what I wanted. I came back on my booking with my 2 best friends very excited to get a ships wheel done, having thought about my designs over the week and a half. Heath showed me his design which was beautiful, but not close to what I had wanted. The only thing he was able to change was the size of the wheel. I kept stating different parts of the design that I would like altered, but he kept coming back to barriers to these changes - having never had a tattoo a lot of this was new to me, yet he wasn't able to offer different options for anything. Thinking about the design for a while I decided to change the location I had originally wanted (from my wrist to my lower calf). I felt happy with this decision but when I got the stencil on it was still not I wanted. I came back to Heath with this and he became quite short with me and basically didn't make me feel at all okay with my decision to not get something tattooed on me that I wasn't 100% happy with. I walked away in tears, disappointed that I was left feeling that way and without the design I was so excited to have, but overall relieved that I was strong enough to walk away. I would wholeheartedly recommend Wolf & Wren for your tattoo needs, first time or otherwise. The entire process from the initial messaging enquiry with Michael through to the consultation and tattoo application with Josh was easy, welcoming and professional. Josh was very accomodating and reassuring given it was my first tattoo and on his brief test inking of my skin laughed at my somewhat disappointed 'Oh' as I realised it didn't hurt as much as I'd imagined! Got my first tattoo done at Wolf & Wren a few months ago. I was obviously very nervous at first, but I have been to many dentist appointments that were way more scary than this - and I'm not even scared of dentists. Everyone made me feel comfortable, on Facebook, in the shop... The whole process was easy, smooth, everyone was very professional, very welcoming and reassuring. After care is just as good. I got tattooed by Josh and he's an absolute gun, he showed he cared from the moment I met him, showed interest and researched about my tattoo just because he wanted to, and he's a very talented and very friendly artist. The team here are so chill and friendly, they really eliminate the off-putting vibe of a lot of tattoo shops where entering can feel quite confronting. Empire Tattoo has just been renamed Wolf & Wren Tattoo Collective, which seems to suit their style more!As with a lot of people these days, I chose this place because I loved the work of one of the artists (Jaya), even though it's a long way from home!  I think this place has cornered the 'hipster' market due to the high quality of tattoo artists, the general ambiance of the place, and great social media marketing.  The Facebook and Instagram pages are all up to date, and give all the information you need about every artist.I had made an appointment in August to talk about the design I wanted (a weaving shuttle!).  I had the tattoo last night, and have already recommended them to everyone!  Jaya did an amazing job at translating my image into his awesome 'etched' style, and was very good at putting me at ease for my first non-cosmetic tattoo.  Everyone was very friendly and welcoming.  You can either get your own design adapted, or use one of the artists' artworks.The most important thing about getting a tattoo is making sure the artist suits your style - Wolf & Wren have artist of all different styles, so you're sure to find one you like! Empire Tattoo is a very clean and proffessional looking tattoo place, something of a boutique tattoo parlour. The artists here have their own unique style in which they work, and if you are looking for something outside that genre it is perhaps not the best place to go. As they have quite a strong client base, they are likely to reccommend a different tattoo studio for such pieces, but are generally very hepful in providing advice in that regard and reccommending a suitable artist. Their work in general is quite strong and mechanistic, with elements of the fantastic. They often have an eeirie or sppoky element to them. On the whole their work work seems very proficient and well executed. Read Less
